2015 MLB Season Thread with Postseason Discussion

Something like that happened to RA Dickey after he was drafted by Texas. A team doctor saw his picture and noticed his arm was hanging funny. It turns out he was missing his UCL. They initially offered him a signing bonus of $800k but he ended up signing for $70k.

Different issue entirely and my guess is his stock doesn't fall that much if any.

At this point pitchers are to baseball as to what running backs are to football. Anyone coming in is damaged goods even before they through a single pitch in the majors. An 18 year old getting Tommy John surgery is pretty common place these days. Sad but true. Even the ESPN article cited said two pitchers were drafted in the first round last year who had a Tommy John under their belt already. I think its a combination of guys not being taught right and playing in too many travel leagues.

There's 12 years old out there going 200+ innings a year at a competitive level. That's an insane workload and this is where it starts showing up. I'll give credit to the leagues for trying to cap innings and pitch counts, but the problem is kids are playing year round. They have no chance to rest.

The arm issue I think had very little if anything to do with the Astros pulling their offer as well. Like I said every pitcher these days is damaged goods. There's no way the Astros could have been that surprised by the MRI results. They probably just figured the comp pick next year was more likely to be better then Aiken. I don't think the thought process behind it went any deeper then that. Really, why would it?

I didn't realize that the demand for a breastfeeding spot at a baseball stadium was that high. Personally, I don't even get the point of bringing a baby to a game in the first place. Like said in the article they're loud and crowded. Not exactly the place I'd want to bring a baby to.

It's because the Reds have really been positioning themselves as the family option for professional sports in southwestern Ohio/Northern Kentucky. Weekend day games have a lot of families in the crowd, and yes, I've seen lot of babies at Reds games.

I wouldn't take a baby to a baseball game, but I've never had a baby. If there's a place where it can be changed/fed then that makes the decision for a family with a young child to go to a game much easier.

Yeah I don't get the bringing a baby to the ball game thing. seems like more of a hassle than it's worth. I get the whole symbolism of bringing your son/daughter to their first game, but that could be done just as easily when they're not still :censored:ting in their diapers and can actually remember the experience. It's like Bark in the Park night to me. Sure, you technically CAN bring your dog to the game, but why?

I don't have kids though, so I may be missing something.

If I had a baby, didn't want to pay for a sitter, and wanted to go to a baseball game, I'd go to the baseball game. Of all spectator sports, it's the quietest, attracts the least rowdy crowds, and requires the least amount of effort to pay attention to.

I think it's less about the child remembering the experience and more about a parent enjoying their life.

Arbitrator rules Josh Hamilton can NOT be suspended by MLB for his cocaine relapse. Arbitrator did not publish the reason why.

Despite that and based on the Angels' response to the ruling, I don't think Josh Hamilton takes the field once for the Angels this season. He's already going to be out with that long injury, but it seems the Angels are trying to completely distance themselves from it. They'll try to get him into rehab or whatever needs to happen, but I have my doubts he ever plays for the Angels again.

Sabean is no longer the Giants' GM. Replaced by Bobby Evans. He had a good run, but sometimes it's just best to move on.

The hell are you talking about? There's no moving on here. He got promoted to VP of Baseball Operations. He's now at the Friedman/Epstein level.

LAA is looking for financial relief in the biggest way.

They so want a way out of this. His 4 HR game started his end, or was it the quitting tobacco near the end of the season, or was it Nelson Cruz dropping the ball in the STL.

Or that he is a junkie.
