leopard88
http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/12833542/wells-report-finds-new-england-patriots-probably-deflated-balls"For the reasons described in this Report, and after a comprehensive investigation, we have concluded that, in connection with the AFC Championship Game, it is more probable than not that New England Patriots personnel participated in violations of the Playing Rules and were involved in a deliberate effort to circumvent the rules," the report said. "In particular, we have concluded that it is more probable than not that Jim McNally (the Officials Locker Room attendant for the Patriots) and John Jastremski (an equipment assistant for the Patriots) participated in a deliberate effort to release air from Patriots game balls after the balls were examined by the referee. Based on the evidence, it also is our view that it is more probable than not that Tom Brady (the quarterback for the Patriots) was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of McNally and Jastremski involving the release of air from Patriots game balls. Still MIGHTY
Wording in NFL's official report on Deflategate is just as firm as the Patriots footballs. Patriots "more probable than not" violated rules. Tom Brady "at least generally aware" of the deflation.Whatever, man. | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |
leopard88
"More probable than not" = "Preponderance of the evidence". That's enough for liability in a civil suit. logoman
What a croc. What kind of vague, useless language is this? "More probable than not"? Oh, yeah, I forgot - he may or may not have been wearing a hat.
RockyTopper
The language in the report is far from sharply incriminating. In fact, it's so vague that it sounds like just a bunch of hot air. Seriously, though. What weird wording. It's not blunt or direct enough to call it any sort of Earth-shattering news. ☦ICXC NIKA
Seadragon76
So, basically in layman terms: The Pats did deflate the balls and Tom Terrific knew about it.What does the NFL do about it: Tom Terrific gets a simple slap on the wrist because he's the Golden Boy and all. The two others? Ran out of the league.
RockyTopper
They'll probably slap a big fine or other penalty on the Pats organization. I don't know if they'd punish individuals if a big number of personnel within the organization took part in this thing. ☦ICXC NIKA

leopard88
From Fox Sports --http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfl-finds-patriots-employees-probably-deflated-balls/ar-BBji1lsThe report includes text messages between McNally and Jastremski -- sent in October and January -- that imply Brady was requesting footballs deflated below 12.5 pounds per square inch. They described requests from McNally for shoes and signed footballs from Brady in exchange for deflating the balls. The texts imply that Brady had previously been upset with the quality of the game balls. bosrs1
More like 2 ball guys, who by their texts seem like some real geniuses, were probably busted (ie: 50.01% chance). There appears to be little if any evidence the Patriots organization or Tom Brady did anything wrong. From Fox Sports --http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfl-finds-patriots-employees-probably-deflated-balls/ar-BBji1lsThe report includes text messages between McNally and Jastremski -- sent in October and January -- that imply Brady was requesting footballs deflated below 12.5 pounds per square inch. Just that Brady didn't like the 16 PSI balls he'd been forced to play with in one game (balls that I'd add are above the maximum allowable). JayJaxon
The only thing I get from this report is that the NFL had no intention of punishing the organization. This investigation took place because they needed to be able to say they conducted an investigation.
Dexter Morgan
The evidence in the report is stronger than the language. It's lawyer talk from an independent source not the NFL itself, but now the NFL will have to carry out the punishments. It's a load of crock if Brady isn't suspended at least a few games and the team fined/draft picks taken away. It must be harsher than SpyGate punishment. I see cookies missing.Officer: I see the store door open after hours. I see you with a new book. But I didn't see you steal it, therefore, I might think you stole it, I don't know that you did.But in all truth, if the NFL wasn't such a big moneymaker for gambling - Vegas, Fantasy, other - would this be made into such a big deal? Would people really care that much? And as for "integrity", aren't PEDs just another form of "cheating" too? Oh what could have been....

IceCap
Does any of this negate the fact that the Pats steamrolled the Colts in that game? That's why I just can't get up in arms about this. It's not like the game was close. A properly inflated football wouldn't have made the Colts run defence any more effective. The Pats, like it or not, deserved to win that game.
