I'm just thrilled the StubHub Center experience will continue for that much longer. It's going to be so awesome.

Lol, seriously? So does that mean we're stuck waiting another year for the Rams to finally come to their senses and change their set?

Potentially.

Of course, if merchandise is already being produced, they might HAVE to change.  Sort of like the Brewers getting new threads in 2000 to coincide with the opening of Miller Park, which was delayed to to the construction tragedy.

It's where I sit.

When did I ever tell you, "well you may be fine with it, but everyone in San Diego hate them because they're terrible?"

Neutral party here - I got that vibe from it.

That's the very first thing that came to mind when I heard about this.

There's a few tweets that say that the option to go ahead with a rebrand in 2019 are still on the table:

My money's still on when the new stadium opens (now 2020), but maybe they can go ahead with it. Granted, I still don't see the reason why they couldn't at least go to the Royal/Yellow throwbacks at home full-time (even with the incongruity of Navy/Gold/White on the road), but the NFL loves its micromanaging.

Either wait until 2020, or throw it into warp speed to get everything ready for 2018. I know they always say it's a two year process and blah blah blah, but there shouldn't be a reason a team can't change with a full 15 months before the start of the target season. 2019 seems like the worst of both worlds now... don't get the glory moment of new brand with new stadium, but still make the fans wait longer than necessary.

The rumor mill has the Rams thinking about pulling the plug on Goff after next season.  If that's true, they might as well wait for 2020 for the whole franchise relaunch since they're going to hit the reset button next offseason anyway.

Wonder what would happen if they miraculously got the name to stay in Oakland. 2019 will for sure be an odd year with no lease or available stadium for the Raiders.

That's a week old story.  The city and county are basically pursuing the suit in the hope the Raiders/NFL pay off the remaining $83M in bonds outstanding on the Coliseum.

They're also asking the Warriors to pay off the $55M in bonds outstanding for Oracle Arena with the team refusing.

Bumping, since there are reports that the NFL is still concerned about the Chargers' long-term viability in Los Angeles.

Sources: NFL owners concerned about Chargers in LA (ESPN.com)

Shocking, I tell ya.

NEW YORK -- It's no secret that the Los Angeles Chargers have struggled to gain a foothold with fans since moving from San Diego last year, and the problems are hitting them on the bottom line.

Sources told ESPN's Seth Wickersham that the viability of the Chargers in Los Angeles was a topic of discussion at the owners meetings here Tuesday and Wednesday. Multiple owners, who requested anonymity, said Wednesday that the topic was not brought up formally in the meetings but that there has been a lot of discussion on the side about the extent to which the Chargers are struggling to build a fan base in Los Angeles.

The Chargers are currently playing in the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The venue seats about 30,000 people, which makes it about half as big as even the smallest NFL stadiums. Their plan is to move into the new stadium the Rams are building in Inglewood in 2020 and to function as a sort of "tenant" of the Rams rather than an equal partner in the venture.

Sources told Wickersham, however, that the Chargers are expected to revise their initial Inglewood revenue goal from $400 million down to $150 million.

Part of the lowered revenue projection could be tied to lower ticket prices in the new stadium. The Chargers on Wednesday announced prices for about 75 percent of their tickets for the new stadium when it opens in 2020, and they are advertising "more than 26,000 seats priced between $50 and $90 per seat, per game with an associated Stadium Seat License payment of only $100 for each seat."

And that's what the NFL cares about.

400M down to 150M isn't just a "revision", it's catastrophic.  Even 400M seems lower than what I'd expect an NFL team in a large market to generate, let alone 150M.

The Raiders and Rams have long history and strong fanbase in Los Angeles. The Chargers played one year in LA prior to their move  so virtually no history, or fanbase. Had it been the Raiders joining the Rams in LA I think the story may have been very different than what we are seeing with the Chargers. I dont think the Chargers should have left San Diego. Where could the Chargers go if they dont stay in LA? Depending on what happens with the stadium measures on the ballot for November they could have a chance to return to San Diego. With the Raiders going to Las Vegas, they could see about a new stadium in Oakland but the Coliseum is out of the question at this point. I dont think Sacramento would be strong enough to support an NFL team, but I know they tried to lure the Raiders I think in the late 80s/early 90s. Portland, San Antonio, or Orlando would be other options.
