Islanders concept logo badly needs C&C

This is my attempt at a concept for the Islanders. I was trying to modernize their old lighthouse logo, but I'm unsure what to add to it or how I should revise it. Maybe they could use this as a patch. I don't know where I want to go with this yet. Advice/C&C is very helpful. Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for the C&C.

Not a bad start at all. I agree that grey is obtrusive. Maybe lighten it or replace with white. Rays from the Lighthouse could also stand to be cleaned up a bit but this is really solid overall. Nice work!

i like the idea, but the grey seems a little unnecessary. The grey makes the light house look dark, which is the opposite of what the name suggest. i would drop that color and see how it looks with just white.

Hmm. OK I'll take out the gray and put in some white there and see what happens.

Yeah, I'll work on that. I'm in a bit of a rush right now, but I think I'll have a bit of time to fix these things tomorrow.

Thanks to both of you guys for the C&C!

As the commenters above said, remove the grey. I'd make it white. I honestly think that the original lighthouse was one of the best NHL logos of all time. The Gorton's Fisherman was horrible. If you're going to renovate a logo, do the fisherman. Every other Isles logo has been spot on.

Great start here!

I would taper the gray lining in the waves as it moves out to the circle -- would give it more of an "in-motion" feel.

I would also suggest bringing some symmetry to the rays of the lighthouse (i.e. evenly distributed and similar angles on both sides)

OK, i guess I'll take a stab at the fisherman logo after this.

A couple of things:

1: Replace grey with white.

2: The teal wave seems a little awkward. Make the lines more parallel to give it a thinner look.

Do you want me to make the wave thinner? I can do that.

I see what you're saying. The one ray is a lot shorter than the other. I'll try to fix that.

Can I ask what you mean by tapering the lining? Do you want less of it as the wave goes into the circle or more of it?

Here's what I came up with based on what you all said. I replaced gray with white I tried also to make the rays of light more symmetrical. I tried to make the waves a little more in motion, but it still needs a little work. Tell me what you think.

EDIT: Here's a version of it without any teal.

Which version do you like better?

I like the teal-less version better, but maybe that's because I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Isles logos. I feel like the lighthouse itself should have more stripes than just the one. Maybe four smaller stripes, for the four Stanley Cups? Other than that, it's looking ok!

The rounded ends on those lines are giving some weird points of tension when they come up close to the roundel. I'd suggest not using a line tool--I'm assuming you're using a line tool with a round end--and instead actually draw the outline of the "line" shape. This will give you more flexibility in how you shape the "line."

So what you're saying is to make a separate layer and then draw (using the "paintbrush" tool, I guess) to draw around the shape of the line I've just made. Then make the layer with the original lines invisible. Is that right? Seriously, I'd like to know because it seems like it would help, but I just don't think I get what you're saying. I'm using Paint.Net for this btw.

Should I make the waves not touch the circle? Like this?

This is a step in the right direction but posting the original Lighthouse logo proves that this concept needs some work. Don't get me wrong it's solid, but its not an improvement over the original. That being said, I definitely prefer the version with the Teal.

I'm working on making the light house more detailed and with 4 stripes. If you like the teal, I'll make two versions for it. With teal and without it. The other thing I want to tweak is the rays from the lighthouse. I want them to include blue but I want to make them like the ones in the logo above. I should have it posted by tomorrow.

I like it with teal. It seperates the Islanders from other teams like the Oilers. I think you're up to a good start, but it definetly needs some work. Maybe modernize it more.

Favorites: Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, New York Rangers, New York Knicks, Cam Newton ND Irish

Least Favorites: New York Giants, New York Mets, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Eagles, OBJ

Anything specific things to modernize? Or just the whole thing in general?
