Toronto Raptors rebrand

Talk about low standards.

Out of those, I would probably take the top one, but that's still not better than what they went with. The scratched T would be a decent secondary mark, the third logo screams Toronto Raptors too much(literally), and the last logo is a worse rendition of the final product.

I'm not one to say that they should have bailed on a designer in the middle of a project, but maybe they should have shopped around a little.

I'm one of the most pedantic people on this board and even I think you guys are flipping out over a tagline and a comma too much.

THANK YOU!! I'm very disappointed after reading through this thread.

"We the North" is a play on "We the People", the preamble / first three words of the U.S. Constitution.

"We the People" has become a three word phrase that pretty much summarizes the entire constitution. Therefore "We the North" is, in essence, a three word phrase / preamble / battle cry that summarizes an entire imaginary document. The contents of that imaginary document would essentially be explaining how the North (Canada) is independent from the powerful South (U.S.), but the North will still fight for their right to be recognized as champions over the South.

The Constitution would've done well to use better grammar, but despite that, "We the People" is almost a slogan now. "We The North" is a play on a slogan, and therefore is grammatically correct. Only a few people in the basketball community seem to know this, so hopefully this post can enlighten the ones who don't know so that they can spread this info.

TL:DR, "We the North" is grammatically correct because it is a play on a slogan. Let's stop debating this forever.

Do you guys get bothered by "A Diamond Is Forever" because "forever" is being used as an adjective rather than an adverb? Or what about the CCSLC thread "Bringing the Funny," where the obvious adjective "funny" is being used as a noun?

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Raptor in leaf is awesome, the clawed T as secondary....would sell merchandise like crazy all over the world, the Nets logo they went with is boring as hell, and will only sell in Toronto, and probably not much even there.

The Buffaslug was widely hated by Sabres fans but still topped sales charts. New gear sells, even if it's objectively terrible.

Okay, but then i choose to belive : 1. Merchandise sales were lies. 2. The slug appealed to kids. 3. people gave slug apperal as hate gifts to mess with friends and family. :D 4. Sabres were a number 1 team back then

.

That Raptor coming though the leaf is amazing, even has a Alien chestburster feeling to it. One of the best logos ever imo

Maybe it did appeal to kids (I don't know), but people were excited about the team (kinda) going back to blue and gold, and they won the Presidents' Trophy the year that they switched.

For those interested, some of what MLSE turned down in favour of the brooklyn-esque ball:

1) loved the fact that they at least thought about bringing back purple.

2) that dino coming out of the mapleleaf OWNS!! I agree with JasonfromMiami (a 1st) that this looks like a chestburster!! IMO this would've sold like Superman tshirts. Bad miss on MLSE part

3) "T" made from the slashes would've been a cool 2nd logo as mentioned also.

4) the Brooklyn style logo with the ripped ball and the Circle with raptor/snake looks aiight/meh but still > the final product.

Seriously, could the Raptors have botched this thing any more? This is probably the worst reveal I've ever seen, and apparently I'm not alone.

It's funny that they went from " :censored: Brooklyn!" to ripping their logo off. The maple leaf/raptor would have been my choice. Yeah, yeah, maple leafs and Canada but come on. Only Canadian team in the league? Owned by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment? It would have worked.

I don't get the Raptors and their infatuation with the Nets.
