So with the Islanders visiting Vancouver on their 6-game preseason Western roadtrip, including 2 in Saskatoon and one in Kansas City, I figured I'd do the honors of starting the 2009-10 NHL season thread.

We still have the looming Coyotes battle, new faces in new places, and we're just a couple of weeks away from opening faceoff.

Good luck to all your respective squadrons...

I think the Thrashers will make the playoffs. Probably as a 7 or 8. Then get slaughtered by the Pens or Bruins.

I want Matt booted because he's spells things funny. The spelling of the word "color" is a pretty black and white issue and he still manages to come out wrong on it.

Maz, I'm offering you a challenge:

Which ever team, the Caps or Pens, advances furthest this season, the loser of this competitive agreement has to show their support for their opponents team until the first game of the 2010/2011 regular season in their signature.

If both teams fail to advance to the playoffs, the winner will be determined based on the following:

- total points accumulated in standings. If tied, then:
- number of regulation victories (no shootout). If tied, then:
- head-to-head record against each other. If tied, then:
- goals difference between the four meetings.

This show of support for the rival team can be a moderately sized image or text file, but must be team or player(s) related and not completely inappropriate.

Do you accept?

I would offer up the idea that the supporter for the further-advancing team shall be the one to come up with the sig file for the loser.

But that's me.

Watching Rangers preseason hockey, just noticed they got new graphics. It's an upgrade! The old ones were alright, but the new ones are definitely better.

See, that would be too simple. What I'm aiming for in this contest is to keep track of your favorite team throughout the entire season as it makes things more interesting. Besides, with the extra stipulations, it makes the victory more enjoyable.

Just so you know, whoever wins the Coyotes will likely keep them in Phoenix for one last season before moving them (Balsille's already said they'd play in Hamilton for 2010-11)...

I prefer the ones they had the last few years to be quite honest. These also give me a Sunday Night Football from NBC vibe--mostly because of the font used...

The score bug is nicer though:

Dion Phaneuf lights up Kyle Okposo:

Watch Morency jump off the bench to protect his teammate...

He had to be taken off on a stretcher. I don't think it was dirty though. Here's hoping he is OK, even if he is an Islander...
