sportzfan
I understand it's all about $$$ but Miami and Arizona State have made huge mistakes going to Adidas.No. They only made a mistake if they left money on the table.ASU left specifically because of how much of a pay raise they were getting from Adidas. It was more than double what they were making with Nike. This was Michigan's impetus for moving to the three stripes. They're so fed up with Adidas that they're about to walk from the sweet escalator clause that entitles them to the highest contract nationwide. Further, they'll likely take less money than the '09 deal to switch to Nike/UA next year.Obviously, schools have different endgames in mind.Michigan will still command one of the largest apparel deals in the nation, they are definitely going to get more than the 09 deal Nike was offering them then. Even if its not as much as adidas' deal they are still going to go to the highest bidder that isn't adidas.
TheStoicPaisano
Right, but even the largest contract in the nation could be less than the Adidas deal, and will likely be surpassed if cash-grabbing Steve Patterson at Texas jumps to UA. Michigan is leaving cash + a sweet perk on the table to walk away.
