(UPDATE 5/4/18) NHL uniforms done on NHL '18

    - I still haven't come around to getting any good at doing jersey concepts via templates so I decided to do my project on NHL '18. - Due to the limited amounts of jersey styles, not all of these designs are 100% how I would have them if I had complete control over those aspects. - I have things pretty close to where I'd like them, and I will leave notes explaining any instance in which I would have liked something a bit different. - I didn't do every team in the league, only those that I felt had really bad jersey layouts, or needed a color change / tweak. - I tried to eliminate white from most of the uniforms because I wanted to do things a bit different and white just seems like too easy of a security blanket to use. - Teams are in alphabetical order - - - - - ANAHEIM DUCKS (Edited 4/29/18) * Lightened the green / changed alternate to have more orange in it. * Made the lines thinner so that the away jersey wouldn't have a different thickness compared to the other two. (Edited 5/1/18) * Gave the alternate green in the glove, and on the helmet for the manufacturer name. (Edited 5/4/18) * Added white. * Due to adding white, I darkened the green. NOTES: - I have seen at least 2, maybe more concepts for the Ducks that have used green and orange. I tried to run with that, and create a new identity for Anaheim. PROBLEMS DUE TO THE LACK OF OPTIONS IN THE GAME: - The teams original logo is not available to use in customization, so I wasn't able to play around with that and was forced to use their current "Webbed D". - I tried implementing white into the Home and Alternate, but just couldn't really find the right fit. This may have been due to the limited jersey styles, and I couldn't quite get the thickness of the white lines that I wanted. ARIZONA COYOTES (Edited 5/1/18) * Added more of the dark red to the home with thin lines. * Gave the alternate a logo with the sand colored outline. (Edited 5/4/18) * Added white. NOTES: - I wanted to go with the sand color as the primary to give the Coyotes a unique look and go outside the norm. Some will probably argue that the alternate should be the home, but I like it this way. PROBLEMS DUE TO THE LACK OF OPTIONS IN THE GAME: - As with the Ducks, the teams original logo (the standing coyote) isn't available to customize, but I actually think the current logo fits nice with the way the jersey is set up here. BUFFALO SABRES NOTES: - For the Sabres, I wanted to create a new identity with the color scheme, while using the original logo to keep the team grounded in their history. - The colors of the "San Diego Rampage" were used. Dark blue, grey, and white. CALGARY FLAMES NOTES: - I brightened the red, and mellowed the yellow..... - The home jersey now features a yellow C - I wanted to alter the Flames because I hate the fact that they have now gone with a black C, and while I love the original jersey design and colors from the 80's (and before via the Atlanta Flames) through early 90's... I wanted to give my own spin on this classic look with different shades of the teams colors. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS NOTES: - I'm not a fan of the Blue Jackets current logo, jersey or color scheme (becoming the 5th team in the league to use red, white and blue), but since NHL 18 has this jersey (the old Might Ducks layout?) I thought it would fit their logo pretty well. - I smoothed out the logo some, trying to make it a little better. Maybe it's better? It's definitely different than before. PROBLEMS DUE TO THE LACK OF OPTIONS IN THE GAME: - There is only the one logo to chose from, and none of the custom logos made for a good Blue Jackets theme. Would have loved to use the cannon logo, but at the same time, that one wouldn't go so great with the jersey style. (Edited 5/4/18) * Revamped the entire jersey with more white on the home, thickened the lines on away to match. * Lightened the blue. FLORIDA PANTHERS NOTES: - Not a fan of the new 'Montreal-type' jerseys they went with, so I started messing around and found a style that I really liked. - I wanted to switch over to orange for the Panthers because well.... Florida