Vancouver Canucks

Their Blue & Green scheme is bearable but don't ever forget their various atrocities from 1980-2007

I'll be the first to admit the Canucks have had their fair share of abominable jerseys, but never had a good look? Come on. They have the best colours in the league and the striping looks great. They have an awful logo, but overall its a pretty good uniform.

Thank you. The 1997-2007 jerseys were also pretty sharp in their own way.

They were definitely the Canucks' best-executed set. The orca is the only good logo the team's ever had (Yes, it's a good logo. Canadians are insane.) and it works better with the double blue and red than the blue and green, even though blue and green is the better looking color scheme. Plus no stupid arched wordmark.

It is a good logo. For a junior C lacrosse team called the "Canuxx"

I'll be that guy: the San Diego Padres.

While I do personally wish to see them back in brown someday, not one of their myriad of looks over their existence has ever looked particularly remarkable to me.

Seconded
The 1974-75 road jersey was perfection. Unfortunately it was worn with waistband pants. But pair it with belted pants, and you have magnificence in brown and yellow.

the current Rockets jerseys are a J-O-K-E. Of course this is Adidas (previously Reebok's) doing, and that alone makes them look downright terrible, I wouldn't buy them for a penny if they were on sale for that much. Hopefully, Nike or UA gets the new apparel deal because if anybody needs a massive overhaul it is the Rockets. Wake me up when they finally make jerseys that I will actually like.

Skip to my lou, T-Mac, and Yao, what a cast of characters. Honestly, I always liked this look for them as long as they had Yao. It didn't make any sense for them to keep it after he retired though. I bet Mitchell & Ness can't wait to cash in on these in the Chinese market once they get replaced.

It's absolutely CRAZY to me how far those Rockets uniforms have fallen. I remember a LOT of people (including me) absolutey loving them when they first came out. But MAN have they aged poorly.

Cleveland Indians and Indiana Pacers

The Indians have been around for 116 years (115 that they can admit - they have to disown the 1900 minor league season) and have had a wide variety of uniform designs and you dislike all of them?

Must be an issue with navy blue. :D

Their looks haven't been terrible but there is not one single look that I have seen that I liked.

(I don't count the North Stars and I personally think that, despite it being an unpopular opinion, the current Stars look is ugly and weirdly overrated on this forum.)

Ugly, no, overrated, yes. The previous set was so terrible that any return to color would have been welcome. Unfortunately, this return has cheap-looking single-layer numbers, no gold, a flawed logo, and the feel of those douchey St. Patrick's Day Hawks uniforms. Textbook case of nowhere to go but up.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

That's a bit different than saying that a team has looked terrible for their entire history. You may want to take a look at the Indians entry in the HOFs "Dressed to the Nines" database before mentioning them in a thread of teams who have "looked terrible their entire existence"

I can see someone saying that about the Browns. If someone doesn't like the team's look through last year, they probably don't like any of them. They haven't changed too much.

The Cavaliers have changed so often and so radically that they probably have something for literally everyone.

Ravens have some good elements to their uniform, but the number font, purple on black, and use of gold (instead of silver) with purple and black just ruin them.

I actually like the Titans unis outside of the helmet stripe.

Rockets have never looked great, but have been decent.

The Thunder have a motion sickness inducing lack of contrast and an eye-strain inducing number of colors in their uniform.

The Stars were mediocre until their current set, which is awesome (simple without looking like a minor league practice jersey).

Also ditch the taco bell cap then you might have an argument. Same goes for it's fellow home uniform. Those uniforms were defeated by the crappy taco cap and the stripped waist.

I disagree about the Rockets. They have had pretty consistent uniforms throughout the decades (the 90's uniforms were good at the time). Although I like their current uniforms, I think they've had them long enough and I absolutely wouldn't oppose a return of the gold.

Dolphins Dynasty, you were one year old when the Rockets went to their 90s uniforms according to your profile. Take it from someone who was first becoming immersed in pro sports when those uniforms were in their "prime." They were most certainly not "good" at the time.

I feel like the late 90's Rockets were a tale of a great idea, but very, very bad execution (though I must admit as a 90's kid, I do have a nostalgic soft spot for them). I loved that they tried to emphasize the space theme more, they just went way too far with the futuristic look. I really think that if they'd have went with full pinstripes instead of the larger fading stripes, and put just the word mark on the front rather than the logo (which would mean centering the numbers underneath, too), they'd have come out a whole lot better. Not a perfect uniform, but a better one.

Now that I think of it, I'm not sure I really know what kind of identity I'd want Houston to have. The title-winning set was good, but I feel it really didn't take advantage of the branding opportunities associated with "Rockets". It wasn't bland, but it also wasn't a very compelling set, either. The "pajamas", as aforementioned, just went way too far but seemed to embrace "Rockets" more. The current set also achieves the purpose of evoking the space theme well, but also is getting to be very dated. There's something good or admirable, but something either bad or not so good with every set they've ever had. All in all, I don't know that I'd want them to stay where they are, but I don't know how much I'd want them to go back to anything else, either.

So that leaves blowing it all up and starting over, right? But that would leave Houston with it's 4th separate, distinct identity, and that just waters down any sort of brand equity further for them....geez, what DO you do with Houston? *scratches head*

I don't see what being a 90s kid has anything to do with it. I fit that definition and I hate that look. When I was younger? I just thought it looked silly. That they went to something so cartoonish and so destined to be dated after winning back to back championships just adds to the list of why those unis were a bad idea. No, the championship era look didn't emphasize space, but so what? Not every logo and uniform has to be that literal. It was a classic, unique look that worked. There's nothing wrong with that.

Oh I'm not saying the nostalgic effect made it a good uniform - like I said, the elements of it were taken way too far. The "soft spot" I have for them is purely nostalgic and nothing more (and no, I wouldn't want it to hit the court again). All I'm saying is I don't think the idea was as bad as it has been made out to be (from a purely design standpoint, not historical). It was the execution in my eyes that destroyed any chance of it working.

And that's true that not every uniform or logo has to be literal, I guess it's just a personal preference thing for me rather than a design rule. The title set wasn't a bad uniform by any means, I just have personally always found it underwhelming considering the team name. Even at least a rocket on the shorts rather than the "Houston" or "Rockets" scripts would've helped it greatly to me. Get that happening and you've got a fire going. As they were though? An okay-but-nothing-more set in my eyes.

I'm not opposed to an update of the title uniforms. I'd say they need to keep the really unique wordmarks, and the preference of red and white with gold trim (ie don't go overboard with the gold). Anything beyond that? Lots of room to work with. I've always liked the general identity of the team from the championship years, but I've never been fond of the logo. Something with more concrete rocket imagery with the logo set while keeping the general spirit of the championship uniforms would be ideal.
