So it being October, it's that time of year again with the iRB Americas Rugby Championship (commonly known as ARC) kicking off here in beautiful Victoria, BC, Canada.

This is the third year in a row that Langford, BC is hosting the championship with Canada 'A', USA Selects, Argentina Jaguars and Uruguay national teams. Langford is located just outside Victoria and is the home of Rugby Canada at the newly ddesigned and constructed Westhills Stadium. Built in 2009, it was the home of the USL PDL side Victoria Highlanders until 2011 when Rugby Canada decided to move their main offices and training facility to Langford, BC. It has a normal seating capacity of 2500 but standing room can go up to 4000.

Each year, the ARC draws huge local numbers out to the matches, with an average of 2700-3500 fans each of the six matches. Complete tournament packages range from $45-319 depending on seating locations. That gets you to see all six matches live. And my wife bought me a tournament pass for my birthday for the third consecutive year. It's great rugby and highly competitive. This thread will keep the rugby fans on the board abreast of the matches, plus have a area to talk about the matches.

I went to both matches today and both were full of end to end action. If you can't get to Victoria to watch the matches live, you can watch it streamed through the ARC website, see above.

Got any pics of the kits the sides are wearing?

Why is the Argentina side known as the Jaguars when the Argentina side that plays in the Rugby Championship is know as the Pumas?

Here is the captains of the four sides posing downtown Victoria with the silverware...

As for the Argentinian side is known as the Jaguars is because it is UAR's "B" rugby team participating in the Americas. Normally this time of year, the Pumas are participating in their international tours in the northern hemisphere. The Americas Rugby Championship is used for a tune up for the players Canada, USA and Argentina that are normally not called up for international duty. Though the side Uruguay sends to the ARC every year is their full international side. Still good rugby through and through.

Thanks for the explanation VG.

Hate Canada wearing black, going to see if i can find a close up of that Uruguay kit.

Canada is not just wearing black, we will be wearing our red home kits as well during the torunament, most likely during the Canada-USA match on Wednesday.

Nice.

Always looks strange seeing the Maples in any other colour than red.

On the final day of competition for the 2014 IRB Americas Rugby Championship, Argentina win their fifth consecutive ARC title with an overall convincing performance against their three opponents. There was no doubt that the Jaguars were going to run through the Americans and Uruguayans, but there was some surprise how easily they brushed aside the Canadians. The last two ARCs held in Victoria, Canada has held the Argentinians close and to low scoring affairs, with their matches being the curtain lowerer of the tournament. It's a shame actually but it's something for the Canucks to work on prior to some of their players getting called up the senior national side for the fall internationals and preps for the 2015 IRB Rugby World Cup in England.

Matchday 3 (October 19)

Uruguay 5-30 USA http://www.americasrugbychampionship.com/leagues/newsletter.cfm?clientID=5634&leagueID=22363&page=83289

Argentina 39-9 Canada http://www.americasrugbychampionship.com/leagues/newsletter.cfm?clientID=5634&leagueID=22363&page=83287

Canada seems to be going down lately. I was not impressed with their loss to Japan in Burnaby during the summer as well as losses to the US again.(Doesn't matter the sport, I hate losing to the Americans lol). Argentina is well knowns in the rugby world as a strong nation for the sport, but I must give credit to the Americans for putting more of an effort into the sport. They have come a long way in their development in both the 15's and 7's
