  1. So when the Solar Bears first came back, the logo shown above was in their graphic package but almost immediately disappeared and has never been used by the club. In the past two seasons or so, the Jr Solar Bears travel program all of the sudden started using it as their crest. Thoughts on it? I really like the pose alluding to the common sight around Orlando of an alligator cruising with just its head and snout above the water. I've never been able to track down a non-picture graphic of this logo, it's better than the ones they use currently imo.
  2. I’ve loved ESPN+ so far (Apple TV user) and feel that I get more than full value for the price, and that’s without ever planning to watch any basketball, football, tennis, or general ESPN shows. The IIHF worlds has been on, the MLS/USL games are great, and the international soccer planned has my interest. The only slight issue I’ve encountered is once or twice a game stream has failed to load but a simple menu out and retry has been enough to start it up.
  3. Gotta be keeping up with the Jones’s. Had this discussion with my father the the home opener, how are these things practical? It is admittedly nice to see replays in such magnification and definition but necessary it’s not. And the one here in Tampa isn’t even close to the biggest anymore. To be quite honest it’s a little unsettling being beneath it if you’re on the ice surface!
  4. That mantis looks very mechanical. Reminds me of an image from my childhood, I want to say a book or movie cover of a robot mantis. I like the colors.
  5. Long time resident, the Rays' problems are dumpy stadium and worse than horrible location. I'm highly skeptical that they're in movement talks if there's an open air (retractable roof a must) park for them on this side of the bay. For the experience you get, it's just simply not worth it to drive over from this side when you consider the protracted ride over, the late hour of getting back home, and the multitude of other things you could be doing instead. Very few people in this area who think a good way to spend an evening is inside of a warehouse dealing with mooks from New York, Boston, etc.
  6. I do. Don't have it with me or I would take some pics to go with the info to follow. The one I have is a blank, but clearly a team issue, given the differences between it and a 'normal' retail 2.0, which is rare anyway. I believe the team wore them numbered and everything for a casino night or similar event and those ones were auctioned. I don't know the timeline, but at some point they were way beyond being merely considered for use, as enough team stock exists to make up a solid 'Set 1'. Most teams use 2-3 sets of each jersey for a regular season. Whether the batch that mine came from went with the numbered ones to constitute a set or is a separate run, I'm unsure of.
  7. I have a humorous story about Recchi here in Tampa...we were sizing his wife and children for new skates and he was busy on the phone listing off cities. Surely, I thought, he's discussing trade destinations with his agent, as he's a veteran player teams normally add and the Lightning were in the midst of their second dead phase. It wasn't until he got to Green Bay and Kansas City that I realized he was placing his NFL bets.
  8. The Memphis jersey script shows as a neon sign quite nicely, and without being garish. Very nice.
  9. Sleeved basketball tops are far and away better looking than the traditional tank top look.
  10. Looking at the bottom hem tag peeking out, that's an AK jersey. Although it's style number is MIN###. That jersey is sold blank and those logos and numbers added later.
  11. Now that's one I wouldn't have expected. Seems like two completely separate and distinct eras.
  12. Pie in the sky outcome is Vinik buys them or somehow helps them get over to his rejuvenated Channelside, right by the Ice Palace, err, where the Lightning play. If 1/10 of the success and stability he's brought to the hockey team could be rubbed off on the baseball team, hoo boy!
  13. Lived here close to 20 years now, never heard of a fire frog. Fire ant? Now that would be some intimidating stuff. Fire frog? Sounds like a bargain firecracker.
  14. It's not allowed, was a mistake. Game was in London, Ontario and Florida was the designated home team but packed for a traditional road trip. Don't know if it's true, but a friend of mine with the Panthers said that a member of their equipment team has a brother who is with Dallas's equipment team, giving the entire thing another potential comedy level.
  15. I think it's a shame that it's gone. (But the jersey swap was a good choice.) The only negative this logo has going for it is that yes, it's yet another circular logo but there are enough elements included to keep it from being part of the "lazy roundel club", where Dallas and my Lightning's secondaries reside.
  16. I still can't get accustomed to the NHL having the number decals on the front of the helmet. I associate a sticker in that spot with it being a little kid's name on a piece of tape in a learn to skate class.
  17. Read the column in the paper today about USF potentially going to the Big12. I'm way out of date with college football knowledge, how likely is it that they make that change?
  18. From the description it sounds like someone had a batch made up, not a contemporary manufacture of the supposed release date of the jersey. The design is also not quite exact to any pictures of the "real" thing. That said, if anyone ever wanted to own one I'm sure this is the closest you'll ever get.
  19. That email chain reads like fan banter going back and forth. That's crazy. How 'bout that Keith slash job last night? Cheese 'n rice...
  20. I find it interesting that the lighter blue was seemingly in the mix from the start, if my eyes are to be believed on two of those logos. They chose the best one of those options I think.
  21. Not a fan of 3 on 3. I would say it's as far away from the game played during the original 60 minutes as the shootout is. Look at the AHL this year, it just devolves into line rushes and becomes hockey's equivalent of arena league football. The comparative quality from even 4 on 4 goes way down. Offensively or defensively there's really no way to structure yourself so at the least it will be interesting to see how teams approach it differently. A good puck playing goalie can have a huge impact with less players on the ice. If I were in charge, OT would be 10 minutes 4 on 4, then if needed a 5 man shootout. A win in regulation nets you 3 points, in OT or shootout 2 points and the loser 1. I'd even rather skipping the shootout and calling it a tie after 4 on 4 before having any meaningful time played 3 on 3.
  22. If they leave it will be very interesting where the team calls home. The NHL (ok, the owners) stand to make a very nice windfall from expansion fees. Why "waste" a Vegas, Seattle, or Quebec by relocating there? Could we possibly see a dissolution of the team, with a simultaneous expansion franchise being granted to still take in that sweet, sweet expansion fee? It's more complicated than that but I just can't see anyone leaving that money on the table.
  23. Looking at the kid in net tonight for the Oilers with his beautiful navy and copper accented pads just cements in mind how much superior those colors are to the blue and orange. I know, I know, anyone who has been here more than 6 months has probably heard me say this already.
  24. The gloves always stood out when they wore that alternate. Very little navy on that jersey and none of the lighter blue. An interesting jersey to be sure though.
