  1. Houston Astros Fauxback Alt

Hello all. This is my first attempt at a concept in quite a while and was whipped up in about 2-3 days' free time (which isn't much). However, this has been an idea kicking around in my head for a while that I feel should be an ideal, stands-out-but-still-shows-restraint take on the Houston Astros' rainbow tequila sunrise jerseys of the 1970s and 1980s. While I feel that the alternate here is much nowhere near as polished and makes perhaps the best blend of the Astros' old "cutout" star and the rainbow tequila sunrise pattern, I tried to aim for something that Houston could conceivably use, using a full star (but not beveled--even the cap logo has had that removed). Keep in mind that the number font is not the same, and I plan to do a little more refining (smoother, less pixelated star lines and so forth), but I hope you get the gist. White Option: Navy Option: I've also considered cutting less of the pattern on the front, as seen here, as I'm not a fan of the stripe just beginning at the seam, but I feel that less is more with the stripe ending at the star, though my initial thought is that that cutout section referenced the original planned A logo planned with the original rainbow tequilla sunrise uniforms. I also didn't like the way they showed up on the blue uniforms, but I may take a second look at that option as well. Anyways, I feel that there's something missing, like text or patches (which I plan to at least add), but what do you guys think? C+C is appreciated.
  2. Hey y'all, I haven't posted here before but I've been a long time follower and have recently signed up. So please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong spot. I know that everyone has their favorite Astros uniform, but I personally prefer the 94-99 look. It's one of if not my favorite MLB hat of all time. It bothers me that I've been looking for years for a low profile version of the throwback cap and thought I recently found as close to the actual hat as I've been able to here: http://shop.neweracap.com/style/MLB-Cooperstown-Low-Crown-59FIFTY-Cap/20948652 I needed to wait for pay day and now they no longer have my size (7 3/8). It's close to heartbreaking. They wore the road versions this past Saturday against the Rangers and I think I recall they will honor Bagwell in them on the 19th at home. Is there any info any of you can point me to that might lead me to finding a 7 3/8 size in the low profile? I know that they usually put the throwbacks up for sale near the day that they wear them but I can't help but think I'm just waiting for more disappointment.
  3. So, now that I got the Miami Marlins off my chest, I figured I should tweak the other teams that have been bothering me too. Nothing bothered me as much as the Marlins, but it doesn't take much to aggravate me...sadly. The next team I wanted to put a paint brush to was San Diego. Like most, I feel they should be going back to the brown and yellow colors. I on the other hand want to put more emphasis on the brown and keep the yellow to a minimum. I have no issue with their current word scripts and uniform style, I just feel the brown and yellow would look better. So with that in mind, here is my version of the Padres. The away has a grey that has very slight orange tint to it, just to give it some warmth with the brown and yellow. Then there is the Home alternate. The big trend of having the logo over the heart/left side is not missed on the Padres. I'm currently working on a brown top alternate for the road as well as a new main logo that will combine a few era's logos with the swinging friar as the center piece. How does that look? C+C appreciated.
  4. MLB logos redesigned

Hi All, My name is Brandon Johnson, otherwise known as hawkfan13 on here and I have decided to take up the challenge of redesigning all 32 team logos in the MLB. So far I have 2 done, the Brewers and the Dodgers. These are potential portfolio pieces for me so any advice and cc is appreciated. Thanks for looking Brewers- In my opinion, the logo they have now is getting stale, it has now been around for a year longer (16 years) then arguably their best logo the glove in the shape of a m and b, which would be used as a alternate logo. In this case I wanted to revise their current logo into a more modern sans serif version of it.
  5. MLB Tweaks (Final Logos)

