  1. With the return of 3rd jerseys next season, I decided to try a new look for my Columbus Blue Jackets. With so many teams starting to go back to older logos, I decided to do the same and bring back the CBJ original. As a tie in to their current 3rd, I used the light blue as the jersey base color and the larger numbers from that set. C & C are appreciated.
  2. With the Blue Jackets' current (and ridiculous) 15-game winning streak gaining steam in the national media, many in Columbus think it's finally time that the league rewards the city with an outdoor game at the iconic Horseshoe. The "Unsustaina-bowl" created a ton of buzz around the hockey world this past weekend, and both ratings and ticket prices were off the charts. What better way than play in the annual Winter Classic against the CBJ's expansion brothers? Before I post the two teams' logos and uniforms, I am going to leave you with a couple of teasers C&C appreciated! More to come soon...
  3. The Kings miniseries went so well, I'm doing it again, this time with the Penguins! Like last time, I'm taking various styles the Pens have worn in their history, and sort of jumbling up which logos and colors are used, and also giving the Pens a suitable opponent and giving them similar treatment. Here's the itinerary: 60s Night: vs Rangers 70s Night: vs. Barons Blue Jackets 80s Night: vs Capitals 90s Night: vs Sabres 2K Night: vs Senators possible bonus nights: 90s Alt Night (TBD), Pittsburgh Hornets Night (likely vs. Flyers) So without further ado, 60s Night vs. the New York Rangers As is already known, what's old is new again as the Pens return to yellow gold...and here, the Pens' jersey uses the striping from the original set from 1966, only in the current colors. Took a little liberty by using shoulder crests at all...and now to the Broadway Blueshirts, whose set is red-heavy...because I felt like giving you something to complain about Seriously, though, picking a 60s opponent was tricky. I didn't want to dip into the opposite conference if I can help it, I don't want to use a given opponent more than once, and given these are for THIS season, the opponent kinda needs to be a current NHL team, albeit the history being dipped into doesn't necessarily need to be from the NHL (I'm leaning towards Blues and Stars series after this one, and I'm likely gonna dip into the WHA and a southern minor league or two). Far as the 60s go, the only Original 6 teams that look noticeably different from how they do now are the Leafs and Bruins, and not by a whole lot. Hell, I'm mildly surprised I was able to squeeze anything out of the Rangers, given how rarely they've strayed from their diagonal script. Later on, 70s Night vs. the Blue Jackets as the Barons...til then, speak on it.

    Columbus Blue Jackets Redesign

As a fan and a designer, I like the current Home and Away uniforms the Blue Jackets wear. I decided to redesign their current set just for fun. I'd love to hear everybody's opinion on the set. Thanks for taking a look!

Columbus Blue Jackets: Branding and Identity

The Columbus Blue Jackets are one of the few teams that have seen any changes to their main uniforms since the introduction to the Reebok Edge uniform system back in 2007. Ever since the team introduced the cannon roundel as a shoulder/secondary logo on their uniforms this past summer, it seems like the team may be moving away from their current primary mark. This project aims to create a new identity for the team with a nod to the past. The colors remain the same, but a classic, more simple set of stripes (which have been used on the team's socks since its inception) don the primary uniforms. The alternate uniform, which is inspired by work from Anthony Zych (a Blue Jackets inhouse designer known for his creative game day posters) speaks to the city of Columbus and its deep hockey roots, as well as further the team's marketing campaign of "March With Us". I'll go ahead and post the link to my project on Behance, but I will share some of the main highlights on here, too. Here are the main logos used, and the new word marks. And the uniforms. Enjoy, and check out the rest of this project on Behance!
  6. I know the 2016 Winter Classic hasn't even happened yet, but as a student from Ohio State, I always thought it would be a cool idea to host a Winter Classic in the future. The two teams playing are the Blue Jackets and Red Wings (Ohio State - Michigan). I drew up a logo and two jerseys to go with it. Let me know what you think!
  7. I have seen other concepts with chevrons for sleeve stripes and had an idea for my own version. I looked at the chevrons for an Ordnance sergeant from the union army. I made the initial color scheme for the jackets one to resemble a Union Army uniform with two tones of blue and no red in the design. the other version do utilize Columbus' color scheme with the addition of a lighter blue that they use on the present alternate. I am open to any and all critiques that anyone has. First the logos the oval one ont he bottom right and the circular one on the bottom left are meant to be secondary or shoulder logos. The C and the star obviously are for Columbus being the capital of Ohio. the crossed cannons are inspired by the insignia found on Civil War era kepis and uniforms. The founder of the Blue Jackets John H. McConnell initials are included in some of the designs actual Civil War chevrons that inspired me The uniform sets. First design. The two tone blue with white and a touch of grey or silver. The pants are to look like the Union Army's pants and go with the idea that the jackets have now with different colored pants from the jersey. The founder of the Jackets initials are included on these designs like they are on the alternate and the "We march, We fight" inside the collar. 2nd design. Using the Jackets colors and adding the light blue trim with a little bit of grey. 3rd design. Has less red and less grey and more blue on it. I was tryin some of the other logos and added the red stripes on the flag logo to look more like the Ohio flag. As i go along i will add different versions and revisions of the uniforms and logos. I want to use them for the Hockey Jersey Concepts.

