  1. NHL 2017-18

I thought it would be wise to create a separate thread for next season. What we know: -Adidas is taking over the production of the on-ice jerseys. Fanatics will produce the retail jerseys. -Alternate jerseys will not be worn during the 2017/18 season. -Edmonton Oilers will promote their orange 3rd jersey to full-time home status. Rumors: -New Jersey Devils are reported to have a redesign in store. -Washington Capitals are rumored to be returning to the retro jerseys full time. *edit- also if a mod could move the posts from the 2016/17 thread to this one, that would be cool.
  2. I searched through threads for the past year and couldn't find anything like this, so I figured I would post it. The idea behind this thread is to post interesting facts or statistics that a lot of people don't know. It'll essentially be the answers to trivia questions. I've got two interesting ones to start this thread off. The Minnesota Vikings were the first team to kick an extra point from the 15-yard line. Tom Brady has played two games at University of Phoenix Stadium, but he has never played the Cardinals there. The Pats have played two Super Bowls there, but only played the Cardinals at home since the stadium was built.
  3. Nashville Predators concept

Pretty simple, straight forward fix for the Predators. Their Adidas unis are a bit bland, and my goal here was to bring a little more life to them. C&C appreciated!
  4. Welcome to what is now my first completed concept series, the NHL City Mashup Series! In this series, I will be taking the identity of each NHL team and combining it with the identity of another team (different sport) in that team's city. Some rules I set for myself were Team must be in either the MLB, NBA, NFL, MLS, or CFL. The jersey must be in the style of the NHL team's jersey. The other team's colours will be the ones on the jersey. The fonts should be either the official team's font or a close matching font. Teams: Anaheim Ducks (Angels) Arizona Coyotes (Cardinals) Boston Bruins (Celtics) Buffalo Sabres (Bills) Calgary Flames (Stampeders) Carolina Hurricanes (Charlotte Hornets) Chicago Blackhawks (Cubs) Colorado Avalanche (Nuggets) Columbus Blue Jackets (Crew) Dallas Stars (Cowboys) Detroit Red Wings (Tigers) Edmonton Oilers (Eskimos) Florida Panthers (Heat) Los Angeles Kings (Dodgers) Minnesota Wild (Twins) Montreal Canadiens (Expos) Nashville Predators (Titans) New Jersey Devils (Jets) New York Islanders (Nets) New York Rangers (Knicks) Ottawa Senators (Redblacks) Philadelphia Flyers (Eagles) Pittsburgh Penguins (Pirates) San Jose Sharks (49ers) St Louis Blues (Cardinals) Tampa Bay Lightning (Buccaneers) Toronto Maple Leafs (Raptors) Vancouver Canucks (Whitecaps) Vegas Golden Knights (Raiders) Washington Capitals (Wizards) Winnipeg Jets (Blue Bombers) without further adieu, here's the first mashup, the Anaheim Angels in the style of the Anaheim Ducks. (Yes, I am aware they aren't the Anaheim Angels, but heck with that) C&C is appreciated! I am also considering doing throwback jerseys for each mashup, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the idea.
  5. Habs'ing the NHL (St. Louis added)

So this is one of a couple concept ideas I've had in my head. We're always talking about Original 6 Dress up and that got reignited when Florida redid their uniforms which bear a resemblance to Montreal's so it made me wonder, what would the league look like if every team had a chest stripe like the Habs. It's a fairly simple idea, and each team will have something unique about them. It won't be just a Montreal jersey template in Vegas colors. For the moment I have no plans on doing alternates for the teams, but I plan on doing the special event games and the all star tournament, but we'll see how this goes and I might throw in alternates. I also wanted to do these on an Adidas template, but I didn't have it ready in time, so I used the closest Reebok collar I had to the Adidas ones and rolled from there. I'm going from bottom to top based on final regular season standings, so if you want to see how this will go, go here (https://www.nhl.com/standings) and you can follow along. With that being said, I have the first two teams ready, Colorado and Vancouver. For the Avalanche, I tried to make a mountain-style chest stripe but it didn't work out how I wanted it to so I used the old alternates as inspiration for a stripe and then added the mountain pattern on the bottom hem I ditched the Orca for the Canucks, using the stick in the rink, and the Johnny + V logo. Used the stripes from the alternate, which is consistent throughout to the pants and the socks. Kept the one color numbers. C&C welcome on these two
  6. We have the Players in the "Wrong" Uniforms thread and within that thread I've seen a few "Right Team, Wrong Uniform" entries. I thought I'd separate the two, because it is an interesting topic of its' own. Here are a few to start the thread off with ... Charles Barkley, Preseason 1992, Phoenix Suns Matt Hasselbeck, 2001, Seattle Seahawks Jeff Bagwell, 1992, Houston Astros.
  7. Updated Detroit Red Wings Logo

