  1. Hello. I am an animator and video editor and I have been working on and off on a logo redesign project for the better part of a year now (with long stretches of inactivity) as a way to get better at illustrator and I thought I would make an account here for some critique. I started really getting in to logo design when I came across a black and white and horribly pixelated design for a Fleur De Lis that I thought could be made into a St. Louis Blues logo, and after contacting the owner of the shop and asking about it and if I could mess with it, I did. I didn't really think it worked well as a main logo, but I did think it worked as a shoulder patch. I did it in a couple other colors as well and took the wordmark from the actual St. Louis Blues sheet music after an idea from the kind folks on the Blues subreddit. Over a year later I thought I decided I needed to get better at illustrator so I started designing alternate/shoulder logos for the rest of the league. I'm "done" with about 1/4 of the league at this point. Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear suggestions on what I need to improve on, but keep in mind I dont really know what I am doing. Also, if there is a better way to format this let me know. St. Louis Original: Wordmark: Colors: Revision: I did Minnesota next, where I thought a roundel logo would look cool. I did two variants of the same logo and one that was a riff on their main logo. 1: 2: 3: Colorado This one I actually think could stand up as a main logo. I got rid of their ugly "Millennium swoops' Winnipeg Classic colors: Modern Colors: Toronto: based on the city of Toronto's flag Ottowa: I wanted to play off their older logo that everyone loves so much without just making it an exact copy Revision: Buffalo: I took the crossed swords from their red logo days and put them behind the skull I drew. Penguins: I replaced the iconic triangle with a Pennsylvania keystone. Hopefully that doesn't make me a heretic.
  2. It's starting to sound more and more like the Rangers and Sabres are going to face off in the 2018 Winter Classic. Here's my take on what they should wear for the event.
  3. This is my first concept, so I wanted to keep it relatively simple. This was all done on Microsoft Paint so bear with me. Literally all I did was remove the disgusting silver from the Logo and Uniforms. Let me know what you think C&C appreciated
  4. The Kings miniseries went so well, I'm doing it again, this time with the Penguins! Like last time, I'm taking various styles the Pens have worn in their history, and sort of jumbling up which logos and colors are used, and also giving the Pens a suitable opponent and giving them similar treatment. Here's the itinerary: 60s Night: vs Rangers 70s Night: vs. Barons Blue Jackets 80s Night: vs Capitals 90s Night: vs Sabres 2K Night: vs Senators possible bonus nights: 90s Alt Night (TBD), Pittsburgh Hornets Night (likely vs. Flyers) So without further ado, 60s Night vs. the New York Rangers As is already known, what's old is new again as the Pens return to yellow gold...and here, the Pens' jersey uses the striping from the original set from 1966, only in the current colors. Took a little liberty by using shoulder crests at all...and now to the Broadway Blueshirts, whose set is red-heavy...because I felt like giving you something to complain about Seriously, though, picking a 60s opponent was tricky. I didn't want to dip into the opposite conference if I can help it, I don't want to use a given opponent more than once, and given these are for THIS season, the opponent kinda needs to be a current NHL team, albeit the history being dipped into doesn't necessarily need to be from the NHL (I'm leaning towards Blues and Stars series after this one, and I'm likely gonna dip into the WHA and a southern minor league or two). Far as the 60s go, the only Original 6 teams that look noticeably different from how they do now are the Leafs and Bruins, and not by a whole lot. Hell, I'm mildly surprised I was able to squeeze anything out of the Rangers, given how rarely they've strayed from their diagonal script. Later on, 70s Night vs. the Blue Jackets as the Barons...til then, speak on it.
  5. I'll be real with you guys, I've been a bit lacking in inspiration for the last couple months....but I think that'll end here. My own laziness couldn't stop me...and PC issues could only stop me briefly I give you the Isles! The main thing I set out to do here was bring back the four stripes and incorporate them into the sleeve and hem stripes. The alt...I'd initially intended for the Islanders script to be larger. The way I wound up leaving things, though, I felt the stripes superseded any need for a crest. Kinda like the Canucks' flying V.
