2015-16 NHL Uniform and Logo Changes

So yes, in conclusion, aside from all the ways they are different they are very similar. I nominate this for the Fox News Stretch of the Year Award. ^_^

Homage is a bad word. Without the yoke, without the gold, without the other five things that make these jerseys different...the only thing in common is green and black. That's not really strong enough to be an "homage".

Fair enough.

By the way, there is such a thing as a subtle homage. Also: similar =/= the same.

Love the Ducks jersey. The only thing I would change would be the colour of the sticks in the logo. Yellow is not part of the colour scheme and doesn't belong. That was the biggest problem with the logo on the teal/eggplant set. The organization just seems to love shoehorning random colours into their sets.

I can only assume yellow was chosen as a colour because it looks like a stick. There are quite a few teams in sports with colours in the logos that don't appear anywhere else.

There is that, but since the logo was brought back for the previous third the sticks have been orange. Maybe there were visibility issues with them on an orange background. Having them yellow makes them pop a bit more, and I think that works in its favour.

No, he's saying that the only good thing to come from the revamp away from jade and eggplant was the webbed D, and even that is only good for a shoulder logo.

Exactly. Nothing at all wrong with the webbed D logo, but it's not strong enough to be a good primary logo IMO.

I'd be totally down for the Ducks using the mask as a full time primary, and the D as an often used alternate logo. They somehow fit together despite the age difference. And the mask is absolutely an iconic logo in hockey history to me now. It summarizes an era just as well as the spoked B or ornate Maple Leaf summarizes the golden age. The Ducks are a 90s cartoonish expansion team. Own it, if you want to own it, Anaheim. It looks good on ya.

Guys, look.

If we're talking about cartoony Ducks logos, you've got the shoulder patch and the Wild Wing jersey.

Cartoony? Yes.

Cartoony? Yes.

But when it comes to the primary logo? Especially in comparison to those two things...

Cartoony? No.

That orange third looks terrific. I actually like both logos, with a slight preference to the Webbed D. But the mask is just as strong a logo.

A lot are saying it should be the new home jersey. But how could these colors and striping work together on a white jersey? If you just color the orange in white, there would be very little orange left on the road jersey. Coloring the black stripes orange would look bad.

Going darker with the white jersey would look pretty good IMO. Maybe take the striping pattern from the previous white jersey to help us out?

Orange triangle and maybe orange numbers, and boom... A white version of that would be orange enough to fit.

If you made a white matching uni for the ducks orange third it would turn out like the preds white jersey from '11-'13 in terms of color balance. Lots of yellow on the homes, mostly blue on the away, but still worked well.

All you have to do is look at the original Mighty jerseys for your solution.

Just compare the use of colors on the old jerseys and the new one.

On the eggplant jersey, the Triangle was silver. On the white, it was green. You could almost make the connection with the use of those colors to what a road white would look like. Keep the sleeves practically as is, switch up an orange/white stripe or gold/white stripe, make the triangle on the white jersey orange, and BOOM. Road jersey.

Cartoony is, however, bad for the Senators logo...

I don't think any of their logos were particularly cartoony... Maybe the original 3D senator with the multiple skin tones, but even that seems like a stretch.

Unfortunately, the best logo in their history has never been used on a uniform. The 2007 update to the forward facing, centurion was the perfect logo for the team.

This is pretty cartoony to me, but the newer one isnt much better...

My quick and very crude attempt at what a white version of the Ducks' 3rd would be by switching the gold with orange on the sleeves. This way there is more than a just a little orange. Forget about the orange on the collar and the bits on the nameplate.

Even then, the Mighty Ducks shoulder patch wasn't even that cartoony, especially when compared to the Wild Wing jerseys.
