  1. It's been a few months since my last thread, so I figured I'd start a new one. Hopefully I can keep this going for a while and maybe even finish it. As we all know, many of the recent outdoor jerseys have drawn plenty of criticism. In this series I'm revisiting every NHL outdoor sweater to fix the problems that ruined the uniforms. I'm starting with the most recent game and working backwards all the way to the first Heritage Classic in 2003. Here we go! 2018 STADIUM SERIES - ANNAPOLIS, MD WASHINGTON CAPITALS While the Capitals' uniforms weren't terrible, they could use some improvement. The "cummerbund" is no longer an issue and the white yoke is now red. I also added elements that represent the city of DC while also giving a nod to the US military. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS The original uniforms were hard to look at, especially in person, as I went to the game. I got rid of the white pants and added a few things here and there that again represent the city of the team and their country's military. C&C is welcome and appreciated.

    NHL Adidas Alternates

An image was released on one of the NHL threads here, and it had a list of teams that are supposedly getting an alternate jersey next year. I had started to work on a concept for the Ducks and Flyers when I first saw this. I will be fairly busy over the next few months, so we'll see how often I can finish these, but without further ado, here is my Columbus Blue Jackets Alt. This was also based off of the rumor mentioned in an NHL thread, that the colors would be the same as their previous Alt, but the design would be different. C&C appreciated!
  3. I searched through threads for the past year and couldn't find anything like this, so I figured I would post it. The idea behind this thread is to post interesting facts or statistics that a lot of people don't know. It'll essentially be the answers to trivia questions. I've got two interesting ones to start this thread off. The Minnesota Vikings were the first team to kick an extra point from the 15-yard line. Tom Brady has played two games at University of Phoenix Stadium, but he has never played the Cardinals there. The Pats have played two Super Bowls there, but only played the Cardinals at home since the stadium was built.
  4. We have the Players in the "Wrong" Uniforms thread and within that thread I've seen a few "Right Team, Wrong Uniform" entries. I thought I'd separate the two, because it is an interesting topic of its' own. Here are a few to start the thread off with ... Charles Barkley, Preseason 1992, Phoenix Suns Matt Hasselbeck, 2001, Seattle Seahawks Jeff Bagwell, 1992, Houston Astros.
  5. Back in 2016 I started a new hand drawn series that unfortunately stalled at 18 concepts. Dwindling inspiration, dissatisfaction with some the concepts and the decision to add helmet designs made me pull the plug and take a much needed break. Now I am back with a new series that I am truly proud of. I can say with complete confidence that I have given this new series every thing I have. I began working on new concepts at the start of 2017 and work has continued to this day. All 31 teams will be tackled and I plan on posting a new concept each day. Currently, 25 teams are completed so there will not a drop-off in material as there was on my last thread. I will kick things off with a team that just made its first Conference Final. Nashville Predators The Predators almost got things perfect with their 2011 redesign but a few bad decisions have them currently sitting in the middle of the pack. I removed the unnecessary piping and went with simple, traditional stripes. The Predators made gold more prominent on their road socks in 2013 so I decided to apply this change to the rest of the road uniform. It was tempting to go with a Navy alternate but I really wanted to make them the de-facto Gold team. The alternate adds silver to tip the hat to the pre 2011-look and the 3D logo has received a simplification in the same vein as the current primary. C & C welcome, thanks for looking .

Columbus Blue Jackets Stripes inspired by Ohio Flag St. Louis Blues Based on their 2017 winter classic jersey Washington Capitals Features 13 stripes on the front of the jersey
  7. When I was in my early teens, my parents bought me NCAA Football 98 for the computer. I really enjoyed the game, and it was very well-designed for the most part: 100+ schools; full-season play with rankings, major bowl games, and major awards; school fight songs; decent playbooks; something approximating logos on the helmets. It was a very good game for the late 1990s---not as good as the Football Pro series overall, but distinctly collegiate and lots of fun. Anyway, despite the overall quality, there were two details that I have since learned were wrong. One, LSU by default wears yellow jerseys over white pants at home in that game. Two, Missouri's colors are green and gold in the game instead of black and gold. (Come to think of it, I think the latter was also the case in that college hoops game for the Super Nintendo even earlier.) I was wondering: have you guys and gals noticed any similar errors in other games? (Incidentally, Football Pro 98 has the Eagles wearing kelly-green-and-gray even though they were in their second season with their current and inferior color scheme.)