Hi all, As many of you know, the Detroit Red Wings logo is the oldest logo in the NHL right now. As sacrilegious as this sounds, I decided to modernize/refresh the look of the Red Wings' classic logo quite a bit. Some of the new updates would include: 1. A New Wheel: The most prominent difference is the updated wheel, reflecting a modern car wheel cover. Additionally, the cap now showcases the rarely used alternate "D" logo. 2. Updated/Significant Wings and Feathers: On the current logo, the feathers are relatively rough and hard to replicate on merchandise. I decided to smoothen out the feathers on the wings, while also adding a bit of significance to the feathers too. If you take a look, the back feathers contain 11 "dents", representing the 11 stanley cups the team has won. 3. Minor smoothing: Rougher/inconsistent edges are smoothened out and evened. 4. New Font: The current font used by the Red Wings reflects the same font as the former home, Joe Louis Arena. In order to reflect the change into the new arena, I updated the serif for the team as well. This is a bit rough, but tell me what y'all think if the Red Wings chose to do this? OLD: NEW:
  8. NHL Concepts- NHL17 style

This is just some uniforms i came up with. Some are just random teams, some are based on real teams and also how i wish their uniforms were. This is my first time posting concepts, so just ignore the format i have them in, i will change it as time passes. Im also aware that the photos are blurry, just bare with me please. C&C is appreciated
  9. City Mashups (NBA,NHL,NFL,MLB)

I'm not sure how exactly it started, but months back I was wondering how certain logos might look if that city had all their teams with similar colours, so I decided to do a mashup of all the teams in the major 4 pro sports leagues. Meaning how might the Boston Celtics look with Bruins colours and vice-versa. For the most part the early criteria is that they need to have the same city name(EX-Toronto Blue Jays/Raptors/Leafs). So even if some might be in same city(like Oakland A's and Golden State Warriors) I didn't do those ones just to save some time. If people want me to do more, then let me know and I'll do more. Ones like NY,LA,Chicago who have many teams, I might do later. Some I skipped because their primary logo is just too plain for this to really work(such as Indians and Pirates logo where the logo is basically just a letter). A fair amount I also didn't do if I felt the colour swap wasn't so noticeable and was nothing more than a slight difference in colour tone(EX-Washington teams red/blue). Some swaps I find look nice(like ones attached here) while others not so much(O's under Ravens colours, Bengals under Reds colours ect.), but I still did them just to see how they all look. If there are other requests you would like for me to do or see some that are missing, feel free to post it here and I'll do my best to complete it. My next project might just be colour swapping current/past logos of a teams history for those who have had notable changes, such as Brewers,Stars among others.
  10. The recent Adidas reveal inspired me to start up a new series. Its been some time since I last did a concept. So, knocking off some ring rust in the first few. Edmonton Oilers Promoted the previous third while making some minor changes. Kept the current colors. Added third that is something I can see the team bringing in the near future.
  11. Inspired by @Bpoe96's series, I'm back at it again, with a new series: NHL Identity Swap. In this set of concepts, I'll be taking the logo and jersey style of one team and implementing it on others. I'm really not much of a logo designer, so this series should be a challenge to me. First off: the EDMONTON OILERS with the style of the NEW JERSEY DEVILS. The Devils' home jersey has basic striping, where a thick stripe in their secondary colour of black is outlined by two stripes of white. It's repeated on the away sweater, only the white and black are swapped, creating an unbalance between the two sweaters, which I've implicated with the Edmonton colour scheme. It's not a far shot from Edmonton's current set. New Jersey's logo consists of a red devil's tail with the initials NJ sticking out, balanced out by a black circle. For Edmonton, I trimmed an E into the shape of the Oilers' biggest symbol, an oil drop, and put it on a blue circle. C&C Appreciated!
  12. A Few Hockey Concepts

