It just seems so... practical to have the AAA team close by, in case of injury call-ups or whatever else.

Now I'm curious which team has its farm clubs in closest proximity. My first instinct was to say the Red Sox since they've got three clubs within 90 minutes (Pawtucket, Lowell and Portland) but then they've got two teams in the south, so maybe not.

The Orioles have to be in the running.

Their Gulf Coast League team is the only one not within 250 miles (and 4 of them are in Maryland).

A little off topic news, but the A's won't be affiliated with Sacramento next season. The Giants affiliate, Fresno, is now the Astros AAA affiliate. Looks like the path is clear for the Giants to be the River Cats next year.

That would be pretty funny to see a Giants affiliate in "Oakland territory". THEY ARE SURROUNDED!

I wouldn't say it's Oakland territory or San Francisco territory.

Northern California has a complete split on San Francisco and Oakland teams.

No. A's are pretty much the East Bay and that's it. The Giants have everything else in the Bay.
I'd be willing to disagree. South Bay has a big A's fan base (I'd say split), and Sacramento is just about split. Giants are the flavor of the day because of the nice ballpark and recent World Series titles.

Grew up and lived in the south bay (and southern east bay) most of my life. It's solidly Giants territory. Any A's fan claiming otherwise is deluding themselves. Sacramento is also solidly Giants. They have A's fans in both locations, but it's 75/25 at best. And it's been getting worse since 2010.

I don't think so. I have lived in the East Bay and South Bay. More Giants presence in the South Bay. A's presence is strong, but nowhere near what the Giants have now. Flavor of the month sure, but still overall, lots more Giants.

Sacramento was a part of NorCal that the A's had and now that's going to be taken away. Adding with the SJ Giants, that's two minor league teams (assuming Giants get the Cats) that the Giants have sandwiching NorCal. Tough for the A's.

Well at least the A's still have Stockton. But I'm sure the Giants would take that away if they could too.

Eugene Emeralds (Short Season A, Northwest League) go from Padres affiliate to Cubs affiliate.

On a related note from the Northwest League, Boise Hawks go from Cubs to Rockies and the Tri-City Dust Devils go from Rockies to Padres.

Unless you have some actual numbers otherwise I'd say Sacramento is closer to 50/50. I see a lot of A's gear, car stickers and plate frames every day here in Sacramento.

I'd direct you to the closest to a study that we have with the NY times article. It is anything BUT 50/50. Like all of NorCal it is Giants territory.

South Bay boy living in Sacto (area), and it's definitely not 75/25. Might not be 50/50, but I'd say split was 60/40 at most. The A's have a major marketing issue, and I'd say mostly it's due to ownership issues and the uncertainty of the team's future, but the A's base is certainly large and loyal. If they ever get to move to San Jose, South Bay will instantly become 75/25 or greater for the A's.

A study based on a number of facebook likes in a particular area in a city with a state university campus that has a large transient population of people with bay area origins, when the team won two World Series titled in the last four years resulting in a lot of fair weather or dual team support? Tell me that study isn't flawed. I'll go by what I see every day actually living in Sacramento and going to the places where large numbers of the region's population goes. I don't think you've set foot in Sacramento in a long time...

Yeah I'd say most of Northern California east of the Bay Area is pretty solidly Giants territory. Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of friends who are bigger fans of the A's than the Giants, but the A's are basically screwed with their current TV deal. Pretty much the entire reason why landed on the Giants end of all of this is very simple. It's because I could actually watch their games. Unless this has changed since I lived there in 2012, The Giants are on CSN Bay Area which is basically carried by every single cable company on the basic package within 300 miles. The A's are on CSN California which isn't offered by every company, and a lot of the ones who do offer it charge more for it. It was a bitch to find a carrier that wasn't charging an arm and a leg for it even in Sacramento. Go further east to most of the Sierras and even Reno, and the channel isn't even offered. The most ridiculous thing about all this was when I got MLB.TV for the first time and realized that I STILL couldn't watch A's games because freaking LAKE TAHOE, over 200 miles away, was still considered blackout territory.

Baseball Trade Rumors says the A's Triple-A affiliation is going with Nashville.

It's now official.

Brewers supposedly to Colorado Springs.

Still would've preferred Indianapolis for the Brewers, but it's better than Fresno. Hoping this is somehow the first step towards busting up the other half of the Nash-Waukee connection (Predators/Admirals).

Probably because the Perds have irreparably damaged a once-proud Milwaukee Admirals club with their lowest-common-denominator brand of hockey and turned them into nothing more than an assembly line for fourth-liners who clutch and grab, to the greater detriment of hockey in southeastern Wisconsin. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
