    2010-11 NBA Season

Clips on the good end of garbage time for the first win. Of course it's against an expansion team so it's not earth-shattering, but still good news. These kids'll do well without B-Dog doggin' it like a dog.

The team with the best pitching shut down everyone else. Easy.

Think of those Marlins teams that beat the Giants in the first round years ago...now the Giants have Renteria as the Series MVP, and the NLCS MVP was Ross, whom the Marlins waived. Funny how these things happen.

You allowed Renteria to hit the World Series winning home run, why not this, too?

It was incredible watching this team. I used to lament that the pitchers deserved better with how good they were, but got so little offense to back it up. Matt Cain has a losing record because he'd rarely get more than 3 runs. After almost making the playoffs last year, the GM had to do something immediately so that all that youth wouldn't go to waste. It was just enough. I thought Bruce Bochy was crazy juggling the lineup around everyday, with different guys starting and sitting. Now I know I know nothing and he was right all along. As much as I love all those players I have to give a large chunk of admiration to Bochy for working with those guys and making the right moves. This wasn't a team where you could just stick any guy in there and the players would have taken care of themselves. He knows how to handle the best pitching staff in the world, and the best team in the sport. From when he took the Padres to the WS and got swept, you can tell that he really learned a lot and used all those years intelligently.

Bumgarner. When he first got called up, it was on rather short notice against the Red Sox, and people were lamenting how they were throwing a rookie against that vaunted lineup. Well now he has haunted this game, baby.

The mighty logo is one of the best in hockey, and people should stop being butthurt over the team being named after a movie.

Pat Burrell certainly earned a trip to the bench. There was a great chance in the first inning, and he struck out. And then struck out every other at bat. Schierholtz is always his defensive replacement anyway, and has been hitting, too.

    Expanding baseball playoffs?

You gotta get Texas out of the West, especially since Vegas is in the Pacific Time Zone.

Amazing. This was a great game. I'm glad Mota finally got a chance to pitch. Earlier in the playoffs I figured that the only way he'd get in is if the Giants were winning a blowout, and here it is. Renteria's been remarkable defensively lately, and now he gets a home run. This is so awesome.

Teemu Selanne's presence alone gives the team a history worth honoring.

It's definitely better than the current home jersey. I don't know how people are seeing the shoulder but if it is indeed Mighty, than this is a big step up.

I was in panic mode after the first inning. After all that's been said about the opposing lineup, and Lincecum apparently being in another galaxy while botching that rundown, I wasn't feeling good. But man, it's like every time a pitcher gets built up like he's invincible the Giants beat him. I'm not happy with that 9th, though.

It was a joke because I said basketball in LA returns tonight, when the Lakers already played yesterday. It's a Clipper thing.

Sure thing, cowboy. And like a bullet going over a midget's head at high noon, you missed the point. The Lakers' season opener was yesterday, and the Clippers open tonight. Even without getting the joke I don't know why you needed to quote me.

Basketball finally returns to Los Angeles tonight! It's been a long time, so it'll be nice to have Staples Center rocking again.

Brian Wilson is very entertaining, and very intelligent.

What an amazing game. This is the way it's been all season long, tension until the last moment. I'm so proud of Sanchez getting that leadoff hit which led to tying the game. It's always been the case with him that he can be either all over the place, or near-impossible to hit, so I guess that bad side was going to come out sooner or later. I never would have guessed that four straight lefties would have come out of the bullpen, and that three starters would pitch. That was masterful work by Bochy. And know everyone knows the greatness of Brian Wilson. Of course he had to let two guys get on to build the suspense. It's always happened that way; there's no happy medium with this team. It's funny seeing the improvements in the team from last season. Last year it was great pitching that was let down by an offense that often didn't show up. So it went from a below-average offense to an average offense, which is a perfect recipe for the kind of nerve-racking games that we get, but now this team is capable of coming from behind and winning. That it's being done by so-called castoffs makes it even sweeter, and that all four starters, the closer and the catcher were drafted by the team. Maybe this Sabean knows what he's doing, after all.

The pain still lingers, but it was something I had to do. I broke up with my girlfriend last night. We had been going for out a few months, and always enjoyed watching baseball together, no matter who was playing. We would listen to the dulcet tones of Vin Scully calling the Dodgers lose, and delve into the occasional Angel game one channel up. She'd count the days down with me to when a Giants game would be nationally televised, so I could be happy. Oddly, she never mentioned which team she grew up rooting for, she always just pulled for my team like a good, submissive woman. Then, the unthinkable happened. She called me up yesterday, said "You know what, I think I'm a Braves fan." I said, "You know what, I don't think this is going to work out." Sorry, babe. C'mon, Sanchez!

    2010-11 NHL Season Thread

These are dark days for the Ducks, so I will take the time to reflect on days past. It is customary for a team that just won a championship to be put on the cover of Sports Illustrated, so when Pronger and the boys came through, I waited with bated breath to see what the cover would look like. Selanne? Getzlaf? Even better. Now, as you can see, there's a little blurb about the Mets and their GM there (which of course had a dynasty of their own), but the focus is obviously on the Stanley Cup champs. See the fine print in the upper left? It says "Quack, quack!" What a delightful way of acknowledging the end to another great NHL season. Thank you, SI, and God bless.

getting around the "team cleat" color rule

Hey, men can get breast cancer, too. Not that they're really raising awareness for that, though.

    Unpopular Opinions

No, sir, I don't like it. It just confused me as a kid because it looked like the C was being crossed out, and I couldn't tell with what. Why do you cross out your own insignia? Now I know that they are tomahawks, but it still looks pretty bad. Crossing out the C is a fundamental error to me. The tomahawks should be supporting it, not covering it. Putting them in the back says, "Yeah, well if you try to cross Chicago, you'll have us tomahawks to worry about!" They would be backing up the city, not blotting it out.