Oranges! - I may go back and swap out the orange for the red that they use, I mean the Islanders and Oilers already use blue and orange, but I couldn't help myself here, I just love the shades I used, could just be me though. LOS ANGELES KINGS NOTES: - Pretty obvious here that I implemented purple back into the color scheme and changed the jersey style from the current one the team uses. MINNESOTA WILD NOTES: - Nothing to really say except since I don't really like the Wild's new "Montreal Style" jersey, I tried to give them a better, more balanced look. NEW JERSEY DEVILS NOTES: - There is just something about the Devil's uniforms that I don't like so I wanted to put my spin on things. - I went with the white logo on the home because I feel it balances out the entire uniform the way I have it set up... I'm not sure how this is going to go over though. - The alternate jersey feature a brighter red than the home and away. This jersey went over really well with Devil's fans on the Facebook hockey group I'm a part of. PROBLEMS DUE TO THE LACK OF OPTIONS IN THE GAME: - Back to the logo. I went with the white logo because of the balance. I wanted to have a thicker outline around the RED devil at first, but the game just didn't allow it. The outline that they do allow is just way too thin, and I couldn't find any look that was balanced. OTTAWA SENATORS NOTES: - I wanted to go for a look that would say the Senators are trying to be taken seriously from here on out, and want a brand refresh. I also didn't want to have more bright colored red (New Jersey, Calgary, Carolina, Detroit, Montreal, Chicago already have that *I left out Florida and Washington, because in my universe I have changed their colors), so I decided to go with a black home, and have the dark red as an alternate. - I chose the "O" logo because I felt it completed the overall look that I was going for. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS NOTES: - I'm a Flyers fan, and while I respect the fact that the team likes to pay homage to the old school Flyer teams, and manage to keep their jersey styles in that same sort of tradition... I don't think they use nearly enough black, especially for a team that the local media and fan-base call by one of their nicknames "the orange and black". Here is my take on what I would personally like to see... - I love the alternate I came up with, but I can also see if it doesn't go over too well due to the alternation of the logo. - I also changed the shade of orange, it's now less "traffic cone orange"... SAN JOSE SHARKS NOTES: - For the Sharks look, I went outside the norm here. For me, I love it. For probably most traditional people, they will probably hate it. - The jersey now becomes the background of the uniform, and the pants, gloves, helmet, and some of the logo become the focal point of the entire thing. This might bring jersey sales down, but I'm sure they could come up with some way to counter-balance that.... ST. LOUIS BLUES NOTES: - I really was just messing around with different combinations of blue and yellow, and this is what I settled on. I'm not a fan of the real life blues jersey, and I feel that these ones compliment the logo better, but I could be wrong. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING NOTES: - I wanted to get the Lightning away from the (pretty much) same shade of blue as the Maple Leafs. Not to mention they both only use blue and white. - Personally, the the blue might seem too "soft", but the way it's displayed in the game, it really pops. - I kept the jerseys as close to the same exact ones they real club uses. VANCOUVER CANUCKS NOTES: - Added a little more white to the uniform, and had put green around the logo, plus switched the jersey up a bit. - I kept trying the other logos and dark blue pants but ultimately decided this setup looked the best. WASHINGTON CAPITALS NOTES: - Got rid of the overused red white and blue scheme and took the Capitals back to the days of when they had blue and gold. - The "Weagle" didn't look right, and although the flying eagle has its flaws (only one leg) it still evokes movement and looks the best out of the game-supplied logos.

