NFL Changes 2015

So, what's the deal with this apparent NFL uniform regulation guide? I feel like they ALWAYS talk about that crap and use it as an excuse to not do anything even remotely fun.

Such as... ?

They've always had fairly strict regulations when it comes uniforms. From limits on alt jerseys, to the amount of time a set needs to be worn before it gets changed, all the way to scrutinization on sock length, they've always had a certain set of rules they're pretty rigid about. It just seems like this season in particular they've kind of taken those regulations they've set for themselves and tossed them out of the window. Color Rush was sprung on us pretty last minute, and I don't know anyone who saw those strange Ravens pants coming. I'm happy that they're finally starting to relax on all that a bit, but every unusual out of the box move they've made uniform wise so far this year has been almost universally terrible.

And yet they won't let the Bucs wear their throwbacks anymore because they won't even compromise on helmet shells. It all just feels SO arbitrary and random. Like they're just throwing :censored: at the wall and trying to see what sticks.

As for Color Rush, we've known about this since July. They just didn't make a big push until it was ready for its debut.

But the one-helmet rule? That's your complaint? That has absolutely zero to do with the uniform regulations. I know we conflate the two on this board all the time, but they come from entirely separate places. Safety regulations and uniform regulations are entirely different.

Well, my main complaint is that they've been relatively strict on limiting alts in the past, and they seem to have let up on that significantly this season. It's not like they haven't ever had uniform programs that are a separation from the traditional looks, but there's usually a pretty solid reason to do so. Thanksgiving has usually been a weekend for throwbacks, so they've always been a bit more flexible there, and The AFL program they had a few seasons ago was one example too, but both had a lot more rhyme and reason than Color Rush does. I'm not usually much of a "truther" when it comes to this kind of stuff, but Color Rush comes off as supporting a lot of those fears people had about Nike coming in and messing up teams looks for the sake of their brand.

And I understand the helmet rule is different. I just still think it's stupid. Those guys cycle through so many different shells throughout the course of their careers. And honestly, It's not going to make much of a difference if your helmet is brand new or not when you bang your skulls into other people's skulls for a living.

Your prerogative to not like it, but it doesn't really belong in a conversation about uniform regulations. I'm sure the NFL would love to have teams like the Bucs wearing (and selling) throwbacks.

If anything, the one-helmet rule shows that the league's rules are on the whole less arbitrary, not more. They set the rule and stuck with it, even when inconvenient.

i want to hate the mustard pants. i really do. i hate the ravens. i hate their uniforms. i'm just a negative guy overall.

but i love it. that shade of mustardy gold next to purple is just fantastic. so unique. i'll take purple/mustard over indistinguishable purple/black any day of the week.

Actual metallic gold would still look out of place but better. There's just not enough of the good in the rest of the uniform to do this. It's like the Texans wearing red pants with blue jerseys or white jerseys for that matter. Not enough of that secondary color to break this out. Did they give any reason for these or they just threw them out there? Maybe a purple and white stripe would have helped

I like the addition of gold pants for the same reason I love James Madison University's look. But the fact that it has only been a trim color in the past makes the sudden addition of gold pants a little hard to swallow.

Plus, I was hoping to see black jerseys with the gold pants. Having only a black helmet, IMO, only allows for black or white pants if worn with a black or purple jersey. Maybe purple pants, too. I like the idea, just not the execution.

I kind of feel like this shade of gold is too much of a "classic" color (if there is such a thing) to be used in an otherwise modern uniform set. I don't know, since it's so close to the Saints' throwback gold, I'm getting that feeling. But no matter the reason, the biggest problem with these pants is that they seem out of place with the rest of the uniform.

Not sure I'd put this on Nike - has the Ravens' gold ever been a sharp metallic? I thought it's always been mustardy.

EDIT: never mind. Looks like it used to be much brighter.

Not sure that metallic sheen would really help this color. Works better in this scheme as an accent than something as prominent as pants.

Those pants are gross. This would be like the Dolphins springing blue pants on us. Just because you use a color as an accent doesn't mean it's a good idea to make an element as prominent as the pants that entire color. Like, why, Baltimore?

The NFL needs to put a bottle on all these extras.

Also, typical Nike to pull a change out of nowhere and then compound the bad idea by making an inexcusable design choice along with it. There is no reason to change the striping pattern to purple-black-purple. Looked like a single gross purple stripe.

Also that shade of mustard isn't attractive and from the TV view the mustard pants stuck out like a sore thumb because from a distance you can only see white, purple, and black.
