  1. Hello. I am an animator and video editor and I have been working on and off on a logo redesign project for the better part of a year now (with long stretches of inactivity) as a way to get better at illustrator and I thought I would make an account here for some critique. I started really getting in to logo design when I came across a black and white and horribly pixelated design for a Fleur De Lis that I thought could be made into a St. Louis Blues logo, and after contacting the owner of the shop and asking about it and if I could mess with it, I did. I didn't really think it worked well as a main logo, but I did think it worked as a shoulder patch. I did it in a couple other colors as well and took the wordmark from the actual St. Louis Blues sheet music after an idea from the kind folks on the Blues subreddit. Over a year later I thought I decided I needed to get better at illustrator so I started designing alternate/shoulder logos for the rest of the league. I'm "done" with about 1/4 of the league at this point. Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear suggestions on what I need to improve on, but keep in mind I dont really know what I am doing. Also, if there is a better way to format this let me know. St. Louis Original: Wordmark: Colors: Revision: I did Minnesota next, where I thought a roundel logo would look cool. I did two variants of the same logo and one that was a riff on their main logo. 1: 2: 3: Colorado This one I actually think could stand up as a main logo. I got rid of their ugly "Millennium swoops' Winnipeg Classic colors: Modern Colors: Toronto: based on the city of Toronto's flag Ottowa: I wanted to play off their older logo that everyone loves so much without just making it an exact copy Revision: Buffalo: I took the crossed swords from their red logo days and put them behind the skull I drew. Penguins: I replaced the iconic triangle with a Pennsylvania keystone. Hopefully that doesn't make me a heretic. Revision: I put the penguin in a complete keystone and I like it, but I still think the half keystone looks better. Lightning: Honestly something's missing from this one, but everything I add makes it look worse so I decided to ask you all what you think. the L works pretty good but it seems empty. Again, these aren't really meant to replace the logo front of the jersey, most are meant to be shoulder patches, but this one feels empty. Wordmark: I thought trying to make it a wordmark would work a little bit better, and it does in some aspects, but it feels really empty still. Canadiens: I took the Fleur from the Montreal flag and tried to turn it in to an "M"which I think works pretty well, but I do think it needs some more polishing. I don't really like this better than their current logo but I think something like it could work as a shoulder patch 1: 2: Stars: I took their old star logo and updated the colors and added a recolored Texas flag. Then I removed the wordmark and had the star go through the middle of a D in the same style as the other letters 1: 2: After a bit of a hiatus, I am back. I took the Spirit of Detroit and added wings to it. I am not sure if I want to add something in his hands but I am pretty proud of this logo I have had this Preds logo in my back pocket for a little while now, its super simple and is kind of a combination of their shoulder patch and chest logo. I plan on doing another one for the Preds as well but I thought I'd post this one just to get an idea of what you guys think
  2. I came across an idea for a secondary logo for the Stars, and decided to run with it. The presentation is below. I've got a version made up for the HJC Random Competition. The challenge was to create the Stars in red and blue, and you can find a link to that HERE.
  3. I personally think that some of the extinct hockey teams looked the best. The Whalers, Nordiques, Rockies, Jets, etc. had some of my favorite hockey designs ever, and instead now we get to feast our eyes on the Hurricanes and Avalanche. Sad. So, This is basically my attempt to rewrite history, if the new franchises continued the look of their formers, Starting out with the Whaler-Hurricanes. The whalers had one of the best logos in all of sports history, and awesome uniforms and color scheme to boot, which helps to make the Hurricanes design more unique. C&C appreciated, and although I have some more on tap, let me know what you'd like to see next! Thanks!
  4. About a month after I meant to get started on the final leg of the Anniversary saga, here I go...the multi-team North Stars series finally begins, and we kick things off with the 60s. The Wild do battle with the Predators, whose uniform design is based on one of their spiritual ancestors, the Nashville Dixie Flyers Down in Big D, the Stars face off with a foe that can legitimately be the visting team in any decade...yes, it's the 'Nucks again, this time borrowing from their minor league namesakes. For the upcoming 70s post, I'm considering using the Cleveland Monsters instead of the Blue Jackets for the Barons tribute. Very strongly, I might add. I give you an early preview of the disco decade...the Sharks, paying tribute to the California Golden Seals (at home, for once) take on the Avs (in the style of the Nordiques' originals)
  5. Hi all, Inspired by the news on Dallas trademarking the Texans name, I've decided to start a new project, a throwback inspired by the Texans. Beginning of project: A: Modern, current D, Green Wordmark UPDATED: B: Black D, Green Wordmark UPDATED: C: Green Monotone UPDATED: D: Green D, Black Wordmark UPDATED: C&C Appreciated, and vote in the poll!
  6. Dallas Stars Alternate

Here's the alternate that Dallas deserves, and the one Dallas needs. It might be BFBS but I think it works well.
  7. Texas Stars AHL Concept

Hey all, Recently I've started fiddling around with creating logo and jersey concepts in Illustrator and came up with something for the AHL's Texas Stars. Primary Logo: Not a fan of the present day Texas logo which is basically the old Stars logo except heavily beveled. I am, however, a fan of the old Dallas shoulder patch logo, so I took that and removed the "D" and the black from the logo and replaced all of it with gold. Alternate logo: Removed all the unnecessary beveling that I feel ruins the look of the current brand and added the old Stars colors for continuity. Jerseys: Currently working on an alternate, but in the meantime, any thoughts or critiques? Fire away
  8. I will do as many of these as I want to. Goal is to eliminate Reebok piping and reduce stock stripes (may keep when it's a traditional look). I will start with Dallas. The uniforms are not unique enough for a newer team IMO. I thought it needed to tie in to Texas more since they might as well stay awhile. My designs were meant to resemble the iconic Texas flag and remotely remind hometown fans of the Cowboys that play in town. I will take suggestions for who to take on next. C&C is needed because I want to keep getting better. Help from the boards has taken me a long way and I would like to go further.
  9. Hey guys, For the past few days I've been working on my fantasy team's new identity. Last year I was called the Minnesota Mammoths, and I did win the league. However, the name got tiresome. When I was looking for places to relocate (towns/cities without MLB teams), I looked at California as an option. I remember watching a video about 3-4 months ago about the PBL in the 1940's. Anyways I love the Hollywood Stars name so I decided to give my team its namesake. So, let me introduce to you, The Hollywood Stars! Jersey Set: Cap logos: Let me know what you think, I haven't posted it to my leagues facebook group yet, I wanted some C&C first.