    Pittsburgh Penguins Concept

Got bored an decided to make a Penguins concept. I tried to draw inspiration from their previous sets while still trying to stay modern. The home features two stripes, one white and one gold. The away features the coloured upper-arms that they currently use, while still fitting with the pattern. C&C is appreciated!

    San Jose Sharks Concept

Decided to give a go at modernizing the original Sharks jerseys, updating the color scheme and making the design matching. I eliminated orange and replaced it with gray, slightly edited the striping size and colours, and converted the hem stripes into an actual hem, resulting in a clean, modernized look. What do you think? C&C is appreciated!
  10. A companion series to "Players in the 'wrong' uniforms" and "Players on the right team but wrong uniform"...this is about players who spent most of their careers in crappy unis. Obviously the poster boy here is Tom Brady. But there are others. There must be others.
  11. With the Leafs expected to unveil an alternate this offseason, I decided to try out an idea for them. I expect them to stay traditional with this, maybe even a simple fauxback, but with some modern elements. For this concept, I took ideas from their previous striping, specifically from their early blue jerseys, the 1967-70 set, and their white alternate from the early 2000s. The pattern is the same on the sleeves and hem, and the modified three stripes return to the socks. What do you think? C&C welcome.
  12. I've never posted a hockey concept before. I just recently got a template together, so I thought I'd try it out. I had a lot of fun making it. Thoughts?
  13. HJC just finished their Pairs Comp, And I teamed up with fellow designer Burkus Circus for an idea for a 2019 Centennial Classic doubleheader. The main idea is that the NHL is helping the Packers celebrate their centennial season by playing two outdoor games at Lambeau Field. First, a College matchup between the Golden Gophers and Badgers, then an NHL showdown between the Blackhawks and Wild. I designed the Event Logo, Ice Surface, and Slideshow, while Burkus Circus designed the jerseys and title page. Disclaimer: I have received full permission from Burkus Circus to display our work here. Thanks for watching!
  14. Felt like making some hockey jerseys, and have had this idea in my head for some time, so I present to you Provincial/Territorial Hockey Jerseys, where I will be giving each of Canada's provinces and territories.. you guessed it, hockey jerseys! British Columbia Alberta Saskatchewan Manitoba Northern Ontario Ontario Quebec New Brunswick Nova Scotia Prince Edward Island Newfoundland and Labrador Yukon Northwest Territories Nunavut St. Pierre and Miquelon Since I'm still not 100% confident in my logo-making abilities, The logo for each team is their respective shield. Like series before, I'm not doing these in any particular order, so if you want a certain one done, I'll do it. Let's get to it! First up we have Saskatchewan. Firstly, anything other than green for the home jersey would be blasphemous so I obviously went with that. The rest of the colours are from the provincial flag, mainly using yellow and having minimal red accents. The striping pattern features two traditional stripes, with cuffs on the arms. This pattern is also featured on the socks and hem. The away jersey features a yoke, and the star of the show is a sublimated wheat pattern on the chest, paying homage to the many farmers and wheat fields in the province. I used a classic block font, the same one used by the Roughriders, the pride of the province. Left Wings: Jaden Schwartz, Patrick Marleau (C), Chris Kunitz (A), Scott Hartnell (A) Centres: Ryan Getzlaf (A), Brayden Schenn, Tyler Bozak, Brooks Laich Right Wings: Jordan Eberle, Blake Comeau, Josh Archibald, Adam Cracknell Defensemen: Ryan Murray, Matt Dumba, Derrick Pouliot, Luke Schenn, Brayden McNabb, Erik Gryba Goalies: Devan Dubnyk, Braden Holtby C&C is appreciated, as well as requests!
  15. To me it's still aparent that Tampa still looks like the Leafs. So, I went out a limb and changed their color scheme from blue and white, to black and white. The hanger effect is the color from the all-star game held in Tampa last year, I figuered it would be okay to use, since it wont be seen anyway. Blue only appears on the gloves as an outline for the brands logo... Since they somewhat resemble LA, I will be doing an LA redesign. C&C welcome.

