I think it's just laziness with the name. They must've figured out that it rhymed, and then called it a day. It's just unfortunate that the Sand Gnats, who had a great identity, packed up and left and took off with it. Then again, a MiLB team would never leave a city and have a Browns-like deal with their logos/colors/name.
Well, the name isn't getting much love right now here in Savannah. Who knows, it might just need some time with people. On the other hand, I think it's an absolutely terrible name. The team is going to be the butt of many jokes regarding certain body parts…
This could be very unpopular-I hate how people use gold/yellow interchangably. For example the Packers, Steelers, Penguins, Lakers, Pirates, A's, among other teams wear yellow, not gold. Notre Dame, the Naval Academy, West Point, the Saints, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Pitt, Vanderbilt, and others wear gold.
Agreed...buuut that South Carolina one doesn't fall in the good category at all for me. Gross camo pants...yuck.Those grey Carolina ones were TERRIBLE.
I am from Georgia, but root for no in-state teams. I absolutely cannot stand UGA because of the fact that my hometown is full of obnoxious fans that have no connections to the University other than the fact that they live in the state, and my one trip to Sanford Stadium was quite bad. Also, I have no connections whatsoever to GA Tech, Southern, or any other school in the state. I don't root for Atlanta teams simply because I despise the city of Atlanta and avoid it like the plague.
The Trop is a much better place for a game than the horrid Georgia Dome or Oakland Coliseum. Tropicana Field's quirks make it bearable. The Trop is like an ugly dog, it's so ugly that it's cute. Having been there multiple times for Rays games, it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
