Michigan to Jordan Brand

Agreed. Dumb as hell to use a basketball brand to generate excitement for a prestigious football brand.

Won't be dumb when all the top recruits come to Michigan for exclusive Jordans

The recruits would be the dumb ones. Besides - what's the point of having "exclusive" anything when the other 100 players on the team have them?

Because the other 6,000 or so P5 players don't have them.

They're wearing all white on the road this year.

Dawg this is in 2016 on, when they switch

I know, don't you think it's likely that Harbaugh will continue with white on white next year if that is his preference this year? Sure, it's not set in stone from year to year but Harbaugh seems like a coach set in his ways.

I suppose in the end I'm not too surprised by this move. I get the recruiting perk but it's not like Nike ever intended to just to slap a swoosh on their gear and call it a day.

Something tells me this was already in the works to happen with one of Nike's top football clients and when they landed Michigan the opportunity was just too big for them to pass up. It's a bold move that I'm sure will garner a lot of attention, but it's still strange to me that they'd want to propel their specialized basketball brand across sports in place of the mother brand.

I swapped the Nike logos from my previous concept for the Jumpman. If I can find the right angle of picture to use, I'll add some Jordan cleats. :)

I get dizzy looking at this. It feels wrong, like apparel done in rivals' colors or "one sport as another sport" concepts.

I actually really like this move. It's a bit strange, yes. But it's kind of a big step for the Jordan brand, and i think the brand is already well known enough to really make this a smart move in the long run.

And, already been stated here, the intreague of those exclusive Jordans and other gear like that could be enough to push guys who are on the fence with several big name schools towards Michigan. NEVER underestimate a college student and their shoe game!

So being able to get a shoe that a football player in California that they'll never meet can't get is enough to influence someone's college decision? If so then those players are just stupid - even for college football players.

So much overreaction

Par for the course here.

I don't fault a business man expanding his brand and market. Well done, Michael.

The Jumpman logo will look odd but it's a silouette of one of the greatest athletes of all time, so I doubt any football player is going to be ashamed of wearing it. Maybe he'll turn it into a player making a football catch in the Jordan pose. But, he shouldn't have to, he's Michael Jordan.

Randy Moss is actually wearing Jordan Football cleats in the picture.

@1991: Derek Jeter wore Jordan brand stuff pretty much from 2000 til he retired.

Would some of you guys feel better about all of this if Jordan Brand had a non-basketball alternate logo for "other sports" gear/uniforms? I personally don't care about the Jumpman logo on a football uniform, but fully understand why others would.

Yeah, that Randy Moss pic would actually be a perfect reference point since Moss repped Jordan Brand and the pose is very similar to the Jumpman.

Not to nitpick, while Moss did wear Jordan Football cleats for most of his career, in this picture he's wearing the Nike Superbad II TD cleat.

I know Jordan brand originated as an exclusively-basketball brand, but it has grown tremendously.. I have no issue whatsoever with the jumpman logo being used for any sport.. It's just the logo of the brand.. They've been making gear for other sports for years, so it's been a LONG time since they were exclusively basketball.. Just like under armour started as only undershirts, and they've grown and expanded to other avenues, but no one nitpicks their brand name just because it refers to "under" armour, and not over armour or outer armour.. I'm actually a fan of the Jordan brand and jumpman logo, regardless of the inherent basketball-nd

Just to make sure we are clear here jordan brand is nothing more than a secondary brand that nike markets to sell premium product above and beyond the nike label. Sure they may have a stand alone marketing team and designers but they are undeniably under the nike umbrella in terms of funding, strategy, r&d, supply chain, sales/distribution etc. This is a nike decision to experiment with bringing in a new design influence into their over saturated college market. They already entered the market about a decade ago and have been making player exclusive jordan cleats for at least that long.

If you're looking for more autonomous divisions of nike you should be thinking converse or hurley. And MJ ain't doing much but cashing checks these days.

Many companies start out specializing in one thing. It's not really a big deal Jordan is branching beyond basketball for jerseys. They've made cleats for years. Moss was wearing them 15 years ago.

Exactly. Jeters been wearing jordan for years as well. The logo never looked weird to me. It's a really nice logo and will look better than the busy adidas logo. Idk why everyone's freaking out.

Another thing that irritates me, that as a (albeit casual) Pistons fan, I sorta hate Michael Jordan. Now all the official merchandise of my favorite college will bear his mark or his name? That's not ideal.