    San Jose Sharks Alternate Concepts

It's been quite some time. But here goes nothing. My first concept on CCSLC since Team Teal actually thought orange was a good idea. The info: Sharks are planning to go with a third jersey in 2018-19. Per an interview with the team's COO on one of my podcasts on my website, TealTownUSA.com (shameful plug), the team did a survey and found fans favored a black alternate jersey (as much as I have been emphasizing, you're known as Team Teal, go with it) (link to podcast below go to the 12:10 mark for the jersey talk) The Sharks original style jersey was incredibly popular (The Hockey News #1 NHL jersey of all time) then and now in San Jose especially with the recreation during the team's 25th anniversary, are shown here as the inspiration of a new look, but not completely going off the rails. The issue with the Sharks' black jerseys in the past was that the teal wasn't as noticeable in previous designs and look just black and white from a distance, especially in section 224 row 16 at the Shark Tank. So, like the team did when they unveiled "Sharkachu" and "Screaming Shark" logos, I added some color to it. This is the result Not going to lie, wanted to avoid the Starter black Sharks jersey that was popular in the mid 90's. It's similar to the design I submitted and eventually modified by the Sharks minor league squad, the Barracuda. I'll be looking forward to comments and criticism. And I may show off the designs that didn't make this look, perhaps the edited Screaming Shark biting a stick. All the best.
  3. Worked on this as entry in Uni Watch fauxback jersey contest. Modified my slight modification (Paint/MS Paint "friendly") of Sparky Chewbarky's sweater template to smaller hockey sweater dimensions more in keeping with the era depicted. Didn't submit this one after reading the area posted above "The Rules" regarding something to the effect that it needed to be original and not a knock-off (like the Rays were of the late 1970's Padres). Made up a fake history where the Oakland Clippers didn't move to Spokane but instead moved to San Jose, and drew up a chain stitched Sharks logo for the sweater. I modified the striping by making it a bit simpler and thicker so it wouldn't look like a direct knock-off of the Oakland/Spokane Clippers. So although I don't like it as much as the one above, the one below is what I entered: That about as good as I could do with the limited spare time I had and the even more limited artistic and computer graphic ability. If someone want to modify it, use some aspects of it to make something better, throw in their own take on the idea, etc., feel free.
  4. (Edit 12/30/16) Took a break for a couple days but I will get back to it soon to do some fixes on LA, and Washington for sure..maybe some others) I wanted to start a project that would get my creativity going, and kind of kick-start me back into the mood of graphic design. I decided to create my ideal NHL. (formerly "perfect", but nothings perfect) This is what I personally would change, or not change as far as teams logos are concerned. I accept all thoughts, ideas, proposed changes etc..... ******NOT ALL THESE DESIGNS ARE MINE.****** Some are obviously based on teams past and present logo archives. Some are from concepts created that I found online. I will recognize each and every aspect of a logo, or entire logos that are not mine, and give 100% credit where credit is due. Most teams have a current logo, and a source logo (the logo used for my inspiration to my own) I will explain the best I can how I came up with the thought behind each chosen logo. I know most of them are color changes, but remember..this started as a project to get me motivated back into graphic design. There will be more custom projects to follow ANAHEIM DUCKS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO USED FOR MY VERSION: MY VERSION: (ALTERED ORIGINAL MIGHTY DUCKS LOGO) - I wanted to revert back to the old Mighty Ducks logo because I think it's more recognizable than the current webbed "D", it has attitude, and I just like it a whole lot better. - I felt the original colors were good to use since they are very unique, but I also wanted to incorporate the more 'orangey' orange for the sticks and the whole "Orange County" reference. - I removed the shading from inside the holes for the mask. ARIZONA COYOTES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (REVERT BACK TO ORIGINAL PHOENIX COYOTES LOGO) - Pretty much the same thought process as the Ducks. I wanted the older logo because of its attitude. The new