In large part because of the HJC Open, I have a few extra concepts lying around on my hard drives, so I'd might as well post them here, too. The first one is a Minnesota Wild "redesign", which is more or less just an "ideal look" or a "fix" to their uniforms. Nothing special here if I'm being honest. Next up, a Colorado Avalanche concept, where my idea was to take the full length shoulder yoke they already use, but put a mountain design cutting into it about halfway down the sleeves. If that doesn't make sense, just look below. I also replaced the black with navy blue, though outside of the pants and gloves it only appears in the logo. The next one is a New York Islanders set where I tried to bring back teal. On the home and road sets I only used it as an accent color, and in large part kept the striping faithful to their current look. The logos are a bit of a departure, though. For the alt, I went all-out teal and even used a wave pattern on the hem. Next is a very slightly revised Penguins' concept that I actually posted as an alternate in another thread of mine a few months ago, but here it is again on a different template and with slight revisions. I think my design decisions should be spelled out on the image for the most part. Last, and possibly my favorite of the bunch, is a Blue Jackets concept. After seeing another Jackets concept, I thought that the Jackets may be one of the few teams that vintage white would fit well with, so I went with it. The striping is inspired by the Ohio flag, which isn't the most innovative for the Jackets, but I really like the way this turned out, and I'm surprised it didn't look any more basic than this. The typeface was also custom formed by myself based on the one inside of their alternate roundel, since their new Adidas typeface hasn't really been seen in enough detail to trace or re-create yet. That's all I have for now, but I should be posting a Sherbrooke Phoenix concept pretty soon once I finish it. C&C appreciated!
  13. NHL Football Uniform Designs *Atlantic Division Added*

Thought it would be cool to see what NHL branding would look like on the Nike Vapor Untouchable Template. Leave comments and requests below! First up... The Pacific Division LA Kings San Jose Sharks Edmonton Oilers Phoenix Coyotes Anaheim Ducks Calgary Flames Vancouver Canucks
  14. Here's a quick concept for the Columbus Blue Jackets I have put together... The two primaries are a breath of fresh air, as they are based around the striping of the Ohio flag, pay homage to Ohio's first NHL team (Cleveland Barons) and incorporate other design elements the team has used to date such as: Current name/number font Cuff design with the stars at the wrist Simplified hemline and logo usage The home's hanger effect reads "March On", and the road has a new "Columbus Blue Jackets" word mark created by me in a previous project... The alternate is a classy change of pace from the two primaries, featuring an all-blue look with minimal red accents...
  15. Strange Anaheim Mighty Ducks Jersey

So I was at Plato's Closet yesterday and found a rather interesting Anaheim Mighty Ducks jersey. It looks VERY authentic, even including a fight strap. Everything sewn onto the jersey is very high quality, but there's something off about it, and that's the main color of the jersey. It's actually maroon instead of the purple that the Ducks used. Could this maybe be a prototype, or could they have possibly used a base for an Avalanche jersey at the factory by accident? You be the judge...

