11th-hour deal will save the glorious Oakland Raiders, especially if they keep winning. The stupidly wealthy Bay Area won't lose a sports team to Foreclosure City U.S.A.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

From the hearing, it appears that UNLV may pay the most rent per game than every other NCAA team who shares a home football facility.

The legislature seems happy to leave the rent up to the Raiders/Adelson and the number which they told the senate was $250K/game!

Temple pays $1M/year to use Lincoln Financial Field.

South Florida pays $145K/game plus $2.50/ticket for each game at Raymond James.

SDSU pays about $100K/game in rent for Qualcomm.

UCLA pays 8 percent of ticket sales per year to Pasadena (Rose Bowl). Membership fees for Rose Bowl lounges are be split between Pasadena and UCLA. The school will retain the first $250K of revenue, which will increase by 3 percent each year, while the rest will be paid for Pasadena’s debt service.

The Liberty Bowl is like $70K/game for Memphis which included the videoboards.

Done deal. I honestly don't see Oakland having any chance to save this team. There's no chance really the NFL will say no to the team move either imo.

They could still cling to the "don't want to be associated with gambling" excuse, but in 2016 that's really not relevant.

I'd like to see them go back to LA, but if that can't happen, then this probably makes the most sense.  Unlike the silly hockey team, I think this could work, and provide for a Super Bowl in Las Vegas, which is where I think it should be held every year anyway.

Little harder to do when the Rooney family owns horse racing tracks with casinos, the Dolphins took naming rights from the Seminole tribe, both Jerry Jones and the Kraft family have personal stakes in DraftKings and the rest of the league takes sponsorship money from both of the big two DFS companies.

Argument: a franchise is worth more in the Bay Area than it is in Las Vegas and the league should facilitate, or at least preserve, the opportunity for someone to buy the team and better capitalize on the market. The league already erred in sacrificing Los Angeles for St. Louis and Houston for Nashville and corrected both mistakes. This would be another mistake to ultimately correct.

Is the second franchise in the Bay Area worth more than it is in Las Vegas?  Maybe, but if so, not as dramatically as if we were talking about a one-team market.

I'm not psyched about the Raiders leaving California, but if there's one positive here? It's that the money-printing behemoth that is the NFL will hasten the end of the NHL's Las Vegas pipe dream.

I mean it's too perfect. The NHL, constantly playing catchup to the other pro leagues in the United States, finally gets ahead of everyone and taps Vegas first.

Who follows them there immediately afterwards? The NFL.

Haha! Great job Gary. Jack :censored:

Why is there so much desire to see the Las Vegas NHL team fail?  Not just from you, but from others on here.  I ask this on the condition of not getting some response of "I'm mad Quebec City didn't get a team." or "Maybe their failure will lead to Quebec getting the team.".

I think many of us have been really curious for years to see if Las Vegas can handle a sports team that has 40-80 home games in a season.  We had our chance, even if it was the sport we least expected to have a team there.  Now we're just going to have an incomplete answer again should Las Vegas get an NFL team.  We'll still never really know if Las Vegas can support a 6-month, 41-81 game home schedule because the NFL has moved in.
