San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins logo theory

Hello i recently thought about a theoy I dicorverd with the logo och San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins.

This only makes sense if its the old Sharks logo, first of both teams use a triangle in there logo and in the Sharks logo coming through the triangle crushing that stick and on the Penguins logo its a penguin skateing in front of a triangle with a stick. What if on the Sharks logo that shark just have swallow the penguin from the Pittsburgh logo and then crushning its stick?

I know this is very farfetched because the Sharks was founded in 1991 and 1967 and I´m guess that Sharks got its logo 1991 and couldn't have any rivary back then. Also i dont know if sharks eat penguins that often eather.

But what do you guys think of this little theory and look at these two logos!

The Penguins won the Stanley Cup the year the Sharks entered the league so to emphasis how tough the new team was, the designers of the lower had the logo look like they had eaten the previous year champion.

So this is less of a theory and more just canon, what happened.

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

I think that more teams should adopt logos depicting their mascot eating the defending champion.

I'll admit - I'm going to accept this as fact, even if only because it's way more fun than the other likely explanations.

...all I know is that original Sharks logo should never have changed. That thing is top 10 all time any sport imo.

Disagree a million % + 20. Just look at the tape on the stick! It was designed by someone that clearly had never seen a hockey game.

I like it better than their current mark, but it needs some significant tweaking before it can be taken seriously.

Interesting theory. Impressive that you paid much attention to details. +1

Pittsburgh has used the "skating penguin" logo since 1968, when it debuted on the crest of both home and road jerseys. So I doubt there is any dislike between the Sharks and Penguins because, as pointed out, San Jose entered the NHL in 1991.

However!

There could've been a slight disdain for the Penguins by hockey fans/owners in the Bay Area. The Penguins swept the Oakland Seals in the 1970 NHL playoffs, 4-0. That was the last time the franchise qualified for the playoffs while in the Bay Area. Could be an indirect sign?

Coincidence?

I think their current logo is so much better. And how many times does a designer get to go back and tweak his original design after learning about the sport?

There is a reason for the triangle design:

I've always assumed both Pittsburgh and San Jose really just put their logos in front of a triangle mostly because it looked better, then came up with a justification after the fact.

The fact that people prefer the old logo to the current one absolutely baffles me. The current logo is the same idea, except much cleaner.

It's like preferring this Habs logo:

To this one:

Well, clearly the Canadiens are eating the Sport of Hockey, so it just goes to prove the original theory correct.

When the Buffaslug first debuted we had a thread where every other NHL logo was depicted murdering the Buffaslug in some way (mostly stabbings). If someone cares to dig that up I wouldn't mind.

Am I the only one liking the "Buffaslug" logo ^^?

I believe you are. As a Buffalonian, I forced myself to like it when it debuted, but the more I saw it, the less and less I liked it.
