    Logos associated with failure.

Flint's attempt at a theme park back in the 1980s. Autoworld opened on July 4, 1984, then closed six months later due to poor attendance. It was closed for good in 1994, then demolished in 1997.

Nice concept! The claw marks on the numbers remind me of the numbers on the old Port Huron Border Cats jerseys:

    Terrible commentators in sports

Jim Price: "Alright, gang, I spoke with The Great Al Kaline in Roseville yesterday about Verlander's Arsenal and The Art of Pitching. Wow, nice area." That sums up Jim Price's commentating. You could get hammered by the "Thiiiiiiiiirrrrrd" inning if you had a shot each time Price used one of his favorite lines. He was even worse as middle innings announcer. Jim Brandstatter: Okay commentator, horrible as announcer. He was lost last season. Awful move by Michigan. Dan Miller: Goes from mediocre homer announcer to shameless cheerleader ("STAND UP FORD FIELD!!!! STAND UP!!!!!"), depending on how the game is going. Big downgrade from Mark Champion.

Big League worthy Minor League looks/identities

The Flint Generals in the early 2000s had a great look.

Top 5 WORST Sports Teams Nicknames

Peoria Prancers (IHL)--With that logo, the team could have been called the Bucks, Stags or even Chargers. Logo kind of looks like something you would find on a lawnmower. Port Huron Beacons (UHL)--Was expecting the team to be called the Flags. Never cared for this nickname or the logo for that matter. Dayton Demonz (FHL)--Don't have very high expectations for the FHL, but spelling a plural word with a "z" at the end sounds like late 1990s ECW. Danbury Trashers (UHL) Port Huron North Americans (Major League Roller Hockey)--They didn't last too long and ended up moving to Flint midway through their only season. I didn't care for the name "Port Huron Fighting Falcons" at first. It grew on me, but I would still just drop the "Fighting" part of their nickname.

    2015-16 CHL uniform/logo thread

At first I thought it was inevitable, but now I doubt they go with Flint Tropics. IMS Hockey (team owners) wants a nickname that will be marketable for many years and something the community can rally behind. Flint Tropics would have an initial surge in apparel sales and media attention. But once that wears off, all you'll have left is a team with a joke nickname. Plus, while Tropics was popular in the name-the-team contest, a lot of the pro-Tropics votes were from outside of Flint. I'm not hearing too many hockey fans around the Flint area that like that name.My guess is they go with Flint Phoenix, though I would prefer Flint Arrows or Firebirds.

    Emptiest stadiums?

I've seen Tigers games in the last few years of Tiger Stadium that had about 12-16,000 in attendance. Also, I've been to a lot of Fighting Falcons games over the past few years that had about 400-500 at McMorran Arena (a 3400-seat arena for hockey).

    Memorable Games You Attended

2007 Motor City Bowl, Central Michigan vs. Purdue. Purdue was up 34-13 at the half, looked like it was over. CMU scored 28 points in the third and eventually tied the game at 48 late in the fourth. Purdue won on a last-second field goal, but it was still a thriller.

2014-2024: The next 10 years in sports

Detroit Lions: Continue to stumble along as an also-ran franchise. Make the playoffs now and then, but no Super Bowls. Detroit Tigers: Remain the top team in the AL Central for several more years, making it to 2 more World Series, winning once. Detroit Red Wings: Franchise continues descent to middle-of-pack team as rebuild/"We like this team, as is.." continues. No Stanley Cups, but the playoff streak continues. Detroit Pistons: Pistons get even worse the first few years as the rebuild continues, but they should be back on track by 2018. CMU Football: Dan Enos fired as coach as program continues to stumble. Port Huron: McMorran Arena is renovated, and Port Huron gets yet another hockey team, this time in the USHL. Arena football comes and goes. Saginaw Spirit: Win their first OHL championship. Pittsburgh Steelers: Two more Super Bowl appearances, winning once. Toronto Maple Leafs: Make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, but lose.

THE worst team ever - as a fan in your lifetime

Hmmm...I'll throw in a few minor league teams. Flint: 2008-09 Generals 22-47-7, dead last in the "IHL".Started the season with Peter South as coach...then brought in Bobby Reynolds as co-coach, who was given final say over the team. South got the message and left (can't blame him). The Perani Group (ownership) practically gave up and stopped paying the players, stopped paying bills...stopped paying everything it seemed.Players evicted from apartments midseason because, surprise, team owners didn't pay the rent.Forward Mike Alexiou sues owners due to being owed thousands and a lack of workman's compensation for the players.Attendance, which was already in decline, collapsed to 1661 per game, easily the worst average since the 1980s.The Perani Group dissolved after that season. The Generals returned for 2009-10, nearly folded midseason, but then made a surprise run to the Turner Cup Finals. Port Huron: 2010-11 Fighting Falcons 6-46-6, easily worst in the NAHLTeam arrived late in the summer after the Icehawks foldedNo expansion draft, ownership had to pay about $100,000 to play that season (league preferred them to start in 2011-12)Roster made up of overmatched players, mostly from CaliforniaA dirty hockey team that could fight, but could also get blown out nightly.Season started in September. First-ever win: November 7. Second-ever win: January 7.Average attendance: 682 per game, a drop of about 1,000 per game from the Icehawks. The Falcons made a coaching change around January and a few roster changes. They played a little better in the second half of the season, but not much. There actually was some talent on that roster, but nowhere near enough to be competitive. OTOH, the 2011-12 Falcons won their division and went to the finals. Saginaw: 1998-99 Gears Second name change and fourth ownership change since the team arrived in town in 1994.All the hype of bringing back the Gears nickname and recapturing the magic of the old IHL team.Still no ice-level seats, only the Loge and Mezzanine levels, leaving an empty ring around the rink.A weak lineup with no offense that stumbled out of the gate.20-28-7 on February 20th, but still with a shot at the playoffs. Then...Dr. Shukairy (who also owned the Flint Generals) conducted a fire sale and sold off any talent the team had and leaving the roster shorthanded.February 20th was the last victory of the season, as the Gears went 0-18-1 the rest of the way.Suprise! Another ownership change near the end of the season. That season, especially the nose-dive at the end, killed that franchise and the UHL completely in Saginaw. The Gears came back for 1999-2000, but lasted only 26 games before moving to Ohio in December.
  20. Joe Nathan was a "Tiger Killer" during his days in Minnesota. Much to Tigers fans' chagrin, he still is a "Tiger Killer".

    Most/Least successful Uni/Logo overhauls

The Pistons were the first team I thought of when I saw this thread. Back in the 1980s up to 1995-96, they had this simple, yet classic look: In 1996-97, the "Teal Era" began. New logo, new colors, new font, new jerseys. Downgrade, IMO. Good look for an expansion team at the time, but not for a franchise that had been around since 1941: Then in 2001-02, the Pistons went back to the red-white-blue color scheme and an updated version of the Bad Boys look. Modern, but with a nod to the past. Upgrade, IMO: Didn't really hate the "horsepower" logo--I bought a shirt with that logo on it when I was in high school. I just thought the Bad Boys uniforms (and now the current set) were much better.

    Minor League Hockey Moves 2014-15

I'll take it. Port Huron would be on an island with Brampton in the CHL, but I'd rather have that than, say, a Federal Hockey League team. Rumor has it that the city is talking to the USHL about an expansion franchise, but I'll believe that when I see it.
