chrysleraspen08
It's a bit early, but since some of the 14-15 thread is discussion about the Plymouth Whalers move to Flint for next season and now that some of the logos are starting to be released, I thought I'd get this thread started. Currently, the only logo that has been released that I know of is the Guelph Storm 25th Anniversary logo. Also, for those who like looking at threads from previous seasons, the links are posted below.2014-15: http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/98442-2014-15-chl-uniformlogo-thread/2013-14: http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/92207-2013-14-chl-uniformlogo-thread/2012-13: http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/88212-2012-3-chl-uniformlogo-thread/2011-12: http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/80529-canadian-hockey-league-2011-2012/ Sporting Venue Count (for games): OHL: 19 (28 Total)- 770 games (after 18-19), MLB: 13 (15 Total), NHL:

Chewbacca
I apologize if this is old news but I've been wondering for a little while now if the Vancouver Giants have retired their black and grey alternate in favor of returning to the black jersey with the white stripes up the arms. Does anyone know if the Giants have in fact retired that jersey?

1clkgtramg
Did anyone NOT pick Flint Tropics? lol and I hope that Guelph uses their old Storm logo just for this season, I'm not the biggest fan of it - I actually love the current ones - but I'd like to see it on the ice again, as well as tailoring to the nostalgic crowd.... and $$$ US and World License Plate Redesign - Fixing the Elite Ice Hockey League - NHL to Soccer Crossover - European Hockey League Twitter
tigerslionspistonshabs
Hurricanes...really? How original. At least keeping the Whalers name would be unique, carry over some history and not share a name with the owner's NHL team and another CHL team. Tropics FTW but anything but Hurricanes. Just...blah.
tigerslionspistonshabs
The Flint franchise today filed five name possibilities, most of which are terrible and/or unoriginal: Pride (ugh), Phoenix (ugh), Sparks (wnba team), Vikings and...Tropics! chrysleraspen08
All of the names that have been submitted online so far have been posted. Some are pretty good, however (of course) some are just awful.http://www.minbcnews.com/sports/story.aspx?id=1161717#.VNo0ylp43J9 Sporting Venue Count (for games): OHL: 19 (28 Total)- 770 games (after 18-19), MLB: 13 (15 Total), NHL:
tigerslionspistonshabs
The fact that they've trademarked 5 names with the State of Michigan makes me think the contest is just for show.
1clkgtramg
Which ones were TM'd? The ones you mentioned earlier? They also have an option of colours and description of a logo to go with your choice of name. Why wouldnt they just keep 'Whalers?" There's just as many whales in Flint as there were in Plymouth. The reason they were called the Whalers to begin with was because of Peter Karmanos' ownership of the Hartford Whalers. Karmanos has sold the team to the group who are moving them to Flint, so the name holds no emotional value. Also, Flint being in the middle of the mitten, Whalers makes very little sense. At least in Plymouth there was a tie to Plymouth, Mass where there were actual whalers.I really really hope they don't go with Tropics. Of the 5 they registered Phoenix sounds the best, but I think there are far better options from the contest.I submitted Wildcats as an option. The Buick Wildcat was manufactured in Flint and was a big, tough, but sporty vehicle. There are no cat-mascots in the OHL so it would be unique. tigerslionspistonshabs
All terrible. I'm pulling for Tropics only because it's different and has some novelty, but in a vacuum it's a terrible name.
DelayedPenalty
All terrible. I'm pulling for Tropics only because it's different and has some novelty, but in a vacuum it's a terrible name. Tropics will draw attention 2 times; once when the team is named, and once when the team folds and moves. The time in between it will just be a stupid name after a terrible movie that I'm sure many people won't understand.

No matter the colour or the name, the people in Flint who want to watch hockey will watch it. If you refuse to support your home team because their main colour is teal, then Flint doesn't deserve a team. Now if having the Tropics come into fruition mean you get that attention at the start, then good; better than not having anything at all. Either way, I honestly don't see this Flint team being there for that long anyway, considering the move was so quick - is it Chatham, no, oh its Flint now, ok everyone vote. You don't start a long lasting team in that manner. But whatever, when the team is called Flint Vikings, no one will give a rats taint about them besides the people in Flint, merchandise is low, attendance is Brampton Battalion-like, etc... tigerslionspistonshabs
Wildcats, while there's a historical significance, is probably the most overused and generic name in sports in general. Of the 5 trademarked, Vikings is really the best. And it's completely unoriginal as well. Instead of Phoenix, why not Flint Firebirds? These stupid singular names sound like the AFL2. Pride? Come on. Sparks? I get it but no. It was also founded as a major lumbering/trapping settlement. I'm not suggesting Lumberjacks, but it's better than any name on that list. OMMF
Phoenix is the team in Sherbrooke of the QMJHL. Unless the CHL is going to go against the decisions they've made in the past, they are not going to allow 2 teams with the same name.
sportsfan
Well a OHL Team in Flint is most likely going to be called The Flint Tropics since the name is popular with the people who want to pick a name for a OHL Flint Team
