TruColor
I started this thread partly due to the fact that we've been discussing MLB commemorative logos in a couple of other threads, and this leads me into an idea I've had.I am going to start re-coloring logos and posting them here - both for Chris's use, and for general discussion.Just to sum up - I take Illustrator/vector logos, set them to use the RGB color mode, and then convert the swatches to the sRGB color space. What this does is to make the colors more accurately reflect on screen the colors as they would look if you printed them using actual spot colors (i.e., using Pantone inks).Illustrator (and Photoshop) convert Pantone colors to RGB from whatever source the swatch library uses - sometimes from CMYK, or from CIE-L*ab. Converting from Lab values are much more accurate, but a lot of older swatch libraries use the horrific CMYK conversion.Pantone measures their colors for RGB and provides these values for most of their color libraries (PMS, Goe, Textiles, etc.); I store all of this information in a relational database, and can use it to re-color Illustrator graphics.I haven't been through my entire collection of MLB graphics to find all of the MLB commemorative logos that I have, but I have started with a few of them, and will be adding to this thread as I get the time.If your monitor is accurately calibrated, these GIF files should look extremely close to a printed version (spot colors).Boston Red Sox - 1987 Fenway Park 75th Anniversary logo:Boston Red Sox - 2002 Fenway Park 90th Anniversary logo:...more to come.