    NHL 2017-18

I thought it would be wise to create a separate thread for next season. What we know: -Adidas is taking over the production of the on-ice jerseys. Fanatics will produce the retail jerseys. -Alternate jerseys will not be worn during the 2017/18 season. -Edmonton Oilers will promote their orange 3rd jersey to full-time home status. Rumors: -New Jersey Devils are reported to have a redesign in store. -Washington Capitals are rumored to be returning to the retro jerseys full time. *edit- also if a mod could move the posts from the 2016/17 thread to this one, that would be cool.
  17. Winter break means... not a lot to do so I can try to jump back into some jersey and logo concepts! This is hopefully be a series that will cover every NHL team. Some of them will get brand new logos, not all of them. I'm gonna start off with two rebranded teams: the Blackhawks today and the Avs tomorrow. Often designs I used will be influenced by other designers, and I'll try my best to give each of them credit. 1/30: Chicago Blackhawks Without having a huge political argument over whether or not the Blackhawks logo is offensive, I've always liked the idea of using a literal hawk in the logo instead of the Chief. This is obviously influenced by Mike Ivall's original design, as well as Brandon Moore's recent crack at it as well. As aesthetically appealing as the old shoulder logo was, I think the tomahawk motif is a bit outdated so I went more straightforward. I chose a path closer to the 60s-90s logo, where in normal application the Hawk has no outline, but on the jersey it has a gold outline. The jerseys are consistent with the ones now, although I changed the numbers on the aways to better balance out the red and black compared to now. C&C is of course appreciated, and I'll have a new Avs logo and jersey tomorrow!
  18. I have been snooping around on here for a while and I am ready to give it a shot. Because I am getting on Spring Break right now, I decided I would do a project. I am going to be refreshing and redesigning many big four sports teams. Here's a list: MLB Baltimore Orioles Tampa Bay Rays (Page 2) Cleveland Indians Minnesota Twins Houston Astros Los Angeles Angels Oakland A's Texas Rangers New York Mets (Page 1) Philadelphia Phillies (Page 1) Cincinnati Reds Pittsburgh Pirates Los Angeles Dodgers San Francisco Giants NHL Boston Bruins New York Islanders New York Rangers Washington Capitals Los Angeles Kings (Page 2) San Jose Sharks NFL Cleveland Browns Pittsburgh Steelers Kansas City Chiefs (Page 2) New York Jets Indianapolis Colts Green Bay Packers Washington Redskins NBA Boston Celtics Brooklyn Nets Orlando Magic (Page 1) Dallas Mavericks Los Angeles Clippers Los Angeles Lakers Utah Jazz (Page 2) Here's the first team Team: Philadelphia Phillies League: MLB Reason for Update: Too much for too little The old Phillies logo is just too busy for no reason. I got rid of the baseball field outline and the underline. C&C Apperciated. Next team will be the Mets so stay tuned!

NHL March Madness - Final(ly) Matchup Posted!

Breakdown of how this thread will work: Each division will be revealed one at a time. Teams will be seeded (and uniforms revealed) as they stand in the division as of 3/12/18. 2 teams will be revealed each day as we lead up to the beginning of the NHL playoffs. Once every team's uniform within a division is unveiled, a Top-3 vote will commence among the viewers of this thread. Voting will be open for 48-hours. A #1 overall vote will be worth 3 points, #2 vote worth 2 points, and #3 vote worth 1 point Once votes are casted for each division and are determined final, the team with the most awarded points will advance to the Final Four. In the event of a tie, tiebreaker will be the amount of #1 votes received. After the four division winners are determined, a new set of alternate uniforms will be unveiled Teams will be re-seeded according to how many points they received in the preliminary round Voting will then commence to determine which teams advance to the March Madness Final, and the two winning teams will be put up for a vote to determine the champion. For reference, here are the standings from 3/12/18 so you are aware of the original seeding: We will begin with unveiling the Central Division! #1 Seed: Nashville Predators #2 Seed: Winnipeg Jets As always, C&C is appreciated (all teams are completed fwiw). Let the madness begin!
  20. I am fascinated, like many others, with failed expansion and relocation of big league sports teams. While I am aware of most from the MLB and NBA, there's still a lot I don't know about the NFL and NHL failed bids. I thought this thread would be a fun place to share some of those failed expansion and relocated teams. If there are any proposed logos, uniforms, etc. please share those! MLB St. Louis Browns failed move to Los Angeles (1941) San Diego Padres failed move to Washington (1974) San Francisco Giants failed moves to Toronto (1975) and St. Petersburg (1992) NFL Los Angeles Rams failed move to Baltimore (1994) The failed Seattle Kings expansion (1976) The failed St. Louis Stallions, Baltimore Bombers, Memphis Hound Dogs expansion (1995) NBA Sacramento Kings failed move to Anaheim (2011) and Seattle (2012) Charlotte Hornets failed move to Memphis (2001) The failed Anaheim and Toronto expansion (1988/89) NHL St. Louis Blues failed move to Saskatoon (1983) Nashville Predators failed move to Hamilton (2007) The failed Hampton Roads Rhinos expansion (1997)

