MLB Uniform Adjustments and Concepts

Hey everyone,

This is my first submission of any type of concept, so bear with me as I learn the ropes and look to hopefully get better at this. As a St. Louisan, naturally my favorite sport is baseball, so I thought I would start off with the current MLB uniforms and modify them in places where I felt that they needed adjustment. Using the Wikipedia baseball jersey template, I tried to keep all the jerseys as close to the way they look as possible and if anything enhance them or remove elements that I felt weren't necessary or I just didn't like. Also I included BP jerseys with each of the uniform sets, as well as a few throwback uni's. As an added touch, I've given all the teams traditional style stirrup socks and I've cleaned up the colors on the shoes a little bit too.

I will be starting off with the National League and will submit each team one at a time alphabetically. I appreciate your compliments and I'm open to any advice or constructive criticism. Please note that I'm entitled to my opinions as you are to yours, so please don't take offense at any of my thoughts or reasons for doing work on a particular team's jersey. That's just what I think and you don't have to agree with it. Anyway, here goes nothin'.

Arizona Diamondbacks

First off let me say that I never have liked the "D-backs" lettering on the current Arizona home jerseys. To me it just doesn't look like an MLB jersey. However I've always loved the southwestern style "A" made to look like a snake head. Taking that logo and basing the jerseys off the design of the 90's D-backs jerseys, I made a modern version of them with just the "A" logo at home and on the alternate red jersey. The road jersey is pretty much left unchanged, as well as the black alternate and the BP jersey is basically the same as the red alternate, just without the sleeve cuff stripes and a two-tone colored hat.

I actually can see the image. It looks pretty good to me, it would look even better with a good template (Wikipedia templates are always pretty low quality). I think that I would like to see the D logo a little bit more than just on the home caps. Overall good job, most newbies with Wikipedia templates have pretty bad concepts, but I like what you did here.

I just found it to be the easiest to work with as far as painting, cut & pasting, and I like how Wikipedia has their's laid out where all the jerseys are on one image lined up in a row right next to each other. (Even though some are overlapped) I wasn't aware of any of the templates here until after I did my work, so I might go back after I get everybody's input on everything and re-do them.

Honestly in my opinion, I think the D-Backs look better with their purple, teal, and black scheme that they had when they first originated.

I completely agree. Use the modern updated logos, but bring back the purple teal color scheme. It really worked for them and it was fairly unique. I don't understand why they felt the need to switch it up to the red and off gold.

I think the whole idea for changing the colors to brick red was to make a more southwestern looking theme. (Either that or they just wanted to match the Coyotes and AZ Cardinals jerseys.) Now that I think about it I may add a purple and teal throwback jersey to the set.

They have been doing a "throwback Thursday" uniform where they wear the white pinstriped sleeveless shirts with the purple undershirts like they wore for the World Series victory against the Yankees. The fans are very supportive of these and are looking to make those uniforms the primary again. There seems to be a lot of support for that.

Atlanta Braves

For the Braves, I left the home and road uniforms alone because I didn't think there was anything at all that needed to be done with them. Not to be unpatriotic, but I just don't really like the Braves stars & stripes alternate red jersey, so I modified it by changing the color of the script lettering to white so it would standout better and returned the tomahawk below the lettering. I also changed the color order of the piping and sleeve trim to match that of the script. I dropped the blue alternate jersey because I just didn't like it either, plus I don't get the blue on blue script and numbers. I also dropped the cream white throwback jersey because I thought it didn't really look that much different than the modern jersey. Instead, I replaced it with the blue sleeved 70's jersey as a throwback. I tried to draw the feather on the sleeves as best I could, but it's kinda hard in MS Paint. As far as the hats go, I always thought that the blue hat with the red bill looks so much better than the solid blue one so I put it on both jerseys and made a red hat with a blue bill for the red alternate, as well as giving the throwback jersey the appropriate blue hat with lowercase "a" on a white background. The BP jersey I left pretty much the same, only I dropped the tomahawk as I don't feel the BP jersey really needs it.

Chicago Cubs

What can I say about my hated rivals the Cubs? Only that I respect the fact that like the Cardinals, they know how to keep a good tradition going and that's why I left their regular home and road uniforms exactly as they are. However, I never have liked their alternate blue jersey but taking the same concept, I converted it into their BP jersey and gave the cap a 90's treatment with a blue top and red bill. I dropped the away throwback jersey as it just seems a little dull to me.

Where did you find the template

From Wikipedia. Just search any MLB team and it'll have a drawing of the current jerseys. Save any of them and they're real easy to repaint, cut and paste, or whatever.

For the Braves I might try to change the neck piping to blue as it looks a bit cluttered with red piping and red word mark. I'd also try an away blue Atlanta alternate.

I take it you're referring to the regular home jersey? Like I said, I left them alone because I didn't think there was anything that needed to be done with them, however I think that the lettering doesn't show up as clearly as it could with the Wikipedia template. Also, I'm thinking now of possibly re-doing their blue alternate jerseys as I just don't care for the ones they already use now.

I know, but like I said in an earlier post, I did all these before I knew there were better templates out there and I'm just getting feedback for now, but I'll definitely be re-doing everything eventually.
