Custom Football Tips/Advice Thread--Share Your Pictures!

I'm working on making a custom helmet for a personal project. I've painted the shell and face mask and I have the pads put back in, leaving me with the stickers to put on. I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to what kind of stickers work best and are the most authentic. Where can I get the stickers that are clear based and work best for this?

Thanks for any responses, pictures may follow.

Are you using a full size or mini-helmet? Stadri Emblems make some standard stripes and clear cut helmet logos. I'm sure there are others out there. Realistically, you may have to order between 12-20 helmet stickers. You could use the clear cut stickers that will fit through a standard printer but it might not be thick enough to stay on the helmet.

It's a full size. I'll definitely look into that!

That is a cool site, but am I the only one surprised they are allowed to exist?

Nah, I don't see why not. The licensing could hurt them, but I don't think so.

I did have some problems with them though. Took a while to get a few things shipped. Plus, they aren't high quality decals. Had to use a hairdryer to mold them and make them stick. So, they aren't as genuine as can be, but about the closest thing you can find at the price and availability.

These are the three I made with decals from them -

Though I said it was awesome to have a site like this...there will probably be C&D letters either coming from the schools (can't make profit off of trademarks) or Upper Deck card company.

Of all the names to call the business...Upper Deck Studios was probably one of the dumbest.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

By the way, I'll put in a plug for sportdecals.com. I am awaiting an order of 40 custom mini helmets of my defunct high school. Below is the spec sheet they send prior to starting any work. I admire their effort.

Well, they did change over from Boardwalk Decals to UpperDeck, for whatever reason.

The problem with other sites like sportsdecals.com is just like you said, have to order many of the same design. It's great for custom decals, but unless you plan on making 40 or so helmets, it's not practical.

I am going to be ordering decals for my Kentucky helmet and now I'll have to be deciding on what decals to put on my all black Xenith (suggestions would be weclomed) Thanks for sharing the site, anyone know of any places that will do small lots of custom decals? I have a fantasy football helmet I would like to have a custom logo put on.

Also, do you guys think a Revo back bumper sticker would fit on a Xenith helmet bumper?

They recently changed their name too. A few months ago it was called something else that I cannot recall. They have good stuff, that's for sure.

EDIT: DIdn't see other's respond with the same info. My bad.

When you made your Oregon State helmet, did you paint the stripes on the mask yourself or order it from somewhere? I've never had luck with painting masks.

To the original poster, if you are looking for decals, also check eBay. I've purchased the majority of my decals from there.

I've ordered from protuffdecals.com In the past. They were professional grade decals IMO. I ordered a set of 12 custom logo wrap around decals, you need to specify the thickness you want. Don't know if they still do but back then they send me free samples along with a catalog when I asked. They do helmet strips, numbers & awards. Check them out.

I painted it myself. Spent a lot of time taping it off.

Honestly, if you wanna get the official 3M helmet decals you can usually find them on Amazon. I've picked up full size ASU helmet decals (the pitchforks and a few different eras of Sparky and the sun logo) more than once from there. I've grabbed a few Bucs decals when I made my custom mini fridge a few years ago too.

Smallest group of decals I've seen is 12. But I think most sites require 20 if they are intricate logos.