    Columbus Blue Jackets

When I think about sports in Ohio, I think of tradition. Ohio State, the Browns, the Indians, and the Cavs (not too recently) have all had some of the most timeless uniforms of all time. However, one team stands out - the Blue Jackets. Granted the Blue Jackets are a 2000 expansion team, but I just think they can do so much more with their uniforms and identity. This is a team named after the Civil War, so why not have some neo-traditional uniforms? The primary logo is taken from their alternate jersey. Personally I think its one of the best logos in the NHL. The secondary is the current secondary, recolored. The third is a play of the Cleveland Barons logo. Shows respect to the only other NHL team from Ohio.
  9. After seeing how great the Winter Classic was at Michigan Stadium, and how much I want the Columbus Blue Jackets to have the chances they need to gain traction and survive as a franchise, I came up with this. The NHL needs to get involved in the Toledo War, the war between the state of Ohio and the Michigan territory over the port of Toledo that led to the tremendous rivalry that those two states share today (Ohio got Toledo, Michigan got the Upper Peninsula), and the way to capitalize on the Michigan-Ohio hatred is to have the Detroit Red Wings play against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Ohio Stadium The logo is a horseshoe, for Ohio Stadium, which is horseshoe-shaped and often referred to as "the horseshoe". The interior of it is the open portico to enter the stadium, and the buckeye is off to the side. I'm terrible at original logos, so I kinda threw that together. The rest is why I made it. Detroit was a no-brainer, a vintage-white version of their old white uniforms made so much sense. I added a simple patch for the people of Michigan to bring into Ohio. The Blue Jackets was a little tougher Columbus was a little tougher. I had a blue and red version of their third jersey with just the cannon, and that looks great, but it didn't look like enough for a Winter Classic. I wanted something vintage where I could have the Ohio state outline for the numbers, just like the Barons used, and to make it look very vintage Civil War kind of stuff. I'm definitely open to suggestions on it though. C&C? UPDATE: This is the jersey I rejected because it isn't all that different from their current alternates. However, with the response that it got, I'll promote it. The one major change is the update to the hat logo, replacing the star, which I think the team needs to move away from, with the state outline of Ohio. Not only does it look more Civil War-era, but it does more to appeal to the entire state of Ohio, a pride segment that they have yet to exploit. It doesn't hurt that the red stripes with the silver are Ohio State-like, too.

NHL Concepts - Black is Back in 'Lumbus

Hey guys, considering it's a brand new hockey year, I figured that I'd fix the teams that needed it the most, starting with Ottawa. I know I'm a Leafs fan, but Ottawa's jerseys are just cookie-cutter messes. I decided to go back to the alternate from 2000 as my main inspiration. I loved that sweater, and I miss seeing it on the ice. I tweaked the home to be red, brought back the Peace Tower shoulder patch and made a home jersey to match. The alternate jersey stays the same, as it's a great thowback jersey. What do you guys think about this as a set? I'm open to your suggestions.
