Marvel's Avengers football uniforms (60's versions!)

A few of you might remember a few months back I had a thread going called "DC's Justice League Football uniforms (60's version). If you didn't see it, or want to see it again, you can find it here;

http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/101612-dcs-justice-league-football-uniforms-1960s-version/

Anyway, I had some fun with it, and got some nice feedback, but eventually just ran out of characters. So here is an offshoot. (Kind of an obvious one, I suppose.) I'm going with characters from Marvel Comics "Avengers", but once again, only characters from the 60's and all done in 60's style football uniforms. This is the team and visuals I'm after...

And here's the first few teams...

I'm not even close to being a fan of football, but may I say I just saw your DC concept, and it was lovely. Great work, and a very smart/innovative idea for a concept. It would also be nice if you keep continuing the path on this series and do a modern Football Uniforms take on DC and Marvel together. Would love to see what you can do.

Thanks. The kind words are much appreciated.

I've thought about modern versions, but I believe there's already been a few threads along those lines. Also, my modern designs have a decidedly retro feel to them anyway, so I'm not sure how much different (other than the uniform template) they'd really be.

I did have the idea to possibly track a few of these uniforms forward... do a 60's version, than a 70's version, than 80's, etc... almost like an evolution. Could be fun.

That would sound great. Every designer has their own taste when it comes to jerseys, and it's much more clear why you decided to do the 60's, but I think an evolution would look amazing, mostly with the vast change of comics and their character designs.

Very sorry I'm not able to give any C&C. As I stated before when it comes to North American sports, ironically I'm not too into them.

Love the Thor uniform! Definitely my favorite along with Captain America.

Have you considered making the back of the Thor jersey red to simulate his cape?

It was difficult to figure out in that case what to use as a secondary color, red or gold. The hard part for me with this series (like the Justice League one) is how to keep the uniforms looking properly "60's" and still incorporate all the costume's colors. Generally speaking, 60's uniforms only had two colors plus white, and superheroes have no such restraints.

With Thor, here's what I was faced with... dark blue tunic, sky blue decorations on the tunic, bright blue leggings, a red cape, a silver helmet, and gold and black boots. Way too many colors. And since I'd already done quite a few red/blue superheroes, I decided to emphasize the gold instead. Again, if I ignore the 60'd angle, and get a little wacky (which I kinda did with Captain America), I could stretch a bit, but I'm trying to keep it within the decade's perimeters.

The Hulk was a challenge. There really isn't anything there in terms of a logo, or even a design. Just a half naked green guy in ripped pants... purple pant, at that! But then I decided the randomness and rawness could be the way to go. So the Hulk uniform looks like it was put together from left overs from a couple late 50's high schools... on purpose.

Then, Iron man. I realize in Avengers #1 he was wearing the clunky all-gold armor, but tht doesn't give me anything to work with, and by Avengers #4 the early version of the red/gold showed up, so I'm running with that. Also, it occurred to me the Iron Man face design is vaguely reminiscent of a Princeton wing helmet, so there you go.

Make the helmet look like his helmet, also that would be awesome for the (look down)

What it there was a "50 years later: NIKEifyed uniforms too? You could also have the Iron man alt be a costume of him.

For the Hulk jersey, it feels awkward having the helmet number in black, when the number on the home is white. Same goes with adding a black stripes on the purple pants, maybe make it white also or green, but I don't know how that will work.

I tried the purple against the green, but it was a bit of a nightmare. I thought about white for the black elements (in fact, that was my first attempt) but it looked a little plain. I went with black because I was after a sort of intentional mismatch, to go with the character who's always a complete wreck himself. My thought was, if the Hulk actually designed a football uniform, how much sense would it actually make? (That question seemed a little more normal at 1 AM.)

So what you're trying to say, is that your imagining these jerseys as how the character would see them (Like the hero designing his or her own uniform). Or is this just for the Hulk, so you can show his reckless character?

Hmm. More the second, I guess. It really isn't all that deep, TBH :)
