I'm not into rugby in the U.S., but what is the Pacific Rugby Premiership?

This league got nice jerseys, except that every home shirt (except one) is either green or navy.

I'm a simple person, I have a pixelated David Beckham as profile photo since 2010.

Does this league follow the rugby union code or the rugby league code? I'm heavily leaning on it being rugby union because of what Americans refer to as "rugby" is most likely union, and also the roman numeral for 15 appears on the website. The only thing throwing me off is that the word "League" appears at the end of the title. (I hope someone else understands what I just typed.)

Anyways, I hope there is a team in Florida. (There is not a chance in hell that is going to happen, nobody trusts us, or something like that.)

It's looking like it will be union. As for them putting "league" into the name... I think that is just to clarify here in the US, it's a pro league.

Teams...

More than likely these teams are going to play in NFL stadiums or big college stadiums. Where rugby is an outside sport, you can cancel out NFL domes (unless there is a big college team really close by).

My prediction:

Los Angeles - LA Coliseum

Chicago - Soldier Field

Denver - Invesco Field

New York - MetLife Stadium

Boston - Gillette Stadium

Tampa Bay - Raymond James Stadium

Dallas - Cotton Bowl

San Francisco - Levis Stadium

That will probably be the first couple years to get support.

If they play at such large venues, they're dead before they even start.

Exactly. Too much rent in those stadiums. Raymond James is $150K for an event like that as the A11FL signed before they went away a little over a year ago. The Coliseum is at least 10% of the gross ticket sales or a minimum fee, whichever is greater.

You got a good point. Maybe MLS or college lacrosse stadiums?

Denver would most like be at Infinity Park, since it is rubgy-centric.

However, this does not bode well for them.

The Independence Cup Series will be a legacy event held annually in the U.S.A. Commencing on August 1, 2015 RugbyLaw will present the first annual Independence Cup fixture. The NRFL "Rough Riders" will host the ten-time English Premiership Rugby champions and twice European Cup winners, the Leicester Tigers.

Venue to be announced during the month of February, 2015 and tickets will go on sale via Ticketmaster.

Only a few hours left in the month of February to actually announce things.

Plus, the very first Independence Cup was supposed to be at Gillette Stadium....in 2013!

I'll take municipal parks for $1000 Alex.

I have attended the combine for this league and have a bit of knowledge about what's going on with it. I know they plan on having 6-8 teams to start and with the league being based out of Minneapolis there is a good chance a franchise will be located there. I know New York, Boston, Houston are also being considered. They have been trying to get former NFL players to crossover as their talent pool.

This league already has one strike against it in that it will play full-fledged rugby, rather than Rugby Sevens (which is much better a product to pitch to television, and to fans, if done right).

As with any professional sports league, its survival will hinge on cost containment. If these guys plan on playing their games in anything more than leased-out Division II football stadia, they're doomed from the outset. Even with the television exposure Rugby Sevens will likely have in the U.S. thanks to Rio 2016, (i) it won't translate into the 15-man version, and (ii) attendance figures and TV ratings for a professional league (of any version, including 7's) will be nominal at best.

If they go into this understanding all that, however, and have an MLS-style plan that looks at building the sport over the next quarter century rather than focusing on things fiscal quarter to fiscal quarter, maybe they can build something.

The strike against them is their inability to even stage one d@mn game, less form a league. They failed in 2013, spent two years getting "interest free loans" in the form of combine registration fees and still cannot meet their own timetable.

Sevens matter little as well, just act Mike Keller of USFL/XFL/A11FL failures, err fame. His "Rugby Grand Prix" has been stillborn even longer.

I know what you're saying. I have been watching the NRL for years now. Rugby league is a better game than rugby union. Faster-paced, easier to understand - IMO just a better product. I urge all of you to check out rugby league on youtube, especially the National Rugby League from Australia/New Zealand. I prefer the NRL to the National Football League. All other codes of football are played at a snail's pace compared to rugby league. This testimonial is coming from a Canadian who enjoys just about every sport under the sun.
