Wow, what a terrific start for NYCFC.

Wasn't it supposed to just be this out and out slam dunk that NYCFC would overtake lackluster RedBull NY as New Yorks' team? Brilliant way to throw a wrench in those plans.

This is a lot of crying over nothing.

It's not "nothing". City Football Group flat out lied about Lampard's contract. NYCFC supporters were tricked into thinking that Lampard was under contract with us. They've used him in promotional material, sold shirts with his name and number on them, and his signing was actually what brought me on board with the team (I actually got an NYCFC jersey for Christmas, and was planning on getting his name on it, but now I don't know). It's absolute bull :censored:.

Agreed - it's not nothing. Which is why the supporters group has been out front criticizing them. What's important is for City Football Group to learn that they can't run things this way.

And yet, they still landed that slam dunk you mentioned. ;)

But you can't even deny that this is a really terrible start. They haven't even kicked a ball yet and the charade of them being a legitimate club and not just a feeder for MCFC seems to have already been exposed. This is the type of move that could not only hurt the legitimacy of NYCFC, but the entire league. It's also a pretty shady move in how it circumvents BPL rules and regulations.

Isn't one of the biggest complaints about RedBull NY that they're essentially a schill for a larger brand? And now NYCFC is basically going to mirror that business model? Man, I really gotta feel for soccer fans in the New York metro area if that's the case.

Yeah, people were already lamenting that it wasn't the Cosmos who were moving up to the MLS. This who fiasco has gotta make that sentiment ring even more true.

Well at least there still is one actual club in NY that is independent at least. 1/3 ain't bad.

But at least the Red Bulls are honest about being nothing more than a tool of their corporate overlords.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

The problem with the Red Bulls is the same one the Metrostars had - they have the big scary city a huge middle finger in their desperation to be a middle-class suburban club. That's why this, though embarrassing and frustrating, won't stop them from being NYC's representative in MLS.

I've never been to Red Bull Arena, but I've seen it from the train between Penn Station and MetLife Stadium.

I wouldn't even call RBA "suburban." It's more a weird spaceship-looking thing planted in rustic downtown area in the middle of a swamp. There might be more on the other side of Harrison, but from the train, it looks like a bad idea.

They also don't :censored: with their fans the way NYCFC is with this whole Lampard situation. The people at the Etihad don't even care about NYCFC fans and their outrage as NYCFC tweeted about Lampard's game winner against Sunderland while the fans were stewing in outrage.

The thing is that I don't like railing against RBNY & NYCFC but :censored:. Choosing a team that you like in a sports league should not feel like deciding between a douche and a turd sandwich on election day.

Cubo Torres is staying in MLS, joining Houston. Would have liked to have seen him go to the Eastern Conference, but glad he's staying in MLS.

I would have liked to add a DP winger since Juninho and Sarvas are an excellent CM pair, but Steven Gerrard is Steven Gerrard. At the very least, he'll bring in more fans and revenue. Plus, we could still add a high-profile playmaker if a fourth DP slot is added during the ongoing CBA negotiations.

Nah. Chivas couldn't even see 12,000 season ticket holders from where they were.

I like how you think getting more people to buy a crap product makes it a better product. I look forward to your thread on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' unfair snubbing of the Madea films.

If Tyler Perry has a full slate of Paul Schrader scripts he keeps avoiding to pump money into Medeas, then sure. You think perhaps the three-digit attendances are somehow incidental to the reason Chivas was folded?

The stronger NYCFC becomes, the more money it makes, the more influence and resources it will wield within City Football Group. Simple enough.
