  1. MLB changes 2018?

MLB threads always lead to San Diego or Cleveland...
  2. How much can you "update" a classic?

The "Birds on the Bat" have changed in size over time, but now I think they are too big.
  3. NBA Changes 2017-18

I feel that someday we will look back and say, “Remember the 2017-18 NBA uniforms? Those were some crazy times.” I’m willing to bet these uniforms are legit, and they are another testament to how poorly Nike has outfitted the NBA this season.
  4. MLB changes 2018?

I don't hate it. I like the inclusion of a red and blue flag to represent each league's pennant.
  5. MLB changes 2018?

I would like to believe this, but if the last year has told us anything, nothing is sacred in sports uniforms anymore. That is only going to become worse. I wouldn’t be surprised if UA or Nike challenge New Era’s position.
  6. MLB changes 2018?

The only reference to New Era's contract with MLB, that I could find, said their deal expires after 2019.
  7. MLB changes 2018?

I guess the Marlins are not commemorating their 25th anniversary then.
  8. MLB changes 2018?

FWIW, Major League Baseball refers to the team that finishes atop each division as the division champion. With that said, I share your opinion Gothamite, but I also think that the importance of a division championship is subjective to each franchise/fan base. I think you see that across MLB stadiums where some teams show credit to every team honor won while others stick to pennants and/or world championships only.
  9. MLB changes 2018?

I finally went into Lids today and checked out the new BP caps for myself. The plastic 3-D like logos look worse than I had anticipated. The material the cap is made of reminds me of a swimsuit. Disappointing for sure since New Era has been the standard for fitted caps, but this change will save me money as I will not be purchasing anything from this model set.
  10. Arena Rafters & Banners

I don't mind this so much. In my mind, there were two eras of Kobe, with and without Shaq. Kobe was very accomplished during both, so acknowledging this by retiring 8 and 24 is fine with me. For the record, I wish he had stuck with 8 only because it was a number he could have made synonymous with his name.
  11. MLB changes 2018?

I think it is still early. A lot of uniform changes get announced at team fan functions and a lot of those won’t take place until after the new year.
  12. NBA Changes 2017-18

With splits like that, isn’t every uniform an alternate? I don’t follow the NBA closely, so can anyone who does provide some insight into how all of the different uniforms are being perceived on telecasts and by fans in general outside this community?
  13. MLB changes 2018?

Hahaha. I won't argue with you, and it might be an age thing Gothamite. I vividly remember getting into hats around 1999/2000 and walking into HatWorld to a wall of red Yankee hats. In the Midwest, where I am from, Limp Bizkit was the people's choice around that time so I'm always reminded of Fred. Thankfully I can say I never owned a red Yankees hat. May have considered it though...
  14. MLB changes 2018?

I get your points, but it doesn't take away from the fact that MLB is not resonating with a younger crowd. You can disagree with or dismiss their attempts to draw new spectators in, but they have to be trying something. I am not on the inside at MLB, but I think it makes sense that having UA as your uniform supplier would pay more dividends from a marketability standpoint than Majestic would. For this reason, I am willing to bet that the bidding for the next cap contract will be intense between New Era, Nike, UA, and maybe Adidas when it comes up again. The dam has been broken in baseball. Manufacturer's logos are here to stay. I'm a teacher and I've seen that brand loyalty exists with kids. The truth is Nike, UA, and Adidas can offer a doorway to more customers than the traditional suppliers.

You can probably thank (blame?) this guy:
  16. MLB changes 2018?

Technically your friend was not wrong then. Red is in the Yankees logo. I can imagine it looking awful though. I can understand people not liking the Rockies BP cap (I like it), but I think the reasons behind it are obvious. First, money. I think it will be a very popular hat. It’s why there are already fashion cap versions of it. Second, and maybe more importantly, the Colorado flag has a coolness factor to it. This will not only help create revenue but may attract attention to MLB from people who may overlook it otherwise. Attracting new and younger fans has been a priority of MLB for the last few years. I think attracting the younger fan may help explain why Under Armor has been given the blessing of MLB to put their logo on the uniform. UA is currently a trendy sports brand.
  17. MLB changes 2018?

The Yankees road cap might be the worst, and it would be so easy to make look good. Gray crown Navy bill Navy NY Navy squatchee
  18. MLB changes 2018?

    25 years = Silver Anniversary
  19. MLB changes 2018?

It is very weird to me that the Twins, Cubs, Marlins, Brewers, and Nats are using their home hat models. I won't be buying the Orioles hat, but I am so jealous of it. I was really hoping for a Cardinals "slugger bird" hat.
  20. MLB changes 2018?

I think pinstripes are harder to imagine and I thought the Japan uniforms might offer a realistic preview. Either way, it looks terrible.
  21. MLB changes 2018?

I was reading an article on Shohei Otani this morning, and I think it provided a glimpse of what the UA takeover may look like. WARNING! THIS MAY BE UPSETTING!
  22. MLB changes 2018?

Sadly, we may see a memorial patch for Roy Halladay next season. He died today in a plane crash off the coast of Florida. RIP
  23. MLB changes 2018?

The success or failure of a rebuild very much depends on who is leading it. Oakland has made the playoffs many times despite their financial limitations, and San Diego's GM was suspended last season for shady communication practices with other teams. Not everyone is going to be a winner. I think it's worth noting that the last 3 champions (Royals, Cubs, and Astros) each won after tearing down and building their farm system up.
  24. MLB changes 2018?

I disagree with this. If the new ownership group does what many suspect and go for a rebuild, but are transparent about it, I think they’ll be ok. The Marlins are saddled with debts and trading away Stanton now can be pitched as an attempt to get the team on solid financial footing so that they can sign and keep players in the future. Pair that with the last two champs achieving success with a tank to champs model and I think Jeter & Co. can be successful with fan support. I like the the teal look but I don’t see it coming back.
  25. MLB changes 2018?

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned that it appears to be a traditional embroidered patch and not a plastic metallic looking iron on.
