Hats MLB teams keep around for the fans to buy

I like them.

Rockies purple cap

A's black caps

Royals powder blue caps

I see those in rotation at hat stores too. Some of them might still be in style guides but haven't been worn in a long time. Some are no longer part of the style guide but still around because of excess inventory or possibly just popularity

Go A's!

I was able to get a powder blue Royals cap for $5 (I bought 3) last season. It was my first trip to the "K" (fantastic stadium, btw). It was fairly early in the season, and the World Series fever hadn't happened yet, so they had literally hundreds in boxes.

I wouldn't mind getting some of the retired caps that aren't in back-stock, but I hate how New Era puts their logo on the side of them now.

What do you guys think of MLB teams that have on field hats they don't wear anymore, but keep around for the fans to buy?

Such as the Marlins orange hat (tragic), the reds black hat, the Red Sox hanging sox hat, etc.

Before they brought it back three years ago, the Orioles had tons of cartoon bird hats for sale. Took them long enough to recognize that all of their fans were wearing that instead of the full bird caps.

Do they really need to have these hats "listed," though? I go to a hat store and see Twins hats in every color imaginable. If the Marlins don't want to wear an orange hat, can't they still sell it as a "fashion cap" rather than making it official and not wearing it? Do fans that buy hats that a team does not wear really know or care if it's official?

I guess I did not even know that some of these hats are "officially" "on-field," e.g, "hanging sox" or black Reds hat. But I cannot imagine that status really sells a lot of caps.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

The fact that the *Marlins orange hat and Rockies purple hat aren't worn on the field anymore is a shame.

I also always liked this Mets hat even if it was BFBS

*I still think the Marlins logo is awful and is too big on the hats for no reason, but the orange hat/jersey is the only part of their new identity I like.

For the longest time at the A's team store, they would sell the black cap from the early 2000s even though they hadn't worn it in over a decade. Still a very popular cap among fans

Which is so weird to me. I never liked the black one (or green bill). I always thought that their best cap was their home, and that they should wear it home/road/alt/sunday/wednesday/etc. That cap is perfect.

But then again, if A's fans like the black one, that's all that really matters.

Well, given they tweaked the red jersey's script so it's dotted with stars and there's no tomahawk underneath it anymore, about the only jerseys they could pair the tomahawk A cap with...are the whites and grays, which I figure it would never have been paired with.

The Braves hat with the tomahawk in the A which was originally paired with the original red jersey, is the first that comes to mind.

They stopped wearing those ? that was a stupid move
They got rid of the regular red Sunday alts turned Friday alts in favor of the military appreciation jersey. To the best of my knowledge they have not wore the hat since early 2014.
