I think utley could have been if is body had held up better (and if they called him up when they should have and he had those extra two seasons of stats) but that's really it. Hamels would have significantly better numbers had he been on another team, as he's been at the bottom of run support the last 4 or 5 seasons. His 2009 really hurt him though. Being wsmvp helps him, but unless he's traded and wins another WS and/or a couple cy youngs, he's got no shot.

Did that 03 Marlins team have anyone that would qualify either? And for that matter, the 02 Angels, also?

I guess he does: x14 All Star, x13 Gold Glove (most of all time at C), x7 Silver Slugger, MVP, WS Champ, 2227 Games played at C

I can't think of any HOF players on the:

1981 Dodgers (manager is in the HOF)

1984 Tigers (manager is in the HOF)

1988 Dodgers (manager is in the HOF)

1997 Marlins (manager could make the HOF)

I am not sold on a potential HOF player from:

2002 Angels

2008 Phillies

2005 White Sox are in a gray area. Frank Thomas was on the team but did not appear in the series due to injury.

That's amazing because that team was so dominant. But they seem to be among the leaders in "Hall of Very Good" players: Morris, Whitaker, Trammel, Gibson. And a bunch of other players that many people still remember: Willie Hernandez, Lance Parrish, Darrell Evans.

No one on the Angels, no one on the Marlins, no one on the White Sox' playoff roster because Frank Thomas was hurt, no one on the Phillies. Weird run.

I thought he was traded mid-season to Oakland and then was invited back by White Sox personnel for the duration of their 2005 postseason run.

Totally forgot Pudge was on that 03 Marlins team. What a bunch of dream killers.

You mean heroes for saving us from a Yankees World Series win.

At that time period, those 2003 Marlins were the ultimate baseball partycrashers. At least when the Red Sox got Boone'd out of the ALCS, the majority thinking was "at least they lost to a team who's always contending, albeit it's those damn Yankees." The way the Cubs collapsed, though, made us think of the Marlins as "that stupid team who's always in last place and plays in front of a fairweather sports market, then destroys the hopes and dreams of woe-be-all franchises (Cubs, Braves, Indians), and then reverts back to derping to last place."

2001 (because of 9/11) and 2003 (because of Marlins) were about the only times the plurality of baseball fans wanted New York to win the World Series.

No, he had a season-ending injury. He signed with Oakland in 2006 and then Kenny Williams disowned him as a White Sock. "STAY OUT OF WHITE SOX BUSINESS," he said. Now Frank Thomas is a team ambassador of sorts and Kenny Williams is vice-president of putting his thumb up his butthole or something.

Also, I'd put Miggy in that mix, even though he was 19.
Forgot about him but a HOF candidate for sure and he started on the outfield on that team. Dontrelle Willis was on that team too, he did turn out to be a huge bust for the Tigers.

Sounds like my dream job, hope there is an opening soon

I don't know how high expectations were for him. His last year in Miami was really bad and the one prior wasn't all that great either, if I remember correctly. Either way, Detroit won that trade by a long shot since the top prospects they gave up never materialized and Miguel Cabrera... well, you know.

I had forgotten all about Dontrelle Willis, though.

In hindsight it was a bad trade at the time.

We wonder why that team has no fan support, but I look at a trade like that and I'm amazed they have any. With Willis they gave up arguably the most popular player in team history and with Cabrera they gave up what has to date been the best player to ever suit up for the Marlins for a big pile of nothing. (No offense to Andrew Miller who's turned into a pretty good lefty specialist out of the pen.) All in the name of saving on salary.

As popular as Miggy has become in Detroit, I could only imagine what he would be like in Miami by now if he never left.

Am i the only one that is looking forward to seeing A-Rod again next season ?

I don´t understand all the hate, don´t see how he is any worse then Nelson Cruz, Ortiz and the rest of the guys.

A-rod have allways looked to be in top shape and unlike others he has never gotten fat and lazy after getting that big contract. Hope he returns in the same shape and style as always.
