ASU leaving Nike for adidas

^yuck. That reeks of 2003 so bad I can smell it from here. For some reason they wore their regular single maroon helmet stripe at home and Titans style striping on the road. Those lasted one year right?

Adidas is easily the worst supplier in NCAA Football. Their jerseys look cheap, they insist on throwing that dumb tire tread wherever any school lets them, and in some cases the pants are like glorified elastic sweatpants.

Sorry, Sun Devils fans.

Ouch... my condolences, ASU fans.

It will be a lateral change at best. Bad move, ASU. Bad move.

How is at a bad move to swap ugly Nike uniforms for ugly Adidas uniforms, only Adidas pays you more money?

The Nike uniforms weren't ugly at all. The Adidas uniforms will be.

The Nike uniforms were absolutely ugly, but that's because 1) they were primarily black, which isn't a school color; and 2) the left Sparky off the helmets in favor of the shrimp fork. The gradient numbers are awful, but the font itself is a run-of-the-mill modern rounded font. Go with solid color numbers (with an outline!), bring back Sparky and lose the black and the Nike uniforms would have looked about as good as they can make a modern uniform. The Adidas shoulders are awful, but at least they don't have gradient numbers.

I like the pitch fork. Sparky is still relevant, but I do agree he does need to be included better into the scheme.

The fork, to me at least, is awful. I understand that they were trying to make it an iconic and unique look, and also that some think Sparky isn't good because the players need to feel tough. But it's a poorly rendered pitchfork. Pitchforks have long handles. It looks like a shrimp fork or, at best, a hand rake.

Does anyone know if the techfit template is being modified at all for next season? If no changes are being made, I'd expect a very minimal look for asu, possibly even going back to the late 90's look (like miss state) or just go with the snoop sample above. Techfit's materials and template simply do not allow for many design elements to even exist let alone look good.

Adidas would never let something that conservative happen. It's not flashy enough for the recruits.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

I don't know if this is an official jersey...but here it is:

That is probably just a quick sample Adidas threw together so they could promote it. I hope not though. That's actually a decent-looking jersey. I'd take it if offered, as opposed to waiting to see what Adidas really does.

That Plummer-era uniform is pretty nice. No frills but solid. It seems like they had it for a long time. Now they are black. They are copper. They are sometimes their school colors. Maybe there's a chance that the school and Adidas work to scale that crap back and stick with the colors.

Regarding the fork, I don't love it. But I really, really don't think Sparky looks good on a helmet (I generally don't like mascots on helmets, though). I'd rather the "ASU" that was on the sleeves be on the helmets.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

I have to say that the fork has really grown on me the past few years. It's simple, clean, and easy to reproduce. The biggest problem with Sparky (which is my favorite logo in college sports) is the inconsistencies in reproduction. It seems to always look different between manufacturers, and sometimes he looks downright awful.

I hope we always keep Sparky around in some capacity, but I don't mind him as a secondary Mark.

In my three years here at ASU, I can tell you that this school isn't afraid to do stupid things for the sake of money. With the addition of hockey as a D1 sport and the necessity to bump another woman's sport up to D1 level due to Title IX, this could be the extra cash that makes that possible. They're also trying to find a way to cover the $250 million renovation to Sun Devil Stadium, so this could ultimately help ease some of the burden of that debt too. Also, Adidas has hired quite a few designers away from Nike over the past year or so. That may help them too.

Like I said, I don't like this move, and we're probably gonna look like trash, but I get the move. It's basically par for the course for ASU.

Probably? We're definitely going to look like trash with those goddamn tire tracks all over the football jerseys. Terrible. And three stripes, three stripes everywhere...

And I hadn't thought about the hockey team in this either, as they'll be switching over to adidas too. Thankfully, adidas is pretty conservative when it comes to hockey uniforms. (Except putting they three-stripe triangle directly under the collar. Even more in your face than the swoosh ever was.)

Well, I can tell you that the reaction around here from ASU fans is not at all positive. I don't think its really going to hurt recruiting as much as everyone thinks, as I've always thought the Nike influence has been WAY overblown for schools that aren't Oregon.

I'm just hoping that Adidas sees how much people dislike this move and really does all they can to at least keep it conservative. I doubt they would have that kind of wherewithal, though.

Kids wear Nike. They wear SOME UnderArmor. They rarely wear Adidas. I'm in my mid 20s and I don't even like Adidas stuff. Bottom line... its Nike and EVERYONE ELSE.

Sparky will always be around in some form. Remember when they tried to change the face and everyone had a heart attack(and deservingly so)? Sparky is still the face of Arizona State and I don't see them phasing him out anytime soon.

I'd be okay with Sparky being on the sleeves and the fork on the helmet or vice versa if it meant that goofy, ASU font on the sleeves would go away. Both logos can work together, it doesn't have to be an either/or thing.

It was really cool to see Arizona State look like Arizona State when they played U of A this year. I love Sparky helmet.
