  1. Hello. I am an animator and video editor and I have been working on and off on a logo redesign project for the better part of a year now (with long stretches of inactivity) as a way to get better at illustrator and I thought I would make an account here for some critique. I started really getting in to logo design when I came across a black and white and horribly pixelated design for a Fleur De Lis that I thought could be made into a St. Louis Blues logo, and after contacting the owner of the shop and asking about it and if I could mess with it, I did. I didn't really think it worked well as a main logo, but I did think it worked as a shoulder patch. I did it in a couple other colors as well and took the wordmark from the actual St. Louis Blues sheet music after an idea from the kind folks on the Blues subreddit. Over a year later I thought I decided I needed to get better at illustrator so I started designing alternate/shoulder logos for the rest of the league. I'm "done" with about 1/4 of the league at this point. Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear suggestions on what I need to improve on, but keep in mind I dont really know what I am doing. Also, if there is a better way to format this let me know. St. Louis Original: Wordmark: Colors: Revision: I did Minnesota next, where I thought a roundel logo would look cool. I did two variants of the same logo and one that was a riff on their main logo. 1: 2: 3: Colorado This one I actually think could stand up as a main logo. I got rid of their ugly "Millennium swoops' Winnipeg Classic colors: Modern Colors: Toronto: based on the city of Toronto's flag Ottowa: I wanted to play off their older logo that everyone loves so much without just making it an exact copy Revision: Buffalo: I took the crossed swords from their red logo days and put them behind the skull I drew. Penguins: I replaced the iconic triangle with a Pennsylvania keystone. Hopefully that doesn't make me a heretic. Revision: I put the penguin in a complete keystone and I like it, but I still think the half keystone looks better. Lightning: Honestly something's missing from this one, but everything I add makes it look worse so I decided to ask you all what you think. the L works pretty good but it seems empty. Again, these aren't really meant to replace the logo front of the jersey, most are meant to be shoulder patches, but this one feels empty. Wordmark: I thought trying to make it a wordmark would work a little bit better, and it does in some aspects, but it feels really empty still. Canadiens: I took the Fleur from the Montreal flag and tried to turn it in to an "M"which I think works pretty well, but I do think it needs some more polishing. I don't really like this better than their current logo but I think something like it could work as a shoulder patch 1: 2: Stars: I took their old star logo and updated the colors and added a recolored Texas flag. Then I removed the wordmark and had the star go through the middle of a D in the same style as the other letters 1: 2: I'm still working on my Blues Fluer de Lis, but I am pretty excited for what I have in the works for the Wings.
  2. As much as I love the new Bolts logo and uniforms, when they're placed next to the Maple Leafs it REALLY drives home how similar the two are. While some clamored for the old set I honestly didn't like the striping and I prefer Tampa Bay as a blue base team as opposed to a black base. Nevertheless, black and silver need to comeback to distinguish the Bolts from the Leafs and so here we are One of my biggest pain points with the old set is that too much black weighed down the uniform. This is alleviated by keeping the black to a minimum secondary and brightening the blue. (It's for this reason there are sleeves on the road whites but not on the home blues. The primary logo stays almost the exact same as far as proportion but you can see the how the brighter blue pops allowing the use of black without added weight. The existing wordmarks would carry over just with the new blue used. So Tampa Bay...ready to stop looking like you're in Ontario?
  3. Trying to play with something I always thought would work for the Bolts. I like the secondary they have now, but I just thought this could be a tertiary, or if they ever make the secondary the primary. I tried to do my own bevel...but I kinda got stuck. So I'm providing two examples, one with the unfinished bevel and one without. Its still a work in progress. Let me know what you think, any advice, changes that need to be made. Thanks.
  4. I've never posted a hockey concept before. I just recently got a template together, so I thought I'd try it out. I had a lot of fun making it. Thoughts?
  5. This may sound crazy, however Florida would make a great place for an outdoor game, probably a stadium series game. The perfect place would be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stadium (Raymond James Stadium). Tampa Bay can reach the temperature of nearly 32 F, a perfect temperature and can sustain ice long enough. This would be perfect for these two Florida teams, shedding much press attention on what would have otherwise been a fairly unnoticed event by them. The jersey were based off the old Tampa jerseys mashed together and were meant for Tampa only, however the Panthers looked too good in them to pass by. Generally the theme besides storm vs sun is retro jerseys. The arena would be set up with palm trees all around the outskirts similar Minnesota's pine tree display. There would be a small picture above the arena of a sun facing off against a storm, pushing against one another. This would be between the logos. When the Bolts come out lightning coils will activate as they walk in. When the Panthers walk in fire will erupt followed by gold-ish smoke. Worst case scenario it all melts .
  6. Here we go again..... It's been awhile since I dabbled with the Thunder's look. I'm starting off slow this time with a concept board. It shows several different configurations of bison/cloud looks. The key ideas/thoughts/buzz words here are; power - maleficent - foreboding. Let me know what you think.
  7. It's been a while since I posted any new concepts here, but I recently got the idea to redesign a logo for one of the universities in my home state of Wisconsin. Other than the Badgers, UW Stevens Point, and UW Platteville, there are plenty of schools in the UW system that could use an update. I decided to go with the UW-Oshkosh Titans, because I feel their logo with a titan helmet and lightning would make a great identity if executed better. The details that make up their current logo, which I think they've had since around 2004, have always been confusing to me (Is it just me or does that lightning bolt look more like the mane of an animal?) My goal was to mainly focus on the energy within the lightning and redistribute it through the whole helmet area. I've recreated the logo focusing on the following changes: 1) The lightning bolt now also fills in for the plume above the helmet. 2) Gold, which isn't on most of their teams' jerseys anyway, has been eliminated to simplify the colors, 3) The S in TITANS seems jarring to me since it sharply angles away from the bottom arch, so I changed the lettering. The only thing I'm not sure about in my redesign concept is if the UWO/lightning bolt on the very bottom below fits with the overall identity or not.