Hey everyone, For a while I've enjoyed to think about what kind of changes I would make to uniforms across MLB, just being into design as I am. I've always wanted to make a thread of my own here after seeing so many great ones, but never thought I had the computer skills, nor did I really think hand-drawns would show up great online. After my Twins concept though, I got to thinking and decided to at least try to flesh it out into an entire MLB-wide series. Things are probably gonna slow down quite a bit from me once school starts back up, but at least this is worth starting. This series is just gonna be my fixes to things across each of the uniforms, I'm gonna save major redesigns for maybe a future series... So here it goes starting off, naturally, with the Arizona Diamondbacks: Logos -Brick red, Black, and Teal are now the main colors. It's a good time for Arizona to move on to a more modern scheme. -The teal has been adjusted a bit, it's a little greener to look more like a color inspired by Native Navajo jewelry rather than Tron electric blue. -Caps are both the A logo, just because I'm personally not a fan of the D snake. -Both caps have the diamond snakeskin pattern on the brim to still achieve the two-tone look. -Sand-ish colors are still present in the identity, as the home is now cream, and the away is full-on the sand color. Uniforms -I like the way the 'D-backs' wordmark looks, besides the fact that it says 'D-backs'. I had to compromise and put the 'A' on the home. -The diamond pattern is on the back of all jerseys, which makes sense for a team named the Diamondbacks. -No pattern on the pants. It isn't really necessary. -I decided to keep the cut piping, but cut it at an angle on the jerseys, like the pants. The colors are also now teal/red/teal on the jerseys because I feel that looks more Arizona and less Tron. -As said before, the away is now sand. I didn't hate the concept of dark gray, just didn't think it fit the team, especially with teal. -Snake patch is on all jerseys. -Both alternates can be home and road. -Some may not like this, but all accessory elements are interchangeable. Things like hats, belts, and socks can be worn in different combinations with different jerseys. So, of course, let me know what you all think! All comments/criticisms welcome!
  6. Cream Jerseys?

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a few teams' home jerseys look cream this year? I'm specifically talking about the Padres, Mariners, and to a lesser extent the Astros. Maybe it's just the lighting against the new materials, or maybe it's on purpose. Anyone else? Here's a comparison for the M's. Couldn't find any good action shots for the Padres, whom I really notice it on. Shows up well in game footage. 2016 2015:
  7. One team has had one of baseball's most colorful uniform histories. The other is currently under the impression that it is a college team. I give you the Lone Star Series, 20 minutes into the past First, the Astros This is basically the 70s & 80s Rainbow Guts in black, brick and sand for the home set, and the 80s-93 Rainbow sleeves for the road. Even decided to echo their use of the lightest gray ever, and later cream, for the roads by using a lighter sand as the base color. Now, the Rangers Honestly, most of the good ideas I've ever had for the Rangers, I've already used. So here, I break out the 90s star and slap it on the left chest like a badge. The grays, I thought about what to do until I chose a decidedly 1900s direction: a big TX, one letter on each side of the chest. And not much else. Speak on it. Might as well make a list so you know what to expect...so Canada (Blue Jays vs Expos-90s) Texas (Astros vs Rangers-2000s) St. Louis (Cardinals vs Browns-40s) Philly (Phillies vs A's-30s or 40s) NYC (Dodgers vs Giants vs Yankees-50s) Beantown (Red Sox vs Braves-30s or 40s) I-94 (Brewers vs White Sox-70s...or 80s..or early 90s. Not sure yet.)
  8. MLB Alternate Batting Helmets

In the big leagues, many teams have alternate or away caps, but don't have a batting helmet to match it, making for inconsistent headgear. I decided to make batting helmets concepts based off these hats. The template didn't really turn out the way I wanted it to, but the helmets don't look bad. My favorite concept is the orange Marlins helmet. Since these concepts aren't anything new, I'll put them all in a few posts. C & C would be greatly appreciated, as this is my first time doing anything other than hockey jerseys. Thanks!
  9. It's been forever, several years actually, since I've posted a non-alternate universe concept on this board. Been wanting to do a rethinking of the Astros for a very long time, especially for the past two years since a uniform change to the old colors was announced. I figured instead of doing up the whole concept and unleashing it all at once, I'd instead post the individual elements as I go and allow for feedback and critique to steer it into territories that even I may not have conceived. So here it is, the modernized yet retro rethinking of the classic Houston Astros rainbows. Enjoy.
  10. Houston Astros alternate uniform concept

Well, I just kinda had to. I wanted to see the current graphics and fonts with the classic rainbows on a button and belt uniform. I fully expect this to be roundly disliked, so have at it!
  11. Houston Astros Concept Ver. 3

This is actually an update to a previous concept I did about a year ago. Them being called the Astros, I naturally went with something sleek and futuristic and came up with this... I've been spending too much time at the arcade... ^^; Anyway, I think the uniform is a bit too plain, but I'm not sure what else to add. Any ideas? Also, tell me what you think of the logos, of course.
  12. MLB Cap Concepts

Didn't want to continue to derail the thread in the main section, but this was my initial concept I mocked up in a few minutes: Anyway, I made a few quick updates to the design when I had a chance and so I thought I'd post it up here for you all to see. It's not where I want it yet, so please be gentle.
  13. Houston Astros Concept Ver. 2

For this concept, the Astros go steampunk! I tried to use modern/futuristic design elements that would blend well with an early-20th century aesthetic. I know it's not great, but I can't think of anything else to do with it at the moment. If you have any suggestions on how to improve it, I'd love to hear them.
