Designing a Jersey for Production

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has ever designed a jersey for production before. I work for a baseball team as a designer, and have had many years of digital and print experience, but have never designed a jersey.

My team is going through Wilson and due to poor communication on their reps part, I am not sure how to go about designing with very loose outlines. The rep basically told us they need a vector, any size, but have not responded to further questions. I called Wilson directly and they told me to speak with a rep, go figure...

I would like to get started working on designs but want to be sure I am not wasting my time with files that won't work. Does anyone have any advice on sizing, settings, templates, etc. ?

Thanks for your help!

-Derek

If you ask for a template to create your uniform they may give a template. Not sure how Wilson works, but It would be easier for them to have you do all the grunt work then they modify and clean it up. You may have years of digital and print experience, but vary rarely will I see print files that I can send to the printer without fixing things, same probably goes for Wilson. Please work in vector, I can't tell you how many times I see raster images masked in Illustrator when it's just a simple gradient.

Like GoNordiques said, ask wilson for a template. It will likely be a dumbed down version of their production version, so you are really just positioning your graphics, and they will have their production people do the tedious stuff.

And again use vector files.

In addition, I've added information and pictures explaining how I wanted certain aspects such as patches to look on the uniform. I worked with Hopco Sports on a custom jersey though, so make sure they can use certain materials ahead of time and still have it look how you want it to.
