NFL 2015: A Mini-Series by DolphinManatee (San Diego Chargers **UPDATE**)

Hello everybody! I plan to showcase at least 5 NFL teams, I want to design 8 teams (one per division), and will design at most 10 teams. I will be redesigning their uniforms and football fields. So far I have 5 uniform sets and 1.5 fields done. The teams that are done, uniformwise:

-Miami Dolphins (AFC East)

-Jacksonville Jaguars (AFC South)

-New York Giants (NFC East)

-Seattle Seahawks (NFC West)

-Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFC South)

As you can see, I'm a bit geographically biased. :D I probably need help on deciding on a team (based on need and ideas) in each of the rest of the divisions, eventually. I hope you enjoy this mini-series.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First up is the Miami Dolphins (of course). Unpopular opinion alert: I actually love the new logo (in fact I think it is the best logo they came up with) and I love the new colors (including the blue/deep aqua). But I think the stripes need more orange, so I reproportioned the stripes from something like my signature (the stripe the Dolphins actually have less orange than in my sig, if you can believe it) to what you see in the concept. Also, there are a lot of stripes in this concept (count how many).

I skimped out on a few design rules imposed by the NFL, like the white-bottom socks rule, the single helmet rule (though so far I only broke this rule with the Dolphins), and the coloration of the NFL shield. There are also an idea with the belt that I thought I should try with this concept, see if you can figure it out.

Finally, I made my first ever font, just for this concept. I would like some feedback on the font (It might need a few tweaks, but overall I'm pretty happy about it. I think it looks better than their current number font.) I am also willing to give this font away as a free font after I'm done tweaking it.

Here is the concept (click to enlarge):

And here is a closeup of the white jersey, with the flywire design (special to the white jersey), the wordmark (I feel like this is a combination of their current and previous wordmarks), the NFL shield, and the back collar design:

The concept fields for the Dolphins will be shown after some feedback. Thank you. :)

(For some reason, I feel like I'm missing something. Hmmm... oh well.)

Suggestions for the other teams to make in divisions not listed in OP...

Detroit Lions (NFC North)

Cleveland Browns (AFC North)

San Diego Chargers (AFC West)

In the Dolphins concept I thought it was good but I thought the new font seemed buccaneer-ish. I like the font but I don't think it fits well with Miami. Are you using your new font just for the nameplate and numbers or are you making new wordmarks too?

8 stripes per uniform? (1 on helmet, 3 on jersey, 2 on pants, 2 on socks)

Why the stripe on the back of the collar?

I'm really liking the subtle touch of the back collar design

I completely agree. Great job on that.

The font is fine, but I'm not sure it really fits the Dolphins and their new logo. It seems more pointed while the logo is sleek and flowing (except for the sunburst).

The thing I like the least, actually, is the aqua helmet. The dolphin gets lost on it.

One other suggestion would be to get rid of all the wasted space in your presentation. The uniforms are much smaller than they need to be because you have left so much white space surrounding the uniforms.

Good job with the Dolphins! For the AFC North, I suggest the Bengals. They're in dire need of some changes (mainly a change to their number font, the end of number drop shadows, and the dissolution of the white side panels on their black and orange jerseys).

Thank you for the C&C. Here are a few responses to some of your comments:

-The back collar design is supposed to look like an "M" and be a top-down abstraction(?) of a dorsal fin (though the more I look at it, the more it resembles a tail fin [or flukes, if you want to be technical]).

-I use a template that was made by a user named andrewharrington, it is called "Speed Machine."

-I prefer to keep the aqua and the orange/coral separated (when they come in contact with each other, it looks visually jarring, IMO).

-I don't know what to do about the font. It seemed appropriate to me when I made it. I mean, it has more curves than their current font. I don't know.

Here are the concept fields. The bottom field is just for fun, nothing serious. The top field, however, is much more in line with reality, but with a twist (which includes colorful sidelines and numbers, and the custom font [bTW, does anybody know where to find a font at least similar to the NFL standard field number font, I don't know the name of it]). The top field would probably be used after the Hurricanes' season is over (which, fittingly, is around when Atlantic hurricane season is done). These fields may not be to scale. Here goes nothing:

Honestly, there are too many uniform and helmet combinations. This isn't NCAA. I would get rid of the orange pants and teal helmets. Multiple unifom combinations and helmet are a marketing ploy for young college kids. The NFL doesn't need to look minor-leaguish.

Otherwise, the uniform design I would give a 7.5 or 8 out of 10 (the orange needs to be more prominent) and teal facemask. Everything else is perfect.

College sports as we know them are just about dead. The lid is off on all the corruption that taints just about every major program and every decision that the schools or the NCAA make is only about money, money, and more money. We'll have three 16+ team super-conferences sooner rather than later, killing much of the regional flair and traditional rivalries that make college sports unique and showing the door to any school that doesn't bring money to the table in the process. Pretty soon the smaller schools are going to have to consider forming their own sanctioning body to keep the true spirit of college sports alive because the NCAA will only get worse in it's excess from here

I might sound like a broken record, but thank you again for the comments.

The aqua helmet and the colored pants on the colored jerseys were just for fun like the aqua-colored field, nothing serious. You can subtract them from your mind if you want to. My future concepts will be a bit more conservative.

Up next is the New York Giants. The main thing here is that I used a lighter-than-their-current gray pretty much everywhere there is typically white. It might be an unpopular decision, but I want to see your reaction. Other than that, it is a bit conservative. Here are uniforms:

And here is the field (Just one this time):

Any questions and constructive C&C is welcomed. :)