  8. So I was thinking about this redesign for all the schools I've been to in my life I might do and my elementary school was royal and on the verge of being volt yellow and maybe those colors might look good on the Tampa Bay Lightning, is what was going on in my head. So here the project. TAMPA LIGHTNING REBRAND BY ECUFAN25 Logo: Uniforms:
  9. Back again guys. This time working with the Tampa Bay Lightning. I could never tell if I liked the TB jerseys. I was always on the fence. I love the incorporation of black into their color schemes so I tried to combine some of my favorite elements of past Tampa jerseys. I also wanted to try to make something different and kind of unique (hence the yoke design) Let me know what you think!
  10. Hey all. I've been browsing the forums for quite a while, but I haven't posted any concepts until now. While I do have a plan for a larger series of concepts in the works, I figured that it'd be beneficial for me to sort of get my feet wet, so to speak. With all that out of the way, allow me get to the concept itself. The Tampa Bay Lightning are interesting case to be certain. They've had all of two identities in their short tenure in the NHL. Most people on here aren't huge fans of their current look, calling it a cross between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings. With all the negativity, I thought to myself, "Why haven't more people taken a crack at making a new Lightning identity?" I quickly found out the answer to this question - it ain't easy to do. I myself think that their current look is decent, but it could certainly be improved. However, I'm not a big fan of their past look either, so that's out of the question as well. So, what I did was a pseudo-combination of the two identities with some extra touches here and there. What's in from the old set? Mostly the colors. Hawaiian blue is back, and black is too - well, somewhat. I substituted the black with a very dark navy color (I haven't thought of a "name" for it yet but I'll look further into it). What's in from the new look? The shape of the crest mostly. I originally tried to make something that was a bit of a cross between the current logo and what the Canes use currently, but that didn't go over so well. So I took inspiration from the current shoulder patch and modeled it closer to that. And what's new? Plenty. For starters, a new lightning bolt takes center stage, more simplified than the other ones. I took a little inspiration from the Flash logo (this one) and the Screw Attack (see here). Also added is a new color, electric blue. This would be used as a highlight color only, as I don't think you'd want to see a team go out on the ice in that color. My thought process was that if you have a team named the Lightning, you should have a little something that pops, and electric blue looked good in my head. It's worth noting that the colors were the first thing I came up with for this concept. Beyond that, there's not much to say. I put it in a roundel and gave it colors. If anything, this is more of an independent idea than a combination of eras. I do plan on tweaking this many more times in the following couple days (though not this weekend, as my family will be visiting), as it is still very much a work in progress. That being said, I would LOVE to get your thoughts on this. Good? Bad? Step in the right/wrong direction? Marketing name for the dark navy? Please, fire away. One thing that I do want to know is the official Pantone color for the Hawaiian blue, but I plan on contacting Colorwerx about that one sometime soon. If you know by chance, let me know and I'll adjust it. As of now, I'm not sure if I'm going to create all the bells and whistles for this yet - alternate logos, uniforms, marketing shenanigans, et al. I do have some ideas for an alternate logo that would most likely be the shoulder patch, but that's a ways down the road. Just post some C&C and I will absolutely listen to all of it and take it into consideration. Thanks for taking a look!
  11. HJC is holding a Stadium Series themed competition right now where entrants are to design uniforms for a hypothetical Stadium Series game. I chose Washington and Tampa Bay as it would be an interesting game. Star power between Ovechkin and Stamkos, and the two teams don't always get along. They've had some heated playoff series in the past so I believe both fanbases could get behind this. Plus it introduces a new team to the outdoor scene. All we have to create uniforms so all I'll be doing is adding the pants, helmets, etc. I won't be getting as in depth as some will. (Stadiums, Patches, Bleh, etc.) I may just use this years SS patch without a number as a placeholder. However, I imagine that the game would take place in DC, probably FedEx Field where the Redskins play as I'm not sure Florida can get or consistently stay cold enough to host an outdoor game. Raysox tells me it had been in the 40's that past week or so in Florida, but I feel like that was a fluke and he's a liar. The set on the left, the way I see it, is a combo between 1) Arm length yoke with enlarged arm striping and 2) Vertical hem striping playing off of the yoke. The set on the right features a large vertical stripe going down the torso. I also created a new collar for these jerseys. It's basically an Edmonton style collar but more square
  12. I always loved the set the Lightning had from 1992 til 2007, even though it's not a popular opinion. I wanted to come up with something that kind of evoked it, but I wanted to add more silver...for a reason. The main gimmick of the new Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniforms is the apparent "reflective" number set. My idea is to have all the silver in the crests and numbers be made of this reflective material, so it would pop more on the ice. Especially when you shine a spotlight directly on the player after a goal perhaps. It would be the most appropriate team to try it out on. Here is my concept: . Comments welcome.
  13. Hey Guys! It's been a long time since i have posted something, so here is something that i worked on. There are rumors of Tampa Bay getting a third and this is my concept. I went with a simple design but definitely something modern. Hope you like this one! C&C Welcome!
  14. Huge storm blew through Regina last night, and I picked up a wicked strike on the dashcam, and the guy I chase with had an equally impressive reaction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cffz-2tfCCM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cffz-2tCCM
  15. THis is just for fun, it's a small fantasy league between my 7th grade class, the first is Jake and Andy's Ligfhtning! This is a very rough scetch-up, an all for a little fun, please remember that.
