Major League Lacrosse or Lacrosse in general

I found out about Lacrosse about mid season 2014 of MLL. I've since became a fan of the league and the New York Lizards (2015 champs!!)

I decided to make this topic page since there isn't a good lacrosse page on this website

So I wanted to start this off with 2 topics

1 with the recent news of the Atlanta Blaze expansion, what city will also get a team? I think it will be either Philly, Toronto/Hamilton, or LA. I don't believe that Houston or a Texas team will get a team this early

2 since last year I missed the draft, I can't wait for the 2016 MLL draft, but I don't watch NCAA lacrosse much besides the NCAA championship. But I wanted to know what some of the top prospects are (I know there's Burnluhr, Jones or something, Rambo, and that's really all I remember) tho I know that the Lizards won't get any 1st or 2nd rounders for like 3 years ???

Houston's been getting most of the speculation lately but I'm not really feeling them either.

I have noticed that all of the remaining expansion candidates you listed now have soccer-specific MLS stadiums which would be the ideal type of venue for an MLL team to operate as well. Are any of the MLL expansion bids coming from groups affiliated with the local MLS clubs? Those might have the inside track.

I didn't notice that those cities I mentioned had MLS stadiums before. (Tho Philly would prob play at the Linc like NCAA did for awhile). And I'm not sure about what groups r bidding on MLL clubs, MLL seems to be more quiet with their expansion rumors unlike MLS or NHL, tho they did once talk about the investors for Houston and they were just random guys. And the Toronto/Hamilton used to have a team before 2014 then they took a leave of absence to build a stadium, it was completed last year so idk if they could still use that (but all of their players went to Florida or other teams)

Also I realized that I didn't add Baltimore or Hartford to my lists even tho i doubt it those cities have either had a team their or near, and both have top colleges near them

True, but with most sports having a DC team and a Baltimore team I considered the possibility (tho I know BayHawks r Annapolis)

I'm surprised that MLS teams with grass fields would share their stadium with another team around the same time of year. At least the MLS teams that have their own stadiums. Special events every now and then are one thing, but having another team play a regular home schedule seems like a bad idea for the MLS team. While I agree that MLL would be better off playing in the smaller MLS stadiums (than NFL or College FB stadiums), I'm just surprised any MLS team would be okay with it. Guess it's hard to say no to extra money coming in though.

Yes, I also doubt that any MLS teams would want another sports team playing with them (since they hate the idea of a team sharing an NFL stadium) the only city that that would even happen would be Seattle (and technically Boston) since they play at a NFL stadium.

I can't wait for the expansion draft, anybody know when it happens?

What stadium is that?

When the Nationals were in Toronto I went to a few games at BMO. Even with a championship team they couldn't draw. I wouldn't be surprised if they averaged under 1,000/game. Not sure how the numbers were in Hamilton but Ron Joyce Stadium seasts 6,000 and that seemed like a nice a spot for the team to me.

I'm not sure of the field, I think it might've been where the Auloettes or some other Canadian team plays

That's in Montreal. about 6 hours away from the Toronto area and that stadium was renovated in 2010. So I don't think that's it.

Maybe you are thinking of tim Horton's Field? That's where the Hamilton Ti-cats play. That stadium was rebuilt and opened last year.

Maybe the Nationals got kicked out of Ron Joyce when the Ti-Cats played there as their stadium was being rebuilt?

Interesting.......I'd love to see an MLL team back in the Toronto area.

Sorry for the wait.

The Atlanta Blaze expansion draft is over! I am so mad that Walsh got picked, but at least he will get a starting job.

The Commish said his plan for the league is in 2017 1 new team will be added, 2018 2 new teams. Then with 12 teams they can expand playoffs and hopefully 20 regular season games, and starting getting better addvirtisments. 2020 another 2 teams. And 2022 another 2. Thus embarking on 16 teams. He said the cities they r looking at are. Houston, Dallas, Southern LA, San Jose. Portland, and Seattle. Those are all in the west and none of those states has strong NCAA teams, (most don't even have a DI team) Houston is their top priority along with Dallas. Now I doubt they will go to Houston after 2 years of exparementing (see Florida) if they expand next eye at I would see a eastern team,I would like bringing back a proven team like Philadelphia Barrage (see 3 championships) or even Canada (Canada's national sport is Lacrosse and Hockey) or unlikely it could be Chicago. And possible to help traveling costs Tampa as a travel buddy wth Florida.

What r your thoughts on the new regular season system with the 2 game weekend ?

The MLL Collegiate draft is 2 months away who will go first? And will Atlanta trade their pick like the other teams

And who do you think will be in e MLL Championship game XVI?

All right, let me clear things up.

Nationals franchise went dormant, and all the players moved to Florida (classified as an expansion team). It was expected that we would get a team back when Tim Hortons Field was completed, but that came and went. About a year ago, we found out that the franchise had been considered extinct.

I wrote more about it here: http://www.thespec.com/sports-story/4229026-lacrosse-nationals-moving-south/

Fan support was slowly but consistently growing as well. It really is a shame, because Florida is drawing the same amount of fans. I'd be the first person there if we got a team back.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

I live in Florida and I hate watching the Launch games because they never have many fans. But with the Thompson's Powell, and McArdle they r a promising team. The Toronto/Hamilton area would be favorable for the league I think

You can create a seperate NLL thread I personally don't follow the NLL (if I did go Mammoths) so I dint know anything about it

Should we have a separate NLL thread, or is this the catchall lax thread? Just asking. The NLL's 2016 season begins in January. Go Rock Go!

Thanks for clearing that up! I really hope a team does comes back to Hamilton.
