10/10 but realistically the Rays probably won't stay in TB. They failed to sell out a playoff game last year, and their attendance is still awful.

How about no, and do some research.

I'm still working on Sketch up, and it might be a while. Ive changed some things up, too.

Dude, I've been a Rays fan since '98, and even I can admit that something needs to be done about the lack of attendance. Ultimately, a new ballpark isn't feasible unless the old one is attracting fans, which the Trop does not do. Also, other problems include the lack of support for the Rays Ballpark project, the poor economy, and the fact that 22 years are still left on the lease at the Trop. Ultimately, the most likely outcome seems to be the Rays filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to get out of that lease, and then moving out of Florida.

Your concept is really nice, however. I do have a soft spot for domed/retractable roof stadiums - they have character. Your whole plan seems to be very well-thought-out. Good job!

I didn't want this thread to go to this. BUT.

Alright, so lets go from the beginning. Tropicana field is built in a growing market, trying to attract a team. Thing is, this was the mid 80s, still trying to attract a team. They built it, hoping they could get anything. About 5 years later, Camden Yards was built. That started a new wave of stadiums. Since 1993, 20 new stadiums have opened. It missed the whole revolutionary stadium trend. The Location was in downtown St. Pete, which is 20-30 minutes from Tampa, if you know what you're doing. That was their first mistake, building a stadium that would host more than 80 games a season, that wouldn't be that special, and draw fans from all over. When the Rays first started playing, the stadium was already 10 years old. Compare that to the Diamondbacks, who built a new stadium post-1993. Then, the Rays had 10 consecutive seasons with less than 70 wins. That crippled the team's fan base. There are a lot of kids I know who aren't into baseball "Because the home team sucked for 10 years." Unlike, the Diamondbacks and Marlins who won World Series very early in their history. Also take into account that Florida is full of people moving down here from up north. They hold onto their teams. It takes a generation to build a true franchise. The kids who have had the Rays for a majority of their lives. Once they grow up, they will do the same. The top 10 teams attendance wise are ones that have been there since the 60s(TEX, SF, LA, ANA, MIN), or longer.(BOS, NYY, StL, CHC, PHI). The newest team in the top 15 is the Rockies, who has a beautiful ballpark, and made the playoffs in their third season. As far as the Marlins, it's basically the same thing. A stadium built before that period, and northerners keeping with their team.

The Trop has had renovations, and the atmosphere and experience has improved vastly under an owner who cares. But to some people, the Trop looks like a warehouse, who went, but that was in 2004 or something.

It's a unique and sad history, but it's true. That's why I made this. This location would agree to the St. Petersburg lease, and be closer to two larger cities with a lot of people. It would be in the middle of a triangle of cities, rather than on the point of one. A new stadium would draw fans. People who love the Rays, people who want to see a baseball game, and people who want to compare it to Tropicana. Add that to a team that is over .500, and that is it.

Wow, this is sick. I love that logo, I can't wait to see what you come with in Google sketchup. I just downloaded it trying to sorta mess around in building a stadium. That is some confusing :censored: right there. Good work though

Oh my god, i love your sig.

But the program got easier the more you played with it. I really only use 4 tools. but I've already have 3/4th of a stadium. I love that guidelines keep you lines up most of the time.

First of all, I completely agree that his sig is awesome. And second, how do you rotate your guidelines in Inkscape? The easiest way I've found is to double click and type in the angle you want it at...which can take a while to get it exact.

3D model looks great, hell of a lot better than anything I've ever tried to do in SketchUp.

After seeing your sketchup model, I think you're on the right track, but it looks like the stadium that you made could only hold about 22,000. You'd need to hold at least 40,000 when it comes to playoff time. Also, I might have missed it but what is that glass thing on the third base side above the lower bowl? Do you have a picture of the first base side?

Ah, that's what I was afraid of. I had no idea realistically how much it would hold. I know what I can do. Ill make the upperdeck go higher, having a steeper face, because I have some extra room I can go.

The glass is suppose to be a rotunda area. There is one at the Trop, which is the main entrance. I couldn't get it in sketch up, but I imagine steps going up to it, and that is where the main entrance would be.

I'm gonna add more too this, like tunnels to the decks. I'll shw the first base line then.

So so so so glad you did this. Looks much better, right? A couple things you may want to consider that will add some realism:

-Click 'view', and check 'shadows'.

-Click 'view', 'edge style', and uncheck 'edges'. It will get rid of all the black lines everywhere, and the shadows will help pronounce your lines and add a hint of realism.

Hiding the guides might help as well, at least for the aerial shots.

Love what you've done, keep it up!

Great looking Stadium Concept Mike.

The one thing I suggest the wall above the outfield seats, why not try and have that open kinda like Minute Maid or Safeco. I think it would make the park much more aesthetically pleasing to look at. Also it could solve your issue for capacity by essentially building up above the left field seats.

Here is an update. I made the upperdecks bigger, and just cleaned up the whole thing. The space under the right field deck is now where the scoreboard is, and behind it would be shops. I made it more baseball stadium like. I made a back stop!

I also made concourses connecting the inside to the under parts.

Wow, looks really cool. My only complaint is that it still feels kinda boxed-in. What I love so much about going to games at Wrigley is how open the stadium is, you get a great view of outside the stadium. I know it would be hard to do that with a retractable roof stadium, but I think Safeco field does a great job of making it work. Miller Park kinda-sorta as well