  17. Newbie NHL Redesign +Stars added

Hello. I am an animator and video editor and I have been working on and off on a logo redesign project for the better part of a year now (with long stretches of inactivity) as a way to get better at illustrator and I thought I would make an account here for some critique. I started really getting in to logo design when I came across a black and white and horribly pixelated design for a Fleur De Lis that I thought could be made into a St. Louis Blues logo, and after contacting the owner of the shop and asking about it and if I could mess with it, I did. I didn't really think it worked well as a main logo, but I did think it worked as a shoulder patch. I did it in a couple other colors as well and took the wordmark from the actual St. Louis Blues sheet music after an idea from the kind folks on the Blues subreddit. Over a year later I thought I decided I needed to get better at illustrator so I started designing alternate/shoulder logos for the rest of the league. I'm "done" with about 1/4 of the league at this point. Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear suggestions on what I need to improve on, but keep in mind I dont really know what I am doing. Also, if there is a better way to format this let me know. St. Louis Original: Wordmark: Colors: Revision: I did Minnesota next, where I thought a roundel logo would look cool. I did two variants of the same logo and one that was a riff on their main logo. 1: 2: 3: Colorado This one I actually think could stand up as a main logo. I got rid of their ugly "Millennium swoops' Winnipeg Classic colors: Modern Colors: Toronto: based on the city of Toronto's flag Ottowa: I wanted to play off their older logo that everyone loves so much without just making it an exact copy Revision: Buffalo: I took the crossed swords from their red logo days and put them behind the skull I drew. Penguins: I replaced the iconic triangle with a Pennsylvania keystone. Hopefully that doesn't make me a heretic. Revision: I put the penguin in a complete keystone and I like it, but I still think the half keystone looks better. Lightning: Honestly something's missing from this one, but everything I add makes it look worse so I decided to ask you all what you think. the L works pretty good but it seems empty. Again, these aren't really meant to replace the logo front of the jersey, most are meant to be shoulder patches, but this one feels empty. Wordmark: I thought trying to make it a wordmark would work a little bit better, and it does in some aspects, but it feels really empty still. Canadiens: I took the Fleur from the Montreal flag and tried to turn it in to an "M"which I think works pretty well, but I do think it needs some more polishing. I don't really like this better than their current logo but I think something like it could work as a shoulder patch 1: 2: Stars: I took their old star logo and updated the colors and added a recolored Texas flag. Then I removed the wordmark and had the star go through the middle of a D in the same style as the other letters 1: 2: I'm still working on my Blues Fluer de Lis, but I am pretty excited for what I have in the works for the Wings.
  18. I've prepared some NHL concepts where I try and refresh team branding and uniforms. I'm trying to make the rest of the league fall more in line with what I've come to expect from Adidas. All teams get *some* sort of change from their current (Reebok) uniforms, although a few don't see much change at all (ie. Flyers, Leafs). I will accept C&C but I don't plan on making revisions to the uniforms unless I really feel compelled. I will be adding "Marquee Matchups" where teams use special uniforms. This is where C&C would be most useful, in suggesting matchups, uniforms, revisions, etc. I will use this first post as a HUB for the concepts: Metropolitan Battle of New York (NYI v NYR) Keystone Classic (PHI @ PIT) Stevens' Cup (WAS + MIN @ NJD) Ohio Classic (PIT @ CBJ) Atlantic Tribute (NJD v PHI) All-American Clash (STL v NYR) Atlantic Battle of Ontario (TOR v OTT) Governor's Cup (FLA v TBL) All-American Clash (WAS v DET) International Classic (BOS @ MTL) Norris Cup (CHI v DET) Hartford Classic (CAR v BUF) Central All-American Clash (NSH v COL) International Classic (VAN @ CHI) All-American Clash (MIN v STL) Battle of Wisconsin (MIN v CHI) All-Canadian Clash (TOR v WPG) Star Series (MIN v DAL) Pacific California Series (ANA + SJS @ LAK) Battle of Alberta (CGY v EDM) Battle of the Desert (ARI v VGK) Marquee of '93 (FLA v ANA) All-American Clash (VGK v LAK) Pacific Territories (SJS v VAN)
  19. NHL Preds, Sens & Ducks

With all the new stuff happening in the NHL, here's a few ideas to kick around...
  20. Vegas Golden Knights Wallpapers

I'd like to share these Golden Knights wallpapers I've made for my fan account. Hopefully by posting these here they can get in the hands of like minded creatives and fellow VGK fans. Mobile versions can be found at http://vivavgk.deviantart.com/gallery/
  21. Overall, I'd say that the transition from Reebok to Adidas has been positive for most teams in the NHL. But some teams took a step backwards...so here is my attempt to fix their errs. First up: Nashville What they unveiled: Too minimized for my liking. Here's my take: C&C appreciated. I probably won't get to every single team in the league, most likely just a handful of them that actually need changes to perfect their current sets. Buffalo is next!
  22. AHL "NHL Night" uniforms (29/30)

Most AHL teams have adopted their parent clubs' identities and many are pretty close to it. I wanted to try and embrace that by creating the "NHL Night" promotion for AHL teams, where they look back into their parent clubs' uniform histories and make a past look their own. When creating this, I figured this promotion could be like a Sunday promotion, or since division teams play each other 8-11 times, they could use one of those matchups as an "NHL Night." Some AHL teams get crazy with alternates, so what's one more to the mix? Starting with the Atlantic Division, here are the Bridgeport Sound Tigers modeled after the 1978-1995 New York Islanders. We all know how much they like reminding us about the four cups they won in the 80s, so why not make their AHL club wear the unis they did it in. *Logos from sportslogos.net, template from the concept resources on the boards, and nhluniforms.com for jersey references.
  23. NHL Outdoor Games Ideas