one just really really doesn't do anything for me. - I figure the old logo will do good with an updated jersey, with the use of the dark maroon, and off-white for striping. Keep the crazy amount of colors strictly to the logo itself. BOSTON BRUINS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ALTERED SHADE OF YELLOW) - Small change to the yellow. Made if more of a distinct yellow, instead of the often used "golden yellow" around the NHL. BUFFALO SABRES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGOS (2): MY VERSION: - I really enjoyed the outcome of this one. - I asked myself, how could I make such a non-photogenic animal appear menacing for the Sabres. I like the total idea of the swords and the buffalo, but something just wasn't fully there for me to love it. I decided to remove the heavy blue from inside the circle, changed it to white keeping the overall look that people love, but giving it a modern feel. - Some people may not like the light grey within the white, but I attempted to make the wordmark and buffalo blue, and it just didn't give the look I wanted. I like the slightly subliminal approach. To each his own I suppose. CALGARY FLAMES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (REMOVE BLACK OUTLINE) - Simply removed the black outline. Is it necessary at all??? CAROLINA HURRICANES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (MODIFIED) - Changed the center to a more simplistic design. - Thickened the silver outline. - I feel as though there is a slight sense of movement the way it is offset. Didn't think this logo needed a major overhaul, but at the same time...something was not right. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS (NO CHANGES MADE) COLORADO AVALANCHE CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (MODIFIED) - Removed the blue oval and thickened the outline. - I felt the oval took away from the sizing of the logo especially while on jerseys, and I felt that it really serves no purpose on a logo that isn't exactly symmetrical to begin with. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (SWITCH TO BLUE AND OFF-WHITE ALTERNATE) - I HATE everything about the current primary Columbus uses. They overused red, white and blue scheme. And the primary logo that belongs at an All-Star game, not anywhere else to represent a professional sports team. - In comes the alternate blue and off-white canncon logo. Along with the jerseys they use to sport this logo. In my opinion this brings the overall look of the Blue Jackets from absolute worst in the league, to the top. They couldn't switch to this style in real life fast enough if you ask me. DALLAS STARS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: **NOT MY DESIGN*** DESIGN CREDIT TO 'TORCH CREATIVE' MY VERSION: - I took the design from Torch Creative and changed the shade of yellow to a lighter version, getting away from the brown spectrum. - I really like the design those guys came up with, and I just can't stand the current one used by Dallas, just does not feel like a great concept to me. DETROIT RED WINGS (NO CHANGES MADE) EDMONTON OILERS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I darkened the blue, and added the copper color (once used by the team) as an outline for the orange. I think it adds a little bit extra, without taking away any of the classic aspects from the well known Oilers logo. FLORIDA PANTHERS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGOS: (2) MY VERSION: - Not a fan of the new Panthers logo, I set out to create something that I always wanted to see, the old panther, slightly less detailed, jumping out of the sun. - I mocked this up against their older red jerseys and this logo really pops! HARTFORD WHALERS (TEAM ADDED) (NO CHANGES TO LOGO) - One of the greatest logos of all time in any sport. I just had to have the Hartford Whalers back in my perfect NHL, what's not to love? - Used original (lighter) blue and green. LA KINGS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGOS: (2) MY VERSION: - I felt there were a ton better options than the current banner flag / shield thing the Kings have going on right now. (Even though they've had success with it) - I wanted purple back in the picture, along with the crown and the font from that era. - After messing around quite a bit, this modern shield is what I came up with. I'd prefer this on a black jersey. LAS VEGAS KNIGHTS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM:(ALL LEGAL ISSUES ASIDE) MY VERSION: - Added the 'Las' to Vegas because it's just better. - With the LA Kings change to purple for