The poor man's spin-off of Tank's Super Bowl trivia is back for another off Broadway run. Let's do a quick setup for the new folk.

Since this is "old school" trivia, the most of the players will be from the 60's thru the 90's - note that it says "most players." Occasionally, I might throw in someone who played in the early 2000's. All players will have played in at least one Super Bowl. The easier the player, the tougher the clues and vice versa.

Let's play our game. We'll start with an easy one.

I. One of the greatest QBs of all time was my team mate.

II. I am on an elite list of players to accomplish this feat.

III. At times in the Super Bowl, it looked like there were multiple versions of me on the field.

IV. Some would argue that I played my entire career with the same team.

Who am I?

Jerry Rice?

Side note: can we guess the answers to each hint? That way we know if we are on the right track.

It's not Jerry Rice.

If you know the answer to one of the hints, odds are going to be pretty good that you know the player. If it becomes obvious that the original hints are too tough, I add new ones.

A couple things to think about when you're working the hints. Sometimes the hint number is relevant. The wording of the hints can provide...well...another hint.

Jamal Lewis

I. P. Manning in college

II. National Title and Super Bowl

III. At times in the Super Bowl, it looked like there were multiple versions of me on the field. ????? (Jamal and Ray?????)

IV. Only played for the Browns and the, um, Expansion Ravens. We all know he played for two different teams. Some players just have no loyalty.

The last clue is the one that directed me to the Ravens.

We have a winner. Jamaal Lewis is correct.

I. Was Peyton Manning's teammate in college at Tennessee.

II. Lewis is one of only seven players to rush for over 2000 yards in a season.

III. The 2000 Ravens Super Bowl team had three players with the last name of Lewis - Jamaal, Jermaine, and Ray.

IV. Played for both the original Browns/Ravens and the expansion Browns.

We'll play another round this evening.

Oooh...I see I was wrong on a couple of things...I thought he was older than he is and played with the "old Browns" (That would not have jibed with his playing with P. Manning and winning a national title, as was my reasoning)

Oh well. A win's a win.

I was thinking Bruce Matthews

I. Warren Moon

II. One of only four players to make a record 14 Pro Bowls.

III. This was the one that I couldn't figure out an answer for. Although, after looking it up, there was a backup OL named Jason Mathews (notice just one "t"), but he didn't play a down in the Super Bowl.

IV. Played his entire career with the Oilers/Titans.

Glad this is back.

Hard to believe that Ravens offense had so much trouble putting up points when they had Jamal Lewis, Priest Holmes, and Shannon Sharpe. I guess having Trent Dilfer as your QB with Brandon Stokely and Qadry Ismail as your best WR's doesn't help. The defense carried that team.

It's worse than that. Dilfer was the midseason replacement. They had :censored: ing Tony Banks playing QB until they benched him after a 4 game stretch that didn't see a single Ravens TD scored. (They didn't score one in Dilfer's first game either.)

Round II.

I. I was a participant in three of the most famous NFL postseason games of the 1980's.

II. In my lone Super Bowl appearance, I was a witness to a Super Bowl first - and second.

III. Of the four NFL teams I played for, only one of them has ever won the Super Bowl.

IV. Of the four NFL teams I played for, only one made the Super Bowl with me on the roster.

V. Of the four teams I played for, only one of them has never made the Super Bowl.

Who am I?

James Brooks?

We have our second winner. (I would have been a little disappointed if someone else had gotten this one, McCarthy. B) )

I. Brooks played for the Chargers in the famous overtime game against Miami in the 1981playoffs. He followed that up the next week when the Chargers played the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game known as the "Freezer Bowl." And Brooks played in Super Bowl XXIII which is known for Joe Montana leading the 49ers on a 92 yard game winning drive that started with 3:10 left in the game. Montana hit John Taylor for the winning TD with 34 seconds left in the game.

II. Super Bowl XXIII was the first Super Bowl to be tied at the end of the 1st half and the second Super Bowl to have a kickoff returned for a TD.

III. Brooks ended his career with Tampa Bay. The Bucs won Super Bowl XXXVII.

IV. Brooks only Super Bowl appearance was with the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII.

V. James Brooks played for the Chargers, Bengals, Bucanneers and Browns. The Browns are the only team of the four to have never made the Super Bowl. (and the way they're going, they probably never will)