    Arizona Coyotes Concept Update

I've been looking through my first concepts I had made, Just to compare them with what I'm creating now. I came across the first hockey concept I posted here, an idea for the Coyotes., and yeah, it was pretty bad. Inconsistent Striping, No TV Numbers, Phantom Yokes, and many other execution errors. Looking at it, I decided that I needed to update it. I didn't keep much from the first attempt, but the striping pattern is derived from the sleeve stripes on my earlier concept. I then made the striping consistent across the uniform, removed the phantom yoke, changed the collar, and got rid of the logo mashup. The away features a yoke and the same striping pattern recoloured. I don't know why I wanted brown as the primary colour, so I made two versions, one with my colour scheme, and the other with their current scheme. Version 1 (My Colour Scheme) Version 2 (Current Colour Scheme) C&C is appreciated!
  22. Every once in a while I come across a certain logo or color palette or design theme that gets my creative juices pumping like a Vitamix. A good creative vibe if you will. And when that vibe comes it lasts for a period that isn't short enough to let go by and isn't long enough to make a full hoopla out of. That can be very frustrating, so I started this thread as a casual release for whatever cool ideas pop into my head at any given moment without having to commit to a full series. AKA my version of a dump. And the vibe that has really caught my fancy as of late, is the sweet, sweet, dark comedy, creativity, and innovation that is a Great Depression era rubber hose animation cartoon. What's rubber hose animation, you might ask? Simply the original style of animating cartoon characters where their limbs look like, rubber hoses. Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse, Popeye, and Cuphead are a few examples. I freakin' love that style, and thought, for what reason I'm not sure, that it'd be cool to transfer that style over to NHL Merchandise. Posters, Tees, etc. There's a newfound appreciation for those pioneering cartoons that has led to 21st century video game odes Bendy and Cuphead. So why not just for fun experiment and see what the heritage-minded NHL could do to implement the style into merch? After all 1930s cartoons and 1930s hockey have a lot in common, they're both dark, violent, entertaining, timeless, ...racist, but I digress. They have more in common than seems at first glance. And with the rubber hose stock at a surging high, I wanted to pounce on some exercises involving my fascination with both it and hockey. So here it is: So to start out, I knew I had to do something involving the Ducks, after all the team's owned by Disney, and since Wild Wing is a prime name for an classic cartoon character, I decided to make a poster along the lines of a 1930's theatre cartoon poster. I got most of my inspiration from examples like these: And voila, here it is! Wild Wing (modeled after the original Donald Duck, again Disney ties, with leather goalie pads and hockey sweater) starring in "Ducks in a R.O.W."! I'd love to hear you guys' ideas on how to flesh this out even further, as there will be some more to come, but for now what do you think of the first poster? Thanks for watching, that's all folks!
  23. I'm sure most of you are aware of the reputation that Comic Sans has in the design community, but for those who are unaware, it's regarded as one of the worst, most amateur fonts you can use. I'm sure less of you are aware of its usage in memes and s**tposting, often being used ironically to create humor by intentionally using it to mock it. With my combined interest in both of those, I one day had the bright idea of redesigning NHL logos that make use of text or a letterform, but use Comic Sans. Let's start out with a bang.
  24. So..."Biggest upgrades" and "Biggest downgrades" are already a thing on here. I figured I may as well start the only remaining thread in the series. In your opinion, which uniforms kept the quality close to the same level as their predecessors? For me the classic example would be the lateral move made by the Denver Broncos in 1997. They went from good uniform to good uniform (in my opinion anyway) while changing the dark jersey color and radically altering their design. The 1996 Philadelphia Eagles were similar - big changes, but all in all went from middling to middling. If there is a bad-to-bad lateral move...that one's a little trickier. I'm sure someone can fill us in though.
  25. I didnt think these were worthy of two separate threads, but a VERY SIMPLE graphic i made for the playoffs. Each box gets filled in after a win, as you can see with the NHL after 1 game for each. The teams facing off are across from each other, its a race to fill in the triangle in the middle, claiming the majority, making you move on. In the larger hexagon they are in, the two teams that get the triangles that are touching will get to face off in the next round. Simple. I always wanted to see one like this as opposed to the wild designs like the filling in of the rink. Itd be cool if there were some kind of comments/suggestions but theres no need as this isnt really a "concept" NHL day 3 NBA Day 1