my project, I figured silver would be the best way to go for the Knights. The dark color is an EXTREMELY deep blue, almost black, and the unique shade of red outline reminds me of the Canucks when they went blue and red. At the same time this feels different to me. - Looks a ton better than the current mud in my opinion. MINNESOTA WILD (NO CHANGES MADE) MONTREAL CANADIENS (NO CHANGES MADE) NASHVILLE PREDATORS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: MY VERSION: - I wanted to get away from all the golden yellow parody in the NHL, so I chose to give Nashville a more mellow yellow. - I altered the sabre-toothed cat to be more fierce. - The dark color is a really deep greenish blue with I feel contrasts the yellow pretty well. - All in all the changes feel pretty drastic, yet at the same time its all so familiar, I think this change would become very welcome in Tennessee once the bright orange/yellow memory wore off. NEW JERSEY DEVILS (NO CHANGES MADE) NEW YORK ISLANDERS (REVERT TO OLDER COLORS) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ONLY CHANGED BACK TO 97/98 SHADE OF BLUE) - I think the darker blue really really brings out the orange over the lighter blue. There's really little else to be said about this classic gem of a logo. NEW YORK RANGERS (NO CHANGES MADE) OTTAWA SENATORS (CHANGE TO TEAMS ALTERNATE AS PRIMARY) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ALTERNATE LOGO FROM SENATORS ARCHIVE) - I do not like the current Senators logo. At all. I see what they were going for, but in my opinion, it failed. Meanwhile they have this beauty^ as an alternate. They need to make the switch ASAP. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS (NO CHANGES MADE) - My favorite team!!! Sweeeeeeet logo. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (REVERT TO 'ROBOPENGUIN' BUT USE BRIGHTER YELLOW) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (REVERT BACK TO THE ROBO-PENGUIN OF THE 90'S) - Although I really actually do like the skating penguin a whole lot, I feel the infamous robo-penguin is much classier and noble. It was a back and forth on this one. QUEBEC NORDIQUES (TEAM ADDED) (LOGO TWEAKED) ORIGINAL LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I thought the original Nordiques logo needed to be touched up slightly. The darker red makes the lighter blue stand out to me. Hopefully to everyone else also. SAN JOSE SHARKS (SWITCH TO 25TH ANNIVERSARY SWIMMING SHARK) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: MY VERSION: - It's hard to go wrong with any of the sharks logos, so I chose to go with the version without a triangle behind. Love these damn logos, top notch. ST. LOUS BLUES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I wanted to go with the lighter blue for the inside, it just felt better than having the darker version. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING (SWITCH TO ALTERNATE LOGO) (COLOR CHANGE) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: (ALTERNATE FROM LIGHTNING LOGO ARCHIVE) MY VERSION: - Didn't like the use of such a dark blue when I felt a lighter, more "electric" blue would look GREAT with a black jersey. (The letters and bolt(s) on the inside will stay white. Really brings the team identity to life. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS (NO CHANGES MADE) VANCOUVER CANUCKS (SWITCH TO JOHNNY CANUCK LOGO AS PRIMARY) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ALTERNATE FROM CANUCKS LOGO ARCHIVE) - It does take a little getting used to seeing this guy in all his glory on the front of a jersey (pictures do exist), but it's well worth it, and I think it would finally give all Vancouver fans what they really wanted all along. WASHINGTON CAPITALS (MODIFIED ALTERNATE 'WEAGLE' LOGO AS PRIMARY) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: (ALTERNATE 'WEAGLE' FROM CAPITALS LOGO ARCHIVE) MY VERSION: - This really could be my favorite creation from the whole set. I was back and forth on if I should keep the sticks or not, but they balance out the 3 stars that represent the D.C. flag. WINNIPEG JETS (COLORS ALTERED) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I just don't believe the grey is necessary. Although it doesn't look bad on the logo as a whole, the current jerseys they use (beautiful in my eyes) don't really call for grey to be used, so I decided to make a more jersey friendly version. Don't miss out on the white outline that makes the whole thing look great on, you guessed it, those b e a u t i f u l jerseys!!! That's it (for now) Let me know what you guys think!!!!!!

