Wordmark_Event.png

For this event, you need to create a wordmark for a team called the Aces.
  • You pick the city and the color set.
  • The wordmark must include the name of the city.
  • You must submit the wordmark on two separate backgrounds: one white background and one colored background using a color from the color set; do NOT submit logos or uniforms.
  • Do not write any justification for the city or colors.
DEADLINE: September 15th, 11:59AM Eastern Time

Reminder - Read this carefully as I won't give out warnings this time!

Failure to follow the guidelines could result in your entry being inadvertently (or intentionally) excluded from judging.

Entries must be emailed to logolympiad (@) gmail (dot) com prior to the set deadline. Subject line should be the event number (Ex: Event 1). Once you submit your entry, it is considered final.

Entries must be submitted as .jpg, .gif or .png formats. The file name format of the submission is: event#_yourusername.extension (Ex: event1_pollux.png). The file must be attached to your email.

All final entries must be 800x600 pixels with at least 70 pixels of white space at the bottom of the image. This means that your presentation has to fit in a 800x530 pixels window (800 pixels wide by 530 pixels high). I will NOT re-size entries that are not properly done, so make sure it's right.

The background of the entries should be solid white, unless otherwise specified. You must not use gradients, shadows, patterns, lines, etc. on your background.

Do not add any text or images to your submission, unless otherwise specified. Do not add the team name, location, the entry number, the event type, etc.

Do not include your name or any other personal identifiers on your submission. Also, do not watermark your work. I will add a watermark to each entry before they get posted for judging. I will also provide each entry with a number. You are expected to keep the identity of your entry anonymous until the end of the event. If you think you know the identity of another designer, keep it to yourself. Anyone who exposes the identity of themselves or anyone else will be DQ'd.

I will NOT contact you if your entry is wrong, therefore make sure that you comply to these guidelines before submitting your entry.

What about a specific sport? I.E. putting a hockey stick, baseball, basketball, etc.?

No specific sport. You can choose whatever sport you want. You can also be very generic and have a wordmark that could be used for any sport.

For this event, it's your call.

For clarity, you CAN add a sport-specific item in the wordmark. There will be no disqualification for choosing a particular sport.

Can we use fonts, or do we have to custom create everything?

You can use fonts, although I encourage you to create your own or modify an existing one for a unique look.

From a PM:

You mentioned that we are allowed to use sport-specific items in our wordmark. Are we allowed to include non sport-specific items in our wordmark?

Yes, you CAN include non sport-specific items.

Can the wordmark include a partial logo? Say I put a bird's head and have the wordmark above that, kind of like the Blue Jays.

It can, but the logo must not be the focus point. The Blue Jays are not a good example, as it is the wordmark over the primary logo. A better example would be the Patriots:

This would be acceptable.

Another question via PM:

would having the wordmark on top of [removed for inspiration purposes] be considered too close to a logo or would that pass?

The part you are talking about here would have to be included in the wordmark to work properly. To be clear, the wordmark is the primary element here, not the logo. If, for example, you have a wordmark that doesn't even take half of what you are designing, then obviously you're doing a logo instead.

You can check the entries from the previous LOGOLYMPIADS to see what was accepted and what was disqualified:

2012 - Event 8 (Wordmark)

2011 - Event 1 (Wordmark)

In 2011, there were really good entries that had the star while being a wordmark. That's what you would need to keep in mind for this event.