This is Where I will post my concepts for potential Outdoor Games that I think the NHL should consider, and will even write mini proposals We start off with a crazy idea I has for a Florida outdoor game, a stadium series probably. First off, it would take place in Raymond James Stadium (the Bucs home), which in the winter can go down to as low as 40 F, perfect to sustain ice for a perfect amount of time. With some nice planning, this would not be much of a hassle. As to why to do this you ask? These two teams are very unknown and do not have any attention going to them. A NBCSN game and outdoor game in Florida would attract much press attention. Also although I do not agree with most southern market NHL teams, I feel that Tampa Bay has a very passionate fan base and does deserve this. Now for the aesthetics of it, the Florida Panthers whole theming would be around the sun and heat, as they do represent most of Florida and many of their logos do indeed. For this I made the Panthers uniforms have the rays of the sun on the bottom stripe as well as more red and yellow then usual. The Lightnings uniform have the grey color of storm clouds, using all 4 of their colors rather then just 2. For the actual presentation of the arena the arena would be set up with palm trees all around the outskirts similar Minnesota's pine tree display. There would be a small picture above the arena of a sun facing off against a storm, pushing against one another. This would be between the logos. When the Bolts come out lightning coils will activate as they walk in. When the Panthers walk in fire will erupt followed by gold-ish smoke. Worst case scenario it all melts. Also I feel its only appropriate to have both team goal horns go off. Any Ideas for the next one?
  24. Kansas City Scouts Concept

This was my semi-quarterfinals entry into the HJC Open, and I did a concept for the Kansas City Scouts. The Scouts jerseys were good for their era, but IMO had way too busy of a striping pattern. My goals for this concept were to simplify the pattern, and to give them a distinct look, and to improve the colour balance. The striping pattern consists of a large stripe with a thin one inside of it, and two slightly larger stripes both above and below the large stripe. I used the KC logo as it is by far the best logo in their set. C&C is appreciated!
  25. Good evening CCSLC! Now, I do believe that this is attempt number three at redesigning the NHL. However, I am determined to actually finish this time. Unlike other failed attempts, wherein I would design one concept, post, wait for C&C and then move on, this time I've actually completed almost half of the NHL in preparation. I've been working on this project for the past month or so, I've really been having a lot of fun with it and I'm moving at a pretty steady pace so I feel as though I can actually make it through the league. What I really wish for this thread is a lot of active discussion, comments, and critique so that I may hone my skills at designing. I'd like to keep this organized, so I'll get started with some guidelines of what I'll be posting. Also, as a note: I haven't found an Adidas template compatible with the program I use (PAINT.net) so I chose to simply use the Reebok Edge template found in the Paint Users Paradise thread. I have, however, added an Adidas tag to the inside that I drew up. Outline All teams I complete will have some alteration to their logo and/or color scheme that I will point out with each concept. Note: These changes could be as small as a color adjustment to a complete logo overhaul. I will only be posting two uniforms per team: Home (color), Away (white) No team will use more than two logos. This is pretty standard in the NHL. However, we do see teams with all kinds of logos with their set. If I include a logo in the set, it will appear on the uniform. I see no need to include more since this is simply a logo/uniform project and not a complete identity project. NHL shield logos will be recolored in respective team colors. Teams will be posted in no real order, simply which concept I would like comments on at that time. Please, no comments just requesting the next team. Some critique on the concept would be appreciated. Okay, first up: ARIZONA COYOTES - 4.3.17 Logos: I really loved the Coyotes inaugural set. The kachina pattern was very unique to the team and even though it made it's debut in the 90s, it wasn't a concept that was overbearing or gaudy. However, and, as unpopular an opinion it may be, I really like Arizona's current logo and uniform set. I have made some changes to the logo, though. Replacing black is a darker brick red and I have turquoise to the color scheme, drawing inspiration from the art of the Pueblo which is wherein the initial kachina pattern derived. The alternate 'A' paw logo underwent no changes other than, of course, the color scheme. Uniforms: Again, the kachina pattern was my favorite part of the Coyotes inaugural set. The logo to me was fine, but I actually like the current better. I tried my hand at a custom kachina pattern that is only adorned on the hem as I thought that adding it the the sleeves as well made it a bit busy. If you look closely, you'll notice that within the pattern are crossed hockey sticks in the darker brick red color. The shoulders stripes are very loosely based on the current uniforms. Thanks for checking these out! C&C is greatly appreciated!