    The Season concepts

Recently, HockeyJerseyConcepts had a competition called "The Season" where people would anonymously send in concepts for a team of their choice. The teams were then split into groups for a round-robin format. The top 2 concepts in each group would advance to the playoffs, where the people would send in new concepts. I chose the San Jose Sharks as my team because I wanted to use their great new logos. I used the Archetype template from Icethetics because I didn't want to make my jersey obvious. For the first set of jerseys, which were part of the round-robin, I wanted to use orange (Unpopular Opinion: I like orange in their color scheme, I like orange in general), but only as a trim colour. I tried to make the design modern with a little bit of vintage. For the second set of jerseys, which were used in the playoffs, I wanted to use a style similar to the jerseys they used from 1998-2007. C&C is appreciated!

    San Jose Sharks Concept

I have decided to take a brake from my WCH series and come up with a sharks concept that incorporates the new alternate logo. Lets be honest, this is what we want the Sharks to wear next season right?
  7. With the NHL's 100th anniversary first approaching, I figure Adidas designers are working on special jerseys. In this concept, on the exact anniversary of the first ever NHL game, the three matchups of the night feature the NHL's Original Six teams, each with a sweater throwing back to their history. BRUINS @ CANADIENS With the Canadiens sporting close to exactly what they wore originally, I dug back to their pre-NHL days, and made a red version of their white sash jersey. With the Bruins having worn a black version of what they wore originally, I threw back to a later era, with their Winter Classic logo taking center stage. A note- all designs sport a round sweater collar and one-layer numbers, to emulate the style worn back then. RED WINGS @ MAPLE LEAFS For Toronto, I converted their Arenas jerseys to the Adidas template. For the Red Wings, since the Cougars logo doesn't represent their current brand, I created a new logo inspired by the Cougars crest, and threw back to the Cougars jerseys as well. BLACKHAWKS @ RANGERS For the Rangers, again, nothing much has changed, but I had no choice, so I just converted their originals to the Adidas template. For Chicago, I was inspired by their originals, keeping the shoulder pattern, but added red and a new arm and hem striping. C&C Appreciated! I spent a lot of time on this project, so I hope it turned out well!

    George Gund III Logo?

Hi guys, I'm looking for the George Gund III logo, used on the San Jose Sharks jersey for a season two years ago. Although I found the "patch", I can't find an actual logo version. I'm also looking for the alternate version used on the banner, that states his years alive, instead of "George". Thanks guys!
  9. The new name and logo for San Jose Sharks AHL affiliate has been unofficially unveiled/leaked. Welcome the San Jose Barracuda. news via article from Biz Journals
  10. This is my rebrand of the San Jose Sharks. I never really liked the look of the current Sharks logos and word marks. Therefore I decided to not redesign the shark biting the hockey stick in two. The new shark is less cartoonish, patrolling around and looking for new prey in the form of teams. Also gone is the color black. I replaced it with a very dark, blueish teal – darker than the one the Sharks used in their early days. This color will be the primary color of the Sharks. Aqua is the new secondary color and shark gray has replaced the rather unpopular orange. The famous triangle is still present, indicating the Sharks are not just a team for the fans in San Jose, but for the entire Bay Area, San Francisco and Oakland, as well. Hope you like it! San Jose Sharks concept set

When the Sharks did away with their colored shoulders and the waist stripping, I didn't necessarily think it was bad. It works on the teal jersey, but the white jersey is admittedly blander. But what struck he as odd is the overwhelming contrast of teal to black on the jerseys now. And yet, they use black pants. There are not many teams in the NHL that wear black, but don't wear black pants. And to my knowledge, there has only even been two black jerseys that were worn with non-black pants. (the 2003 Mighty Ducks alternate and the Coyotes alternate they had up until last year). However, the Carolina Hurricanes have demonstrated to me that even if you have black as a significant color to your identity, you can get away with not using it as the pants color as long as the jerseys aren't black themselves. So with that in mind, I decided to try a Sharks set with teal pants. And here we are... I realize that in only to make it work well, especially with the white jersey, is that it does require a might higher ratio of teal over black. So that it what I've done. Comments and critique welcome.

    San Jose Sharks Set

So this is the first concept I've ever made. I've reworked this concept countless times and I've finally decided that this is the winner. Also used Mr. Wonka's fabulous template (thank you kind sir) so I hope it really pops.
  13. This kind of came out of the blue publicly, but was a long time coming behind closed doors. The San Francisco Bulls, the San Jose Sharks ECHL affiliate, are on the verge of folding or moving, possibly as soon as next week. Apparently they lost a lot of money over the last two seasons due to unfavorable lease terms and far lower than expected attendance and losses. The current owners have a deal to sell the Bulls to a new ownership group who intend to move them to either Oracle Arena in Oakland or to Save Mart Center in Fresno. The former seems unlikely as the Warriors have refusal rights on any other sports team tenants at Oracle Arena and they seem disinclined to share their arena space. The sale and move are dependent on ECHL's board voting on it next week. If it's not approved the Bulls will try to finish out the season in SF before folding but they need to find the cash to do so (having lost 2 million last year and they're on track to lose another 2 million this year). The Bulls entered the ECHL last season and have watched their attendance dwindle since opening day from over 8000 down to under 2000 a game good for dead last in the league. http://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/S-F-Bulls-hockey-team-could-fold-or-move-soon-5160054.php
  14. Did a search and didn't see any thread on this. Also haven't heard of any news in a few months, but decided to post it anyway and maybe we'll hear more on this closer to the summer. HP Pavilion looking to end naming rights early in San Jose: http://allthingsd.co...ng-rights-deal/ Sounds like Meg Whitman and HP want out early of the ($47 Million/15yrs. [2016] and SAP could be interested in taking over as early as the 2013-2014 season or even this summer. Here's the mercury news article: http://www.mercuryne...ew-name-home-sj If SAP doesn't go for it what company do you think might go for the naming rights? Maybe the Adobe Dome? (I know it's not really a "dome" but dome seems to include all covered stadiums/arenas. Maybe the Apple Arena? Or do you think a company might go with something like: (Company Name) San Jose Arena? (Company Name) Shark Tank? I still think of it as the Shark Tank, but I'm pretty certain the Arena will have a corporate sponsor. As long as the sponsor changes their logo to match or come close to the Sharks colors. None of the Oracle Arena red on a gold and blue court stuff.

