Movin' to the Sunshine: The 2015 NBA Offseason Thread

With the playoffs nearing Round 2, most teams are now in off-season mode. We have an upcoming lottery that will surely take Minnesota to #3 or #4, the Thunder coaching situation, and as always (and the inspiration for the thread title), free agency.

It's also offseason time for Kevin Love, who I would expect to see in a good-weather market. Out for an extended period, he should be available just in time to start his season, but where?

Donovan heading to OKC and the franchise begins its inevitable slip to mid-tier status.

The Thunder's window is so clearly closing and they just brought in a guy with zero NBA coaching experience. Some college coaches thrive in the NBA -- Larry Brown and now Brad Stevens come to mind -- but many don't.

Seems like you'd want a guy who is proven working with pros and can get that team over the hump. Tyronn Lue seems like a better choice at this juncture. Or anyone like that.

The Seattleite in me is okay with this, but the NBA fan in me is disappointed the Thunder never really met its potential. To that end, maybe people can see how hard it is putting a dominant team together year after year and maybe appreciate the Spurs a little more.

Pels give Monty Williams the axe.

A lot of people don't seem to like this move, but I agree with it. That roster is finally starting to come into form, and the last thing they need is Monty Williams flubbing up games for them. He did a pretty awful job in the Warriors series, game 3 especially, and I'm not sure he was ever gonna be the guy who brought the most out of that roster.

So who do the Pelicans hire now? Scott Brooks, maybe? You know the Coach Cal AD reunion rumors are gonna be flying.

Good move on the Pelicans' part. Reminds me of what the Warriors did last year. Obviously there were personal issues that worsened his relationship with the organization, but Mark Jackson was never going to win it all, so why not move on? I don't know that the Pelicans have the talent to make a GS-like jump next year, but Williams was only going to hold them back.

Monte wasn't great, but he didn't trade two #1s for Jrue Holiday who has played 34 and 40 games in the last two seasons, let go Omar Asik to UFA, and then signed an illmatched Tyreek Evans.

Dell Demps did in addition to signing John Salmons and getting Jimmer.

Then the stage is set for Tom Thibodeau to coach another Chicago product and work for another idiot GM. It'll be perfect because half the state is named Thibodeau.

Am I in the right place for Bulls fans?

Sadly, yes. And you know what, I'm fully fine with Thibs getting tossed. Yes, he was a good coach, but this year the defense sucked and that was his calling card. There were too many instances of him playing guys into the ground and seemingly trying to kill them. Most of all, this last series was disgraceful, and multiple people should be fired for that alone. People overestimate this Cleveland team. If they had Love and a healthy Irving? Sure. But this was LeBron and several steaming piles of crap. Thy made :censored:ing Mozgov look like Robert Parrish. The Cavs team that took the court the last few days was worse than the crap that LeBron dragged to the Finals in 2007. And it's not just that they lost. It's how they lost - blowing an extremely winnable game 4 several times over, getting bombed in 5, making it close and then crapping themselves, then not showing up at all for game 6. It's them allowing Cleveland to go on a 16 point run with LeBron on the bench.

The sad part is that we finally got Rose healthy. And he played pretty well, with the exception of last night when nobody on the Bulls cared. Sure, Gasol tapped out, but everybody else was there. They were a more talented team than Cleveland in this series, and then lost in 6. The current version of the Bulls will never have a better shot than this. The absolute ceiling for Rose from here on out is a younger Dwayne Wade with worse defense. Gasol turned into a pumpkin come playoff time, and that's more in line with what he was and will be the rest of his contract. And Cleveland will only get better and healthier.

So it's not completely that I think Thibs should be fired, it's the idea that it's over no matter what. Burn this crap to the ground. Get rid of Thibs, because it's clear that his shtick hasn't worked and can't work here. Noah probably doesn't have that much value left since he's been beaten into the ground so many years, but they should trade him if they get anything worthwhile (which doesn't seem to happen in NBA trades). Trade Taj. Trade anyone you can except for maybe Butler. Keep Rose (because nobody would take him) and let him savor this rotting carcass until his next knee injury, at which point they can buy him out and pay him to go away.

I can't decide if I arrived here at the same time as the Bulls, or two days early. Depends on if you count the first quarter as competing.

The Bulls can't beat LeBron. They had a great chance to strike him down this year and now I fear he might become more powerful than we could possibly imagine.

My conspiracy theorizing just took a hit.
