Las Vegas Aces- NHL Expansion

Also you should put up one more team in West since in NHL, there are 16 teams in East and 14 in the West. So you just made a Las Vegas team for the West part. I could see Salt Lake City, Portland, or Seattle as potential expansion but it is up to ya! Just putting up an idea

I know other folks didn't like the "armpits" being colored but I liked the way that part of the design mimicked the shape of logo. Just my 2 cents on that. That alt looks great I'm glad you kept a simple B&W uni part of the set because like you said that commercial really shows how strong it can look.

Of the three I think the steel scheme is my favorite, brown intrigues me the most and olive I like more in concept than execution. But certainly either of them look like they could fit in the NHL and immediately be one of the best looking teams.

I step away from this board for a couple of days, and I come back and you're three pages into yet another great concept. Love the overall look. At first, brown was the one that stood out to me, even though it doesn't give me any Vegas or military vibe. The steel blue is the one that I currently like most if I had to vote on just one.

One thing I saw someone do with a concept is have a different aspect of their logo and color scheme used in three different ways. (I think it was a flamingo logo/color scheme with neon pink yellow and blue and black if you recall seeing it. I can't find it right now.) Anyway, what if you had three or four color schemes and/or versions of the logo for use in different situations? Not just a third jersey, but something more along the lines of "We use this version whenever we play teams from the Metro division. This one for teams from the Central division", etc. You've got four distinct card symbols that could all be made the primary shape within the same overall design. Or maybe instead of a triangle in the middle of the Ace, it can be one of the card suits. I know it's outside the box and bordering on crazy, but it feels like you're almost limiting this concept too much.

Granted, taking the Vegas motif too strictly leads to borderline parody, but the one thing I'm not feeling from this yet is "Vegas".

Shoot...you know what...the colors are all very pleasant but now seeing them side-by-side...I like the black look the best, it just looks "stronger". Too bad the Kings play just a stones throw away. But maybe it would play into part of a rivalry...a black & white rivalry. Would be interesting to see an in-game type image with the two teams playing.

Although I agree with fifty's post above...I actually like the black arm pits (with the steel blue color), I think it helps tie everything together.

I was gonna say the Black could easily be an alt without the BFTSOB issue. What you did for the alt is perfect.

I too would like to see Olive Green (I do like baby puke green from North Bay Battalion, but I'd go with a darker more "matte" approach) as well as that brown as an accent colour? Olive/Black/White/Brown could work well if done right and I think that's a perfect approach to a new team.

I do like that Gold set though too

I'm removing the black and gold options.

Black is too close to the Kings and I think that the brown, grey-blue, and now olive options are stronger than the gold...

However, I am going to have a black alt, and see about working in a metallic gold as a spot colour.

I also took out the black pits...

Stop. No more. the black Alt. should be the home. that one wins.

All three options are an improvement over the last jerseys and the originality of the schemes is appreciated. Grey-Blue is obviously the safest option but I think the Brown version is the most successful. Brown, Black and White is such an underused colour scheme and it really works well with your logo set. Looking forward to seeing the final set!

I agree with the 2 more western teams JM.

I did a Seattle Kraken concept a while back. Seattle should have a team IMO.

Can you try a black jersey with gold trim? Just to see how it looks? I feel like the black jersey is the most sharp, just needs another colour to balance it out.

Check out the next one. BBall...

See, I would go the other way. I like the black/white look, but to avoid the Kings comparison, I'd add a neon accent, like a blue.

The neon as a reference to the Strip.

...I'll have some neon stuff coming up, but for the most part I'll be staying away from "the strip". Thanks Dan.

Good to hear from you darkp...

The guys over at Puck Daddy (Yahoo Sports) suggested that the NHL would probably prefer an L.V. theme that DIDN"T revolve around the gambling/strip side of Vegas.

That's why I took an aviation slant to the "Aces" name. It's a reference to Nevada's "Air Force" history.

However, this is Vegas baby, and I like your ideas of using different colours and card symbols.

There's a wealth of Vegas imagery that can be used for special event nights, community ventures, fan clubs, merchandising, etc.

You got me thinking on a possible "Charity Casino Night" (house proceeds to charities), with special unis for the evening inspired by the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas Sign"...

The two front vertical stripes represent the two steel beams that hold up the well-known diamond-shaped display.

Thanks darkp.

I'd love to see some gold trim like you put on the bike when doing the promo stuff.

I love how the Aces mark looks on the motorcycle with gold as an outlining color added to the grey/black/white scheme. Even if it was just that, outlining the logo and maybe in the numbers as well. A minimalist touch would make it stand out more.

I took your advice guys and added a touch of metallic gold and a tad of steel-grey-blue to the logos.

Smaller applications of the logo would probably remain B&W, but larger versions could use the spark.

Again gold would be used sparingly (as more of a "spot" colour really).

I tried to put "gold" into the stripes and numbers, but the unis started to look a little too much "old-style-Washington-Capitol-ish"...

Thanks BK. Black stays as an alt.

Hi #1...I think the Battalion unis are pretty sweet also. I liked the brown and olive options, but the steel-grey-blue just looked a little more "Air Force".

This is pretty much the same as what I posted before. I just made the shoulder patches a little larger.

Here's the "Black Ops Uni"...

Thanks to everyone for the response.

The feedback helps out a lot in the development of a concept.

I could have gone brown, olive, or gold, and the unis would look fine, but the steel-grey-blue option got the most support, and I do think it does suit the aviation theme, a little more than the others.

To keep it unique, I think it's important to keep the colour a bit on the grey side. (There's a whack of blue teams in the NHL!)

So, with colours and logos set, I've got a couple of options for the uni styles.

The first set uses the "winged Ace of spades" as the primary with unique (since the Seals' days) football-style shoulder stripes...

*Fifty & BK...I tried some white pits.