  6. Apologies if this was already posted http://www2.tsn.ca/bardown/Story.aspx?Proposed%2band%2brejected%2bBuffalo%2bSabres%2blogos%2bfor%2btheir%2bmid-90s%2brebrand&id=576051
  7. Good evening everyone! Here is a Buffalo Sabers concept set for hopefully a new era of hockey in a city of Buffalo. The Sabers have seen not much recent success, and with hopefully a new face of the franchise the uniforms could use a refresh as well. I like the look of these, if any of you have suggestions I would love to here them. C&C always appreciated.

  9. So awhile back, I was looking at an old alternate logo for the Buffalo Sabres. It was the one with the crossed swords on the circle that they used from 2000/01 to 2005/06. I thought of a way to simplify the logo, and also incorporate the current colors. I'm open to criticism, tell me what you think.https://www.dropbox.com/s/vvg4nxi9ilgauzx/Sabres%20Alt.%20Logo%20Concept.png?dl=0
  10. This is only my second concept and the first one I'm posting. I'd love to hear ways you think this design could improve. I always felt that despite having some exceptional logos, the Buffalo Sabers have always had lackluster unis. He's my concept for a new alternate jersey, because basically anything is better than their current one. I drew some inspiration from their vintage looking alternate from 2010-2011 and tried to combine in with a sleeker look from their buffa-slug days. I came up with the crest by combining a former shoulder patch, which I slightly re-colored and placed atop their traditional golden ring. Hope you dig it - Nick Empirical Designs
  11. I worked on this concept at the start of the season and never really thought to post it. Of course, this is why Vanek's name and number are featured on the jerseys. The third jersey is getting worn for the first time tomorrow, so in order to keep my sanity as a Sabres fan I decided to show what I think the team should look like. The striping pattern is a fusion of the mismatched striping that used to be on the whites.
  12. I just saw this photo, and instantly noticed the advertising patch on the practice jersey Is this new? Are other teams doing it? Has this been going on for a while and I simply missed it? I know the NFL started, so I suppose it was inevitable, but it's still awful to see. As long as it's not on the game jerseys...I guess...
  13. I removed everything that people hate about it, substracted the generic numbers, and replaced them with the new ones from the yellow alternates. That new script/font, along with the captain's patch are the only good things to come from that jersey, and I decided to take those newly introduced elements, and roll with them. As for Miller being captain, I borrowed the "3" and the letters from the someone else's concept and made the best "0" and "M" I possibly could. I'm just waiting for the font to be released somewhere, so that I can make the adjustment of using the name/number of the real captain...
  14. Okay, after putting my review for the Sharks I spent the last hour or so creating a mockup of what I would have done with Sharks if they gave me the opportunity. I know they wanted to listen to their fans while retaining some burnt orange, but the one stripe looks silly. If they are going to keep the orange anywhere on the sweater this would be a better way to go: But if it was me, here's what I would do if if the players didn't want helm striping. I took the orange, threw it up and sent it to Ducks Okay that really didn't make any sense. Anyway, got rid of the orange. Replaced it with a gray/silver. I also made the teal more teal-ish and lightened it. Used the diamond fin logo but with the lighter teal one-color wave with white cap and gray sky.
  15. My concept of the new Sabres alternate: http://s767.photobucket.com/user/HockeyJerseyConcepts/media/HJC%20Open%20-%20R2/Austin_zps60c7ec1d.png.html?t=1374108611 BTW you can vote for it (Austin) in the HJC Open here: http://www.hockeyjerseyconcepts.com/p/hjc-open_23.html Comments? 16. ESPN recently made a 30 for 30 Shorts video about Clint Malarchuk and his life after hockey. For those who don't know, Malarchuk was a Buffalo Sabres goalie who had his neck sliced open by a skate blade. I found this short film to be very interesting to watch, and I learned a lot about Malarchuk. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9319085/clint-malarchuk-20-year-road-recovery-latest-30-30-documentary-series
  17. Hi, I haven't posted any concepts on this forum before so here`s my first crack at it. I simply updated the Buffalo Sabres logo by fine-tuning all of the lines. I know that the actual Sabres sword is more popular and I will get working on that soon. But in the meantime let me know what you think. (I've posted the current Sabres logo for you to compare the difference)
