New York Islanders New Third Uniform Leaks

so the isles were giving away shirts featuring the new helmet script at their prospect game this week, and the t-shirts were navy. so i mocked up the rumored third, but on a navy jersey. think it would kind of work (excuse the execution in MS paint, i'm not a designer):

covered every team i root for! the jets actually beat them all to incorporating black into their color scheme where it never was before.

that argument is basically why they were what they wear now, but i don't really think of namath when i see the current set. they've built up 20 years of history in the current set, and some of it just as bad as 1-15 (i'm looking at you, butt fumble). ultimately, i think you may be disappointed, because i do think this is the logo the jets are going (back) to. it's extremely popular. almost everything in retail with this logo on it sells quickly, and FWIW, i do think it's a far superior logo to an variation of the oval. but we shall see!

as a mets fan, i'm going to give your mets concept a ringing endorsement...and i'm not even a big fan of our racing stripes. BUT, this is a great concept that incorporates them.

i really like the green, but throw me in for someone who desperately wants to see the return of a green helmet.

It's always crazy to me. Back then, I guess there was a thought was that interest would never be higher than when the team wore them for the first time, so they waited as long as possible. That just seems shortsighted on the teams' part. Earlier adopters are going to want it right away, and then people will want it when they see it on the ice. All you're doing is giving yourself less time to move stock.

Not that I'm aware of. For example, two of the last four Islanders third jerseys (orange in 2003 and first black in 2011) were unveiled in November. Their second black one (2015) was announced in mid-September. These were, of course, all under the Reebok era, so I don't know if the change over to Adidas has altered the league's approach.

it's a great opportunity for the jets to reclaim the kelly green. it's such a better look for them. the forest has grown incredibly drab, and the manufacturer problems with the various shades of it make it even worse. also returning to a green helmet would be a nice respite in a division where every team wear a white dome. i think something close to the concepts that have been floating around for a few months would leave most jets fans very happy. that '80s/'90s wordmark is still a favorite around NY.

I think what may be lost on some non-NY-based fans here is that the Islanders are playing just 29 of their 41 home games next season (and only 21 apiece the two seasons after that) at Barclays Center. The other 12 (and 21 the subsequent two seasons) will be back at Nassau Coliseum. This is while the team awaits construction of their new arena in Elmont, NY at Belmont Park, which is in Nassau County, back towards where the Coliseum is. There's a real hate-hate relationship with fans and Brooklyn, Barclays Center management (which also now runs Nassau Coliseum), and the Brooklyn-based arena itself. All the joys of being a fan of this franchise. So that's why it can chafe some Isles fans.

i am one, and it makes that hat an automatic pass for me, especially since their days in "brooklyn, ny" are numbered. hell, starting this year, they don't even play all their home games there.

I assume you mean the '15? It was fine. It was Brett Yormark's attempt to have synergy between the Islanders and the Nets when the Isles moved into Barclays Center. So the black-and-white and the Nets-inspired font was really all about fitting in the "Brooklyn brand" that Yormark has tried to cultivate. Like you said, in a vacuum, it was fine. It just didn't look like the Islanders. I'm really looking forward to what they do with the orange. The new ownership seems to get the Islanders fan base, so hopefully, they do a nice job with it. We shall see...

The Isles, man. We sure have a colored (no pun intended) history with third jerseys. I think as long as the orange is muted a little bit, it'll work really nicely. Like others have said, the striping will be key. You don't want them looking like traffic cones again out there (even though that was appropriate for last year's defense). And my Isles third uni ranking is: 1) 2014 Stadium Series 2) 2003 orange 3) 2015 black 4) "Wave" (fisherman template with original logo, which was technically an alt before it was a primary) 5) 2012 black The one thing i will say about the 2015 black is that it fixed the 'NY' mark by shortening and rounding it off, where it's elongated and kind of clunky on the stadium series jersey. The '12 black was maybe one of the least inspired and ill-fitting jerseys (identify wise) of all time in any sport.

hahaha, well...jamal adams is a champion of it, too. so there's that. i think there's enough smoke here that will probably lead to something in the next year or two.
