JayMac
As a Seahawks fan, I cannot understand this extension. He is an above average QB. Granted, he does make big plays but those plays don't justify making near what Rodgers makes. With Chancellor holding out, this deal makes even less sense. The secondary won't ever be bad as long as Thomas and Sherman are back there but the other CB and safety position may become a revolving door. DG_ThenNowForever
Quarterback continues to be the most important NFL position, especially now that there are like ten good ones in the league. Teams are saving on RBs these days (with the exception of Seattle, natch), so they have even more to throw at QBs. This day was coming for Seattle. They had three good years of minimum wage Russell Wilson and they made the most out of them. Now they enter the next phase of seeing whether they can continue to luck out in the draft and get guys in their primes for not much. Given the money they've thrown out for Sherman, Thomas, Wilson, and soon for Wagner and Chancellor, things may change. On the other hand, they made two Super Bowls without a receiving corps, so I guess anything is possible. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
dfwabel
Russell Wilson extension $87.6 mil. Just shy of highest paid, averaging $21.9m yearly behind only Rodgers` $22m. Wilson of course says it`s nothing to do with him, he just wanted the next QB`s to have a higher base to start from negotiations. There goes the Seahawks hopes of being a dynasty. RW is good but not 2nd highest payed player in the league good. And the higher base to start for negation thing is crap, franchise qb salaries have been consistently in the 20 million dollar range for over 5 years now, this deal doesn't change that. Miami signed Suh and gave Ryan Tannehilla 6 year, $96 million extension, with $21.5 million guaranteed and you said nothing and Wilson has made the playoffs every year and the Super Bowl twice. The only difference is the Dolphins were never going to even make the playoffs before and those deals don't change it.

He has more then justified the need to give him a big time pay raise. It's either this or risk the chance of either slapping a franchise tag on him or, worst, he leaves town and takes his talents elsewhere. Same with Chancellor... getting him the money now saves the potential headache down the road.
FiddySicks
Hawks are kind of in a catch 22 here. There is absolutely no way that Russell Wilson should be paid nearly as much as the top QBs in the league. He's nowhere near that elite category that Brady, Luck, Manning, and Rodgers are. But at the same time, they pretty much have to pay him that due to his track record. Wilson is pretty much the ultimate definition of being thrust into the perfect situation. Most NFL caliber quarterbacks should be able to thrive in a situation as good as he has it in Seattle. But despite that, he STILL made the most out of it and capitalized when he needed to. It's a deal that I can't see the Seahawks NOT regretting. But, they won two conference titles and a Super Bowl while paying him like a substitute teacher, so it all balances out.