    San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks are, in my opinion, a bit of a historical oddity. The NHL officially recognizes them as a 1991 expansion team, but they were a bit more then that. Gordon Gund and his brother George Gund III became minority owners of the NHL's least successful "First Six" expansion team, the Oakland/California (Golden) Seals. Being from Cleveland, they were able to orchestrate the team's relocation to that city, and the Seals became the Cleveland Barons for two seasons. The team, however, was no longer financially salvageable on its own following the 1977-78 season, and the Gunds were able to negotiate a merger with the Minnesota North Stars. The Gunds would then turn around and buy the newly merged North Stars team. The NHL, however, was interested in returning to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s, and the Gunds had even considered moving the North Stars to the area at one point. So a deal was struck with the NHL that effectively undid the 1978 North Stars-Seals/Barons merger. George Gund III sold his shares in the North Stars to Howard Baldwin, and in turn the league would grant him a franchise in the Bay Area, and he'd be allowed to take a certain number of North Stars players with him. It's because of how this went down that I've always viewed the Sharks as a continuation of the Seals/Barons. They weren't so much an expansion team as much as the Seals opting out of the merger with the North Stars and adopting a new name. Which brings me to the concept. The Seals' last Bay Area uniform set has always stuck with me as something that I would like to see tried again. The uniforms worn from 1974-76 utilized over the shoulder UCLA/LSU/Colts style striping, something rarely seen on hockey sweaters. It's a simple enough design that it works as a classic look, yet it's most definitely unique. So I figured I would try it out on the continuation of the team that introduced it. I opted to go with the current primary. For all of its flaws, I feel it's just to much of an improvement over the original. That being said, I did go with the original 1991-1998 colour scheme of a lighter teal, black, and grey. The current Sharks colour scheme just never appealed to me. The teal's way to dark, and the bright orange always seemed off putting. The Bay Area isn't the sunny self-styled paradise of Los Angeles/Southern California. It can get pretty chilly. Also, sharks in the depths of the ocean hardly conjure up images of bright, sunny days. So I lightened the teal to the original shade and replaced orange with the original look's grey. For the alternate mark I used the original shark fin, recoloured to better match the current primary. I don't know why, I just find it superior to the updated diamond fin logo. Maybe the original just feels more self-contained. Anyway that's the concept. I wanted to tie the Sharks back in with their early history as the Seals somehow, and I thought the unorthodox striping last used by the Seals in California were the perfect means to do so. C&C, as always, is welcome.
  16. Again I'll preface by saying I hardly post concepts here anymore, and I'm hesitant to start again. But as long as there is interest I will consider sharing my work. I am currently working on some re-brands for the NHL and kind of wanted to give people a sneak peek at what I'm putting together. I have some new uniforms in the works for the San Jose Sharks, but am also touching up the rest of the identity, including the wordmarks. The current ones aren't good, so I started over. Anyway, I thought I would post what I have done in hopes that someone would leave some feedback. Hopefully I can get the rest of this project posted soon. Stay tuned.
