    New Aer Lingus logo, livery

Aer Lingus has unveiled a new logo and livery. Here's the prerequisite breakdown graphic:
  2. The USL has announced a new structure, and unveiled branding for its tiers. Updated corporate logo: Championship (top-level league): League 1 (second-tier): League 2 (third-tier):

    MLS Kits 2019

FootballShirtCulture has more NYCFC photos: It's just kinda...meh. I really don't like the way they handled the racing stripe with the sponsor, but there aren't a lot of examples of teams that've done that well. One thing I LOVE is the mosaic pigeon jocktag:

    NBA Changes 2018-19

The Nets' 2K league team unveiled their logo, which to the best of my knowledge, is the first in franchise history to include an actual net:

    New Bank of America logo

https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/banking/article221783230.html NEW: OLD: I think it's a good evolution - having everything line up on the flag fixes an issue that bugs me every time I see it. I'm hoping they'll have a better solution for applications on solid red or blue backgrounds:

The Nets put five stickers down on their everyday court and now have a City Edition court:

    Football and CTE

Which is exactly the mechanism by which "toughness" culture manifests and perpetuates itself. As @Gothamite rightly points out, the culture is the hard part to break if we really want to start to fix football. Even if the league institutes new rules and teaching principles, and introduces new safety technology, those changes can only go so far if the atmosphere around the sport is not encouraging its participants to take care of themselves and those around them, in service of some bull :censored: macho ideal. And this isn't just about brain injuries - this "rub dirt on it and get back out there" attitude contributes to the deaths of players like Jordan McNair at Maryland, among too many others.

    Football and CTE

On the other, more hopeful side of the journalistic spectrum, this Ringer piece does a nice job of detailing efforts to educate the next generation of sportscasters about how to better communicate possible brain injuries: https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2018/11/8/18075776/concussions-tv-broadcast-education. It's great that the Concussion Legacy Foundation has identified the role broadcasters play in educating the public about this topic, and not just identifying symptoms and dangerous plays, but also breaking down the toxic culture of "toughness" that enables unhealthy behavior across all sports, not just the NFL.

    NBA Changes 2018-19

From the article: The Ben Franklin logo, which I normally like, doesn't really fit here and it's kind of throwing the whole thing off for me. And I'm not sure how the white lettering is going to read from a distance. Other than that, it's a nice design. I'm a sucker for red-white-blue trim.

    Cost/Benefit of a Rebrand

Thought this was a very informative piece from Vox about the cost and thought that goes into a corporate name change and rebrand. https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2018/10/25/18013642/dunkin-donuts-rebranding-cost My current company rebranded five years ago and is still working old graphics and outdated signage out of its system, and I think this piece does a good job of capturing why that happens and how it often manifests itself.

    NBA Changes 2018-19

The Nets' Biggie editions are being unveiled on Thursday at...JFK airport, that famous site of so many great Notorious B.I.G. moments.

    Cost/Benefit of a Rebrand

Sports franchises also have the massive benefit of a season/offseason cycle to handle the logistics of implementing a branding change. They can execute changes to the signage and other physical elements when their venue isn't hosting events as regularly. Teams turn over their marketing campaigns every season anyway, so their collateral has a finite shelf-life whether there's a change or not. Same goes, to differing extents, for uniforms, tickets, and other pieces.

    NBA Changes 2018-19

The first thing that came to mind is a Notorious B.I.G. tribute with a Coogi sweater pattern?

NBA G-League Still Needs to Expand

Looks like the Blazers might be the last ones standing:

    NBA Changes 2018-19

If this comes to pass, it makes me wonder if there would have been a different outcome to the Memphis Grizzlies/Express proposal if it was being decided today. (background: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/basketball/nba-rejects-memphis-express-moniker-1.278813)

Syracuse Chiefs rebrand as Syracuse Mets

Besides the awful logo (easily a contender for the worst in AAA and possibly all of the minors), this reaction from a local columnist and sports-talk host perfectly captures the massive downside of this team ditching its local identity and taking on the parent club's identity:

Syracuse Chiefs rebrand as Syracuse Mets

I was hoping they'd at least somewhat redeem this unfortunate idea of a name change with a good logo, but they totally Metsed this one up.

    Austin FC

The sadly-soon-to-be-former Columbus Crew have unveiled their crest:
  20. Putting aside the, uh, merits, of this particular design, I do very much like that the Lakers seem to be taking the city edition gimmick and turning it into their own new tradition to honor past greats. I'm curious to see how they keep it going and represent guys like Kareem, Shaq, Jerry West, etc. visually in the future. And I'd like to see how other teams can use their city editions as more than just a cash grab, to do something unique to spotlight local or team history for a season.

    Fun With Flags!!!!

If you're a vexillophile and an NBA fan, New Era's new Tip Off collection is for you: https://www.lids.com/search/nba tip off 59fifty Some of these turned out pretty well! Not sure how they decided whether to use city or state flags, I would've liked to see how some of the California teams in particular would've turned out with their city flags.

    College athletics identity changes 2018-19

That's a shame. I've always felt like there was a strong marketing/recruiting opportunity for the Blackbirds in dropping or de-emphasizing the LIU and positioning themselves as just Brooklyn.

    NBA Changes 2018-19

The Nets have downgraded their baseline, getting rid of the nice subway mosaic in favor of a generic blocky, athletic typeface that isn't currently part of their identity: I liked the mosaic a lot, and I wish they had done more with it.
  24. I love the art deco look - perfect for Miami. The sun alternate on its own looks like a for-profit scam university logo or for-profit scam rehab center, so perfect for Florida, I guess? The name doesn't bother me too much; at this point, it's just 21st Century MLS. I'm curious to see how they'll abbreviate it. ICF Miami?

    Papa John(')s new logo

Weird that they kept the slogan so prominent, or that they even kept it at all, if they're trying to wipe away any trace of their founder.
