  1. NHL 2017-18

They should've done things the other way around and changed the sleeve/gen striping to match the socks. The thicker outlines would be a big improvement.
  2. NHL 2017-18

While the font change is definitely and upgrade, on the whole these are even worse than what they were wearing before. The old look was a template-y mess, but at least it was a template designed for the Edge jerseys. Now the side panels don't even connect with the underarm panel. It's just a floating blob of colour. I also thought the collars might look better in full gear, but they really don't.

I'm liking the simplicity of the O by itself at center ice. I can't tell from the picture, but hopefully they've gotten rid of the 3D centurion inside the red line. It reminds me a bit of the Yotes old ice, the way the logo fills the whole circle:
  5. 2017-18 CHL Logos/Jerseys

Yes, for whatever reason they've gone with this look for camp the last few years or so.
  6. NHL 2017-18

I'd agree with you in most cases (I never got used to saying Scotiabank Place), but seeing as TD Place is a complex that includes both an outdoor stadium & an indoor arena I'd consider it an exception.
  7. NBA Changes 2017-18

These look way too much like the Bulls. I prefer the black set from this era that used red & orange as trim colours. The orange is just enough to keep them from looking like Blazers rip offs.
  8. NHL 2017-18

The team website is now also putting emphasis on the =O= logo. Seems like they're finally listening to the backlash they've been getting for not making any major changes. Based on all the hints they're giving now, I wouldn't be surprised if they make the change official before the end of this season. I highly doubt fans will be busting down the doors to buy the Adizero messes anyway.
  9. NHL 2017-18

Ottawa did mention an interest in updating their look, but I think they were too late to make any major changes for this coming season. We may finally see them get rid of the Edge template for '18-19. My hope is they wear an updated heritage uniform for the NHL100 outdoor game, then use it as the basis for the new set.
  10. NHL 2017-18

Those would be alright if they go with blue numbers, names, and pants. Based on the home, I really hope they've decided to eliminate the black from their set (besides logos). Considering how much emphasis they've put on honoring the past uniforms though, the black is probably sticking around.
  11. NHL 2017-18

But you can make the argument that the Cowboys earned the nickname organically. They didn't redesign their uniforms with a US flag patch on the sleeves out of nowhere.
  12. NHL 2017-18

That's why the alternate logo from the old thirds is perfect. It incorporates the wheat field & mountains from the flag's crest, but uses the teams actual colour scheme. Much better than a contrasting flag slapped onto the shoulder. The Canadian flag might bother me even more than the Alberta one. There are 7 teams in Canada, 2 of which are named after people from Canada, and another 2 that have a maple leaf front and centre on their primary logo. Sure, the red & white flag isn't as gaudy on the Flames' jersey as the provincial one, but it is still a worse kind of pandering (I hate the idea of any NHL team being called "Canada's team").
  13. USA World Junior Buffalo Bills Inspired Jersey

Still makes more sense than when Canada went green and white to honor the Riders at the tournament in Saskatchewan. At least the colours match.
  14. NHL 2017-18

And the colours of the names have been inverted, likely due to complaints about legibility. We'll see if the numbers follow suit, or if they'll stay blue outlined in white.
  15. NHL 2017-18

Well when new team president Tom Anselmi mentioned potentially changing the logo, he did say that it was too late to make any changes for the upcoming season. It's likely we see a minor update to the template this year, with hopefully a switch to the heritage set (or at the very least black at home & the elimination of the current logo) coming for 2018-19.
  16. NHL 2017-18

The thing is, it's a Stadium Series game, not a Winter/Centennial Classic. It's almost guaranteed to be some sort of new design, not throwbacks or anything throwback-inspired. With that being said, pretty sure the Leafs will still be breaking out the Arenas throwbacks as they celebrate their centennial.
  17. NHL 2017-18

It's probably safe to say that we'll be getting military-themed uniforms for the Stadium Series game. As for the Finals uniforms, I was hoping to see the Preds put the Stanley Cup patch on the shoulder. I would finally even out their shoulder patches. On that thought, the Penguins could have put in on the shoulder too.

  19. NHL 2017-18

See, I prefer that 100%. The mask is the main element of the logo, and should be what stands out. The sticks are part of the background, so there is no need to shoehorn in a colour that is nowhere else to be found in the brand (especially one that is similar to one of the existing colours in the scheme) to make them stand out. That is my only gripe with the original Mighty Ducks uniforms. Jade, eggplant, and silver is a great colour scheme, but they decided to go with a jade, black, and yellow logo that stuck out in a bad way.
  20. NHL 2017-18

The only small tweak I'd make would be to change the sticks in the logo to orange. The yellow sticks out like a sore thumb.

  22. 2016-17 NHL Uniform and Logo Changes

With the Oilers announcing they'll be going with their orange thirds for the playoffs, I was thinking about other teams that could go the alternate route for the postseason. I would expect Minnesota and Washington to, considering they've both done it in the recent past. Depending on the organizations' plans for the future, Calgary and Ottawa could also be candidates.
  23. Small Details (and quirks) that You Love

While teams try and say it is to "enhance the brand", they are just there to make it tougher for counterfeiters. The Canes' flag pattern belongs on the jerseys, not just the inside collar.
  24. 2016-17 NHL Uniform and Logo Changes

This is why, while I do find the profile centurion logo aesthetically pleasing and a huge upgrade over the current logo, going back to it would be a half measure. This change is about more than just a logo, it's about the entire brand. You simply cannot generate a strong brand around something with such weak ties to the city/team name. That's how we ended up with a Gerard Butler impersonator at centre ice trying to pump up a playoff crowd. The =O= might not be the best or most interesting logo in the league, but it represents everything that the team should of be striving to represent. Ottawa has one of the richest hockey histories in the world, is the birthplace of the Stanley Cup, and was home to one of the leagues founding members (pre-Original Six). The heritage jerseys are a perfect way to tie all of this to the brand.
  25. NHL 2017-18

While I may not have been happy with all of their deadline moves, news like this gets me excited (although I'm still not getting my hopes up):
