Lets expand on the NHL Winter Classics series! For the time warp this year, you need to create a classic look for teams that joined the league after the 1970 expansion as if they had joined the league as a Founder of the league (1917).

Teams allowed are: Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals, and Winnipeg Jets.
  • The city and the team name must remain the same.
  • You can keep the same colors or go a completely different way.
  • You need to provide one uniform set, consisting of a jersey and socks.
  • You also need to provide the primary logo alongside the uniform.
Additional information from the thread
  • The primary logo should be a fauxback logo, to fit with the year for the time warp (1917).
  • You can also make a secondary logo if you want.
  • You can include the city and team name as a label on your submission.
DEADLINE: October 6th, 11:59AM Eastern Time

Reminder - Read this carefully as I won't give out warnings this time!

Failure to follow the guidelines could result in your entry being inadvertently (or intentionally) excluded from judging.

Entries must be emailed to logolympiad (@) gmail (dot) com prior to the set deadline. Subject line should be the event number (Ex: Event 1). Once you submit your entry, it is considered final.

Entries must be submitted as .jpg, .gif or .png formats. The file name format of the submission is: event#_yourusername.extension (Ex: event1_pollux.png). The file must be attached to your email.

All final entries must be 800x600 pixels with at least 70 pixels of white space at the bottom of the image. This means that your presentation has to fit in a 800x530 pixels window (800 pixels wide by 530 pixels high). I will NOT re-size entries that are not properly done, so make sure it's right.

The background of the entries should be solid white, unless otherwise specified. You must not use gradients, shadows, patterns, lines, etc. on your background.

Unless otherwise specified, do not add any images or text (team name, location, entry number, event type, etc) to your submission.

Do not include your name or any other personal identifiers on your submission. Also, do not watermark your work. I will add a watermark to each entry before they get posted for judging. I will also provide each entry with a number. You are expected to keep the identity of your entry anonymous until the end of the event. If you think you know the identity of another designer, keep it to yourself. Anyone who exposes the identity of themselves or anyone else will be DQ'd.

I will NOT contact you if your entry is wrong, therefore make sure that you comply to these guidelines before submitting your entry.

Just to clarify, the primary logo we need to show alongside the uniform is a fauxback primary, not the team's current primary, correct?

Yes, the primary logo should be a fauxback.

Can we make a secondary logo too? Or only primary?

You can also make a secondary logo if you want. There will be no penalty for a secondary logo.

  • You need to provide one uniform set, consisting of a jersey and socks.

Is a template with shorts acceptable? Or should we eliminate the shorts from the image?

It is accepted, but not required.

Remember to concentrate your efforts on what is minimally requested.

Via an email:

Can we use a current logo and faux back it and I have an ipad doing this I dont what 800 x 600 is on it thanks

If I understand correctly:

  • you want to use a current logo - The goal of the event is to design an NHL team as if it joined in 1917. Think about the logos during that time. The current logo of pretty much all listed teams would not have been designed that way in 1917. Therefore you need to create a faux back logo.
  • you're designing on an iPad and don't know what 800 x 600 is - On this, I can't help you, as I don't have an iPad. I didn't even know there were applications to draw on those. Bottom line is, try to send the image to yourself first to see the size. If it's 800 x 600 with a 70 pixels of whitespace at the bottom, you're good to go. Otherwise, I would suggest to be able to resize it in some way. Check on google to see if you can find information about this.

Hey Pollux, I think you missed my second question, which makes sense because I added it in an edit. But are these supposed to be "fauxback" style jerseys, where it's a modern jersey? Or should we use a jersey base like what they actually played in in 1917?

Yes, I missed it because of the edit.

In any case, you are designing a jersey for a hockey team in 1917. You can use any template you want - it could be a recent one or an old one. But keep in mind that there was no sublimation, no small pattern, no gradients, etc. in 1917.

Look at the nhl uniforms from 1917-1918 to give you an idea. You can (and should!) add an element that will make your submission stand out from others. Thinner stripes? Vertical or diagonal stripes? Sash? Why not? It simply has to stay within reasonable limit of what could've been done during those years.

I will not disqualify anyone if they submit a resolutely modern uniform, but I believe that the entry would be penalized during voting since it doesn't reflect the style of the 1910's - 1920's.

If the city and nickname don't appear in our primary logo, should we include them in the submission somewhere?

Yes, you can include the city and team name as a label on your submission.

Should we have one jersey, or a home and an away?

  • You need to provide one uniform set, consisting of a jersey and socks.

Can we use the NHL Winter Classics series patch in the jersey and in the entrie??

Don't use it. It was simply used to give an opportunity to go back in 1917.